Defending the indefensible can make a liberal journalist a little prickly. How else do you explain Washington Post columnist Colbert I. "Colby" King's specious attack on his fellow Post colleague and Inside Washington panelist Charles Krauthammer this weekend?

It all happened when Krauthammer responded to a Post editorial, published in Thursday’s paper, which asserted that UN Ambassador Susan Rice did not mislead anyone about the nature of the September 11 Benghazi attack. Ninety-seven House Republicans had signed a letter charging that Rice did mislead the public, and the Post editorial demanded that those Republicans apologize to Rice. [Video below. MP3 audio here.]

In the midst of a segment bashing Rush Limbaugh Friday, PBS's Inside Washington panel nominated Charles Krauthammer over the talk radio host for voice of the Republican Party.

Playing along with the joke, Krauthammer replied, "If nominated, I will not run. But if elected, I’ll serve" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Former Newsweek editor Evan Thomas made a bizarre statement on PBS's Inside Washington Friday.

Political satirist Mark Russell came out of retirement Friday to trash Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer gave some well-deserved ribbing to the Washington Post's Colby King on PBS's Inside Washington Friday.

"You do live in a completely different world," Krauthammer told King when he disagreed with his views about the just-ended Democratic National Convention. "And you drink, what is it, the Kool-Aid? Isn’t that your favorite drink?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

After Yahoo's Washington bureau chief was fired Wednesday for saying the Romneys are "happy to have a party with black people drowning," you would think media members would be more careful accusing Republicans of racism.

Apparently not, for on PBS's Inside Washington Friday, Colby King, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post columnist, actually said Republicans "always have African-Americans on the [convention] podium. On Friday's Inside Washington on PBS, regular panel member and liberal Washington Post columnist Colby King admitted that it "bothers" him that Vice President Joe Biden felt the need to "resort to colloquialisms to talk to African-Americans," referring to the Vice President's "chains" gaffe in Danville, Virginia.

After host Gordon Peterson asked, "How did the White House handle this one?" King responded:
