MSNBC's Hayes Lauds Obama's 'History-Making' Abortion Speech, Laments Word 'Abortion' Not Used

By Brad Wilmouth | April 29, 2013 | 17:46

A  A

On Friday's All In show on MSNBC, host Chris Hayes not only praised President Obama for being the first sitting President to speak to Planned Parenthood in the group's history, but he also seemed to lament the fact that pro-choice Democrats are not confident enough to actually use the word "abortion" more openly, as he noted that the President avoided the word during his speech.

The MSNBC host asserted that the President "made history" as he plugged the segement before a commercial break: "President Obama made history today doing something that took 97 years for a President to do. That's coming up."

Dem Convention Won't be Mom-friendly, Feminists Charge; 'War on Women'-Obsessed MSNBC Thus Far Has Ignored Story

By Ken Shepherd | August 22, 2012 | 15:39

A  A

"A number of local chapters of the National Organization for Women are denouncing the DNC convention rules, saying that they unfairly exclude mothers with young children," Byron Tau of Politico reported on Monday morning, going on to quote feminist icon Gloria Steinem as complaining that "Women are the key to a Democratic victory, and sometimes, children are the key to women. It's both right and smart for the Democratic Convention to behave as if children exist."

Given their penchant for frequently featuring Politico reporters and for hyping the so-called war on women, it would be reasonable for MSNBC to pick up on the story. But alas, they have not, even though National Organization for Women president Terry O'Neill appeared on the Monday edition of the Ed Show and on today's MSNBC Live hosted by Thomas Roberts to discuss the Akin controversy.

NOW Prez: Ann Romney Lacks 'Life Experience' And 'Imagination'

By Mark Finkelstein | April 12, 2012 | 21:36

A  A

Back up the bus!  After bouncing Hilary Rosen beneath the Greyhound, President Obama and friends might have to throw it in reverse again over the person of key Dem coalition member Terry O'Neill.  The NOW president suggested to Ed Schultz tonight that Ann Romney, along with Mitt, lacks "life experience" and "imagination" needed to understand most Americans.

For good measure, in the very same segment Dem congresswoman Maxine Waters called the Republican candidate for president Mitt "Rot-ney."  Classy bunch! View the video after the jump.

NOW Yowls at 'Violently Anti-Woman' Catholic Bishops

By Tim Graham | February 23, 2011 | 23:41

A  A

The National Organization for Women issued a statement from president Terry O'Neill Wednesday with a clearly anti-religion message. The headline: "U.S. Catholic Bishops Major Force Behind War on Women." It began:

The collusion of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has led to an open declaration of war on the women of this country. The bishops have long sought to enshrine into law those policies of the Catholic Church that subordinate women. And they don't care how badly women get hurt in the process.

NOW Blames Shooting on 'Extreme' Conservatives Opposing 'Progressive Solutions'

By Tim Graham | January 09, 2011 | 08:56

A  A

Count National Organization for Women president Terry O'Neill as one leftist who will quickly and easily blame the horrific shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others on Saturday on GOP Members of Congress, and still unproven Tea Party racial slurs yelled at Rep. John Lewis and the withdrawn claims of Rep. Emanuel Cleaver that he was spat upon purposely. O'Neill's press statement began by blaming Sarah Palin:

NOW condemns the tragic shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) that stole six lives and seriously injured 12 today. We condemn, equally, the culture of hate and violence increasingly reflected in extreme right-wing opponents of those who support progressive solutions to our country's challenges.

Rep. Giffords, whose office was vandalized after she voted for the federal health care reform law last year, was also named on Sarah Palin's "Targeted" list. Giffords (who has been consistently endorsed by NOW's PAC) herself understood the not-so-well veiled threat, stating "the thing is that the way she [Palin] has it depicted, we're in the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they've got to realize that there are consequences to that action."
