MSNBC's Mitchell Warns Voter ID Is 'Voter Suppression' of 'Minority Vote,' Fails to Bring On Dissenting Point-of-view

By Ken Shepherd | July 17, 2012 | 18:11

A  A

Does MSNBC hype the bogeyman of racist "voter suppression" in a cynical ploy to alarm its liberal voter base? Only on days that end in "y."

Once again, network anchor Andrea Mitchell discarded any pretense of journalistic objective and played a game of softball with a liberal activist today, helping the Urban League's Marc Morial to denounce "voter suppression" laws -- that is voter ID laws -- that have passed in numerous states in recent years.

Sununu Smacks Down Juan Williams: 'Don't Let Your Blind Loyalty to This President Make You Sound Foolish'

By Noel Sheppard | July 13, 2012 | 09:44

A  A

As NewsBusters previously reported, former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu on Tuesday laughed in Andrea Mitchell's face when she defended Barack Obama's use of bogus outsourcing reports about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Continuing this trend of calling out Obama shills in the media, Sununu on Fox News's Hannity Thursday told Juan Williams, "Don't let your blind loyalty to this President make you sound foolish" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

WaPo's Pearlstein Insists Romney Guilty of Outsourcing, Despite His Paper Debunking Such Claims

By Kyle Drennen | July 11, 2012 | 17:42

A  A

Appearing on Wednesday's Andrea Mitchell Reports on MSNBC, Washington Post financial columnist Steve Pearlstein accused Mitt Romney of being responsible for Bain Capital outsourcing jobs, even after leaving the company: "...they were doing it because that was the company that Mitt Romney had set up. I'm not saying that's bad. But for him to say, 'Well, not on my watch,' is – is, you know, a little silly."

Actually, what's "silly" is Pearlstein apparently not reading his own paper's fact checking of Obama campaign attacks on Romney as an outsourcer – attacks which the Post's Glenn Kessler gave four Pinocchios to for their dishonesty. Kesseler explained: "Regarding the outsourcing claims, we have frowned on these before. The Obama campaign rests its case on three examples of Bain-controlled companies sending jobs overseas. But only one of the examples — involving Holson Burns Group — took place when Romney was actively managing Bain Capital."

John Sununu Laughs at Andrea Mitchell Defending Obama's Use of Bogus Romney Outsourcing Claims

By Noel Sheppard | July 10, 2012 | 17:01

A  A

It really has been hysterical watching the Obama-loving media the past few weeks defend the President using bogus information reported by the Washington Post falsely accusing Mitt Romney of outsourcing jobs while at Bain Capital.

This has become so comical that former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu (R) couldn't hold back the laughs as Andrea Mitchell did exactly that Tuesday on the MSNBC program bearing her name (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Bozell Column: Arizona, The Racist State?

By Brent Bozell | June 26, 2012 | 23:05

A  A

Though the Supreme Court overturned much of the Arizona law, but not the part the liberals and their media friends loathed the most, it wasn't hard to predict the networks would once again line up with the amnesty lobby. ABC's Diane Sawyer mourned "the most inflammatory part of the law" was upheld.

Once again, those impartial network producers are making themselves the sob sisters of illegal aliens. ABC found a man who carries a document in his glove compartment insisting that if he's deported, his children shouldn't go into foster care. NBC put on a woman watching cartoons with her cute little kids, wearing a T-shirt saying "Arrest [Sheriff Joe] Arpaio, Not the People." Reporter Savannah Guthrie predicted more lawsuits to repeal the one section the court upheld – because liberals never accept defeat. It's so predictable.

'Meet the Press' Panel Gangs Up on Rep. Issa, Dismisses Holder Contempt Vote as 'Distraction'

By Kyle Drennen | June 25, 2012 | 16:26

A  A

On Sunday's NBC Meet the Press, moderator David Gregory led the show's panelists in dismissing the House Government Oversight Committee holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt over the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal as a mere political "distraction" created by Republicans. [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

The committee's chairman, California Republican Congressman Darrell Issa, was also on the panel and interrogated by Gregory: "If you got everything you wanted, what do you think it would prove?....What would you be able to prove? I mean what the White House is saying is this is a fishing expedition, it's to score political points, it's all theater. What can you prove if you get everything you want?"

By Noel Sheppard | June 25, 2012 | 11:20

A  A

NBC News political director Chuck Todd said Monday the Supreme Court's ruling regarding Arizona's anti-illegal immigration law "is probably the worst of all outcomes if you’re Mitt Romney."

Such was said on MSNBC's Jansing and Company moments after the announcement (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | June 24, 2012 | 15:54

A  A

As NewsBusters reported Monday, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, on the MSNBC program bearing her name, aired a video of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney selectively edited in a fashion designed to make him look like an out of touch imbecile.

On CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday, host Howard Kurtz scolded Mitchell for expressing "no regret" for airing the clip (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Former Network TV Producer Disgusted by Andrea Mitchell Wawa Edits: 'I'm Done' Denying Liberal Bias

By Tim Graham | June 23, 2012 | 06:05

A  A

Greg Kandra, a blogger and Catholic deacon whose last job in network TV was at CBS working for Katie Couric, took to his Deacon's Bench blog to lament the sorry, biased state of TV news as NBC's Andrea Mitchell attempted to edit Mitt Romney's remarks at a Wawa convenience store into a "supermarket scanner moment"  that would make him look like an out-of-touch rich guy.

I used to defend the networks and tut-tut liberal bias, he wrote, but no more. "Forget it," he said, "I'm done. You deserve what they're saying about you."

Limbaugh: 'NBC News Is An Annex of the Democrat National Committee' for Selectively Editing Romney

By Noel Sheppard | June 19, 2012 | 19:16

A  A

As NewsBusters reported Monday, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, on the MSNBC program bearing her name, aired a video of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney selectively edited in a fashion designed to make him look like an out of touch imbecile.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh excoriated those involved with the airing of this video Tuesday going so far as calling NBC News “an annex of the Democrat National Committee” (videos follow courtesy Right Scoop with rough transcripts via RushLimbaugh.com and commentary):

MSNBC's Selectively Edited Romney Video, Andrea Mitchell's Non-Apology Illustrate Network's Dishonesty

By Brent Bozell | June 19, 2012 | 13:41

A  A

Barack Obama’s adoring cheerleaders at NBC are back in the editing room distorting the truth, and, not surprisingly, Andrea Mitchell has the gall to make no apologies for it.

First it was their vile attempt to make George Zimmerman sound like a racist to gin up racial conflict, and now they’ve set their sights on Mitt Romney who they’re desperately trying to paint as an out-of-touch, silver spoon Republican wowed by Wawa sandwiches. [Attached below page break: Our side-by-side comparison of the edited video plus video of Mitchell's non-apology]

MSNBC Hypes Minor Romney Gaffe, Edits Video to Remove Substance of Argument, Suggest He's Out of Touch

By Ken Shepherd | June 18, 2012 | 17:28

A  A

The next time a liberal friend of yours -- with a straight face -- tells you that MSNBC is concerned with substantive campaign reporting, you can throw this back at them.

The Right Scoop blog has an excellent post today -- be sure to also check out Soopermexican's original post -- about how the network's latest fixation: Mitt Romney mistakenly calling the Wawa convenience store chain "Wawa's" and seeming to be enthralled with their system for obtaining made-to-order sandwiches. Afternoon anchor Andrea Mitchell hinted at a long-since discredited "supermarket scanner" meme about President George H.W. Bush, suggesting Romney was unfamiliar with touch-screens in convenience stores. But missing in the network's fixation on the minor gaffe is the substance of Romney's comments, Right Scoop notes:

MSNBC Gives Soap Box to Left-Wing Nun Warning of 'Nation's Soul' Being 'Corrupted' By GOP Budget

By Kyle Drennen | June 14, 2012 | 17:28

A  A

Interviewing Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of the liberal Catholic group NETWORK, on her Thursday MSNBC show host Andrea Mitchell touted the organization's effort "to rally opposition to Paul Ryan's proposed health care cuts" with a nationwide "Nuns on the Bus" tour. In part, Campbell ranted that they wanted to make sure "our nation's soul is not corrupted further by the House Ryan budget."

Campbell began by touting Catholic bishops "who also say that the House-passed Ryan budget is actually immoral," and proclaimed that she and her left-wing colleagues, "know how terribly important it is that the American public understand the problems, the huge problems in the House-passed budget and that we need to educate the American people."

NBC's Mitchell: Does Middle Class Wealth Loss 'Justify' More Stimulus?

By Kyle Drennen | June 13, 2012 | 10:36

A  A

In an interview with Republican Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey on her Tuesday MSNBC show, host Andrea Mitchell attempted to use a new Federal Reserve report showing massive wealth loss for the American middle class to promote President Obama's agenda: "Does that, in fact, justify what the President has been saying...about the need for more help and the need for more stimulus?"

Toomey dismantled that argument: "The problem is the President's program has been making it worse. The President got the big stimulus bill that he wanted.... the economic growth is so feeble that we're not even creating enough jobs to meet the demands of the new entrants in the work force....Unfortunately, the President wants to double down on all the failed policies that he's been pursuing."

Andrea Mitchell: Citizens United Could Be Final 'Nail in the Coffin' for Watergate Reforms

By Kelly McGarey | June 12, 2012 | 11:36

A  A

To commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the infamous 1972 break-in at the Watergate, Andrea Mitchell on Monday hosted John Dean, President Nixon’s former legal counsel. The MSNBC anchor and the conservative critic actually connected the scandal to the 2010 Citizen United Supreme Court case.

During the interview, Dean complained that the “financial reform that came with Watergate is gone because of Supreme Court decisions.” Mitchell promptly agreed, calling it the“the nail in the coffin” for these supposed post-Watergate reforms. Mitchell continued her off-topic rant about the Citizens United ruling, complaining that if it "ends up being the law of the land for all future campaigns” it will be detrimental to the political system since, “there's no transparency as to where the money is coming from."  [Video follows page break;  MP3 audio here.]

MSNBC's Mitchell Unwittingly Contradicts Herself in Attempt to Bash Florida Voter 'Purge'

By Ken Shepherd | June 05, 2012 | 15:29

A  A

Florida is a "state where a small number of ballots can swing a presidential race," MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell noted on her eponymous program this afternoon as she introduced Miami Herald's Marc Caputo to discuss Florida's attempt to "purge" its voter rolls of noncitizens.

But while Caputo noted that some 13 noncitizens -- who are of course ineligible to vote -- have been found and eliminated from the state's voter rolls thanks to the Sunshine State's efforts, Mitchell sought to present the inquiry as a waste of time because it's found so few noncitizens on the voter rolls thus far. NBC's Mitchell: Queen Had to 'Put Up With' the 'Indignity' of Celebrating U.S. Bicentennial

By Kyle Drennen | June 05, 2012 | 11:41

A  A

As part of NBC's wall-to-wall Today show coverage of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II celebrating her Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday, chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell listed ways in which the United States has supposedly slighted the monarch over the years: "...she's put up with a lot from her former subjects. The indignity of going to where the revolution started, to celebrate the bicentennial of our independence from the monarchy."

Chris Matthews: 'Can the President Make Mitt Romney Scary?'

By Noel Sheppard | June 03, 2012 | 13:49

A  A

Chris Matthews must be really getting concerned that the man that gives him a thrill up his leg is in serious jeopardy of losing in November.

On this weekend's syndicated Chris Matthews Show, the host asked his panel of perilously liberal journalists, "Can the president make Mitt Romney scary?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Andrea Mitchell Lauds the 'Living Legacy' of Anita Hill, Knocks Clarence Thomas

By Scott Whitlock | October 12, 2011 | 16:54

A  A

According to MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, Clarence Thomas' accuser, Anita Hill, is a "living legacy." The cable anchor on Wednesday fawned over the woman who, 20 years ago, charged the now-Supreme Court justice with sexual harassment. At no point did she offer a tough question or challenge the honesty of Hill.

Instead, Mitchell treated the Brandeis professor as a larger than life figure, wondering, "How is it to live with this, this history? You are now part of history. You have been for 20 years."
