MSNBC Complains Boy Scout Move Didn't Go ‘Far Enough’

By Jeffrey Meyer | May 24, 2013 | 15:00

A  A

MSNBC’s openly gay daytime host Thomas Roberts has almost daily segments promoting the network’s pro-gay agenda. Over the past several months, one of Roberts’ pet projects has been opposing a long-standing policy by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) prohibiting openly gay individuals from being members of or leaders in the organizations.

On May 23, the BSA voted to allow openly gay individuals to join troops as of next year, but gay adults would still not be allowed to lead a troop. As a result, on Thursday May 24, Roberts opened his 11:00 a.m. show with the on-screen graphic “Far Enough?” to express his displeasure with the BSA’s decision. Rather than leave it posed as a question, Roberts made pretty clear his view that indeed it didn't go "far enough."

After Praising Gay NBA Player as 'Towering Figure,' NBC Dismisses Tebow as 'Spoof-Worthy' And 'Lackluster'

By Kyle Drennen | April 30, 2013 | 17:24

A  A

While Tuesday's NBC Today began by heralding gay NBA player Jason Collins as "a towering figure on the court" and in "sports history," later in the 7 a.m. ET hour, correspondent Craig Melvin regarded NFL quarterback Tim Tebow as an athlete who's "play never really matched the hype" and someone who became "spoof-worthy" due to his "well-publicized faith."

A clip played of Late Night host Jimmy Fallon mocking Tebow with a parody song set to David Bowie's "Ground Control to Major Tom": "Tim Tebow to Jesus Christ." Melvin followed: "On the field, Tebow struggled. His only season as a Jet, lackluster....His football future is uncertain. But Tebow could still cash-in on his carefully cultivated persona."

Andrea Mitchell: Obama and Netanyahu Have 'One of the Worst Relationships I Can Remember'

By Noel Sheppard | March 20, 2013 | 16:14

A  A

Brace yourselves, for NBC's Andrea Mitchell - on MSNBC no less - actually criticized Barack Obama Wednesday.

During a News Nation segment about the President's trip to Israel, Mitchell said his relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "one of the worst" she can remember going all the way back to her years covering Ronald Reagan (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Politico’s Roger Simon: CPAC Is The ‘Militant Wing’ Of The Republican Party

By Jeffrey Meyer | March 14, 2013 | 16:13

A  A

Nothing is more amusing than having a liberal “columnist” comment on the state of the conservative movement.  It seems as though Politico’s Roger Simon is one such liberal who feels it is his duty to trash conservatism on a regular basis.

Speaking with MSNBC’s Craig Melvin on March 14, Simon commented that CPAC is “the militant wing of the Republican Party.”  Simon, who criticizes conservatives on a regular basis believes that the majority of speakers at CPAC are “on the extremes of American politics.”  [See video after jump.  MP3 audio here.]

NBC's Today Pretending That Libya Consulate Attack Isn't News Anymore

By Matthew Balan | October 08, 2012 | 17:08

A  A

The 2007 video of then-Senator Barack Obama hinting at racism in the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina isn't the only news story that NBC's Today show stuck up its nose at during the first days of October. The morning newscast has conspicuously ignored covering the latest developments in the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. It hasn't devoted a full segment or even a news brief to the issue since September 29.

As Today devoted air time to how Mitt Romney's debate performance was supposedly "completely overshadowed" by "hunting" Big Bird, ABC's Good Morning America and CBS This Morning devoted full reports on Monday to a former security official's charge that the State Department ignored repeated requests for extra security at the diplomatic facility in Libya.

NBC Profiles Mia Love's 'Historic' Run for Congress in Utah

By Brad Wilmouth | July 04, 2012 | 12:39

A  A

Wednesday's Today show on NBC ran a four and a half minute piece profiling Saratoga Springs, Utah, Mayor, and congressional candidate Mia Love, who has a very good chance of being the first black female Republican elected to Congress.

MSNBC's Daily Rundown show on Tuesday ran a similar report on the Utah Republican.

On the July 4 Today, guest co-anchor Willie Geist introduced the report:

While Trying to Smear House GOP as Racist, MSNBC Mixes Up Rep. Jesse Jackson With Rev. Jesse Jackson

By Kyle Drennen | May 18, 2012 | 16:29

A  A

In the midst of fill-in host Craig Melvin hyping accusations that black lawmakers were "being unfairly targeted for ethics investigations" by the Republican-led House Ethics Committee during Firday's News Nation on MSNBC, the channel's graphics department mistakenly displayed an image on screen of the Reverend Jesse Jackson senior, instead of his son, Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Melvin touted Democratic Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver "now calling for members...of the House ethics panel to temporarily step aside." He continued: "The Congressman writing a letter saying in part, quote, 'I write to express my deep and abiding concern with the protracted length, abnormal number, motive, and fairness of pending matters.'"

MSNBC's Mitchell, Melvin Denounce Gingrich's Rhetoric As Racist 'Dog Whistle'

By Jeffrey Meyer | January 20, 2012 | 18:23

A  A

Once again, an MSNBC reporter has falsely accused Newt Gingrich of using racial overtones in his critique of President Obama’s economic policies. On the Friday edition of her eponymous program Andrea Mitchell Reports, the veteran broadcast journalist maintained that Gingrich deploys language with coded racial overtones that she and fellow MSNBCers can detect is a racially-tinged "dog whistle." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

Colleague Craig Melvin, a black reporter who hails from Charleston, agreed with Mitchell, arguing that such language is "red meat to the Republican base" thereby attributing bigotry to rank-and-file South Carolina GOP voters.

MSNBC Gives Platform for Tebow-bashing, This Time by Leftist Writer Dave Zirin

By Ken Shepherd | January 13, 2012 | 16:45

A  A

"I have lost the debate on Tim Tebow’s skill as a quarterback. But I’ll still challenge Tim Tebow’s politics for as long as necessary. And in that battle, the fight continues."

That's how leftist sportswriter Dave Zirin concluded a January 8 column at EdgeofSports.com. So naturally Zirin was the perfect guest for MSNBC to bring on today to discuss the "polarizing" Tim Tebow. [MP3 audio available here; video posted below page break]

NBC Cheers College Course on Rapper Jay-Z By Left-Wing Professor Michael Eric Dyson

By Kyle Drennen | December 02, 2011 | 12:54

A  A

On Friday's NBC Today, MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin gushed over a new class at Georgetown University taught by liberal professor Michael Eric Dyson: "Race, class, gender, culture, all things that would be covered in most sociology classes and they're covered in Michael Eric Dyson's as well, but the issues are examined in a way that uniquely appeals to college students."

Melvin touted how, "Jay-Z's street rhymes that became stage anthems are being taught at one of America's top schools." He promoted the course as serious education: "In the Georgetown University syllabus, it's called, 'The Sociology of Hip-Hop: The Odyssey of Jay-Z.' For about 140 students twice a week it's 90 minutes of head bouncing and dissecting....Dyson uses Jay-Z's 2010 memoir 'Decoded' to break down lyrics, but maintains a traditional classroom, using articles, guest speakers, essays and exams."

MSNBC's Melvin Worries Rape Victims Might 'Presume' Guilt If They Shoot Would-be Rapists

By Ken Shepherd | November 01, 2011 | 15:57

A  A

For today's "Gut Check" segment on MSNBC's 2 p.m. Eastern NewsNation program, substitute host Craig Melvin interviewed a South Carolina sheriff who is urging women in his county to carry a concealed handgun for protection against would-be rapists.

During his Skype interview with Chuck Wright, Melvin worried about the poor dead would-be rapists being checked into the Spartanburg County morgue without the benefit of a trial (emphasis mine, video follows page break):

MSNBC Raises Fears of Looming Govt. Shutdown, Blames Conservatives for 'Hostage-taking'

By Ken Shepherd | September 22, 2011 | 12:41

A  A

A new poll is out showing a majority of Americans blame Barack Obama for the poor state of the U.S. economy.

It's no surprise, then, that MSNBC is hard at work trying to turn the public's fire on GOP-run House. [video embedded below page break]

MSNBC Tees Up Ron Howard, Jane Lynch to Lend Support to Obama Tax Hike

By Ken Shepherd | September 21, 2011 | 17:27

A  A

MSNBC daytime anchor Craig Melvin took minor detours in interviews this afternoon with director Ron Howard and actress Jane Lynch to ask both celebrities to weigh in on President Obama's push for higher taxes on upper income earners.

Both of them are liberals who support Obama and have given to Democrats in the past, so their answers were hardly surprising.

MSNBC's Craig Melvin to Sen. Barrasso: Isn't GOP 'Out of Step' with Voters on Tax Hikes?

By Ken Shepherd | September 20, 2011 | 12:33

A  A

New MSNBC daytime host Craig Melvin is quickly adapting to the network's liberal ethos.

Melvin, who was hired this summer from Washington, D.C. NBC station WRC-TV, pressed Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) from the left in an interview shortly after noon today about Republican opposition to President Obama's call for tax hikes on higher income earners.

MSNBC Anchor Calls Rick Perry's Moderate Immigration Record an 'Aggressive Stance'

By Alex Fitzsimmons | August 16, 2011 | 14:42

A  A

For MSNBC, Gov. Rick Perry's (R-Texas) record of enforcing existing law, protecting the border, and implementing "only a limited version" of the DREAM Act constitutes an "aggressive stance" on immigration that "may cost him some votes" in the Hispanic community, even though Perry's position on the DREAM Act is considered moderate within the Republican Party.

MSNBC fill-in anchor Craig Melvin on Tuesday quoted a Democratic mayor in Texas who called Perry's record "easily the most anti-Latino agenda in more than a generation" and brought on an adviser for the National Council for La Raza (NCLR) to criticize the presidential contender.
