The Horror: NYT's Timothy Egan Forced to Watch Fox News

By Clay Waters | June 15, 2012 | 13:09

A  A

I only am escaped alone to tell thee: Timothy Egan, a liberal reporter turned columnist for the New York Times, was forced to watch Fox News at the gym and lived to tell his readers about the horror in a Thursday post at nytimes.com, "The Clown and the Cop."

Trapped with a Fox News big screen in my stable of fellow trotters at the gym a few weeks ago, I took in the worldview that may give the White House to Republicans this year. After burning 400 calories, I was ready to torch the capital.

CEI's Hans Bader Dissects Rex Nutting's Fatally-flawed Analysis of Obama Spending

By Ken Shepherd | May 29, 2012 | 11:59

A  A

As we at NewsBusters have noted, the liberal media have done little to discredit Rex Nutting's erroneous analysis of federal spending under President Obama. Numerous conservative and libertarian critics have pointed out how fatally flawed Nutting's analysis, but we'd like to recommend Hans Bader's post at Competitive Enterprise Institute's OpenMarket.org website, who takes on not only Nutting but left-wing Forbes columnist Rick "the House GOP are hostage-taking Nazis" Ungar, another disingenuous journalist, and one who has the benefit of an affiliation with a magazine published by a famous conservative.

You can read the full May 25 post here, but here's just a taste:

Media Mostly Mum on Outrageous Obama Claim of Fiscal Restraint

By Scott Whitlock | May 25, 2012 | 12:33

A  A

White House spokesman Jay Carney on Wednesday lectured journalists to not believe the "BS" that Barack Obama is a reckless spender. Rather than investigate Carney's assertions, or the sketchy basis for them, reporters have either embraced the talking points or allowed them to go unchallenged.

Chris Matthews on Wednesday repeated the "fact" that federal spending "is rising at the slowest rate" in 60 years. The network evening and morning shows have failed to investigate this highly questionable assertion from MarketWatch's Rex Nutting. The Washington Post, however, gave this claim "three Pinocchios" and chided Carney, "The data in the article are flawed, and the analysis lacks context."

Coulter Column: Figures Don't Lie, Democrats and Hack Journalists Do

By Ann Coulter | May 24, 2012 | 17:48

A  A

It's been breaking news all over MSNBC, liberal blogs, newspapers and even The Wall Street Journal: "Federal spending under Obama at historic lows ... It's clear that Obama has been the most fiscally moderate president we've had in 60 years." There's even a chart!

I'll pause here to give you a moment to mop up the coffee on your keyboard. Good? OK, moving on.

White House and MSNBC Cite Bogus Report Claiming 'Obama Spending Binge Never Happened'

By Noel Sheppard | May 24, 2012 | 10:47

A  A

A bogus report published by MarketWatch Tuesday claiming "under Obama, federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s" has been all the rage at the White House and MSNBC.

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter correctly observed Wednesday:
