CBS Touts Piers Morgan's Gun Control 'Crusade'; Morgan Boosts 'Really Draconian' Gun Bans

By Matthew Balan | January 10, 2013 | 17:05

A  A

Thursday's CBS This Morning trumpeted Piers Morgan's "crusade against gun violence in America", and gave the CNN host four and half minutes to spout his pro-gun control views unopposed. Morgan endorsed implementing something akin to the "really draconian" firearms regulations that the U.K. passed after the 1996 Dunblane massacre.

Despite denying that he wanted to take guns away from Americans, the British anchor repeatedly called for complete bans on "assault weapons" and handguns, along with high-capacity magazines [audio available here; video below the jump]:

Piers Morgan Sees No 'Sense of Humanity' from Gun Control Opponent

By Brad Wilmouth | January 10, 2013 | 13:17

A  A

As Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America appeared on Wednesday's Piers Morgan Tonight on CNN, host Morgan complained that he never sees a "sense of humanity" from the pro-gun activist during the discussion of shooting rampages.

Morgan implicitly suggested that Pratt does not seem compassionate toward shooting victims as the CNN host asserted:

By Noel Sheppard | January 09, 2013 | 23:13

The British-born CNN anchor named Piers Morgan took another swipe at America Wednesday.

CNN Proudly Touting Piers Morgan’s Gun Control Rant

By Matt Hadro | January 09, 2013 | 18:04

A  A

CNN has been doing its best to spotlight host Piers Morgan after he's clamored repeatedly for more gun laws. Morgan went on a liberal gun control rant during the 12 p.m. hour of Newsroom on Wednesday, and CNN replayed some of the rant again that afternoon.

Morgan called semi-automatic rifles "machine guns," preached that a "humane society" would ban such guns, and claimed the Second Amendment didn't protect ownership of such guns. In addition, he praised liberal politicians for pushing gun control measures. [Video below the break. Audio here.]

Former Marine Schools Piers Morgan: Americans Aren't As Trigger-Happy As Media Claim

By Noel Sheppard | January 08, 2013 | 23:26

A  A

Piers Morgan, CNN's most-outspoken and impolite gun control advocate, got a much-needed education about the Second Amendment and firearms Tuesday.

In the middle of a lengthy and uncharacteristically civil interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, former Marine Joshua Boston said, "The American people aren't as gun-happy and trigger-happy as they're being painted out to be by the media. They are smarter than that. They know when to hold their fire. They know when to fire" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Ten Outrageous Anti-Gun ’Journalists’

By Liz Thatcher | January 08, 2013 | 12:01

A  A

The media agenda against guns is nothing new. But recent mass shootings have encouraged supposedly neutral journalists to push for gun regulation instead of reporting the facts surrounding the tragedies.

One thing the media seldom mention is that both the Newtown and Aurora shootings occurred in gun free zones. In the Clackamas Town Center Shooting in Oregon, however, a gunman was stopped when someone with a concealed carry permit intervened. There were only two casualties in this shooting which received little media attention. If this incident was mentioned, the concealed carry part of the story was almost completely ignored.

Piers Morgan Threatens to 'Seriously Consider Deporting Myself' if America Doesn't Tighten Gun Control

By Randy Hall | December 31, 2012 | 19:29

A  A

Just when it seemed that the controversy over gun control based on remarks from Piers Morgan couldn't get any stranger, the CNN weeknight talk show host wrote a lengthy article for the UK's Daily Mail newspaper in which he made a bizarre threat.

“If the country doesn’t change its gun laws," he wrote, “I would, as a concerned parent first … seriously consider deporting myself.”

Piers Morgan Strikes Again: Claims Bible 'Inherently Flawed,' Needs to Be 'Amended'

By Randy Hall | December 28, 2012 | 14:28

A  A

To paraphrase the late President Ronald Reagan: “There he goes again!” Apparently, it's not enough for CNN weeknight host Piers Morgan to be the target of petitions to the White House demanding him to either be sent packing to his native England or be forced to remain in America because “No one in the U.K. wants him back.”

Then on Christmas Eve, Morgan used his interview with evangelical Pastor Rick Warren -- author of the popular “Purpose Driven Life” book -- to charge that “the Bible and the Constitution were very well-intentioned” but are “basically inherently flawed,” thus requiring an amendment to the Bible.

CNN's Piers Morgan Receives Holiday Jeers for His Harsh Stance on Gun Control

By Randy Hall | December 27, 2012 | 12:05

A  A

This is the time of year when people dream of a Merry Christmas, wish others a Happy New Year and celebrate other enjoyable holidays.

One apparently notable exception this year is CNN's Piers Morgan, whose tirade against the Second Amendment has probably made him yearn for getting a piece of coal in his Christmas stocking instead of a White House petition calling for him to return to his native England and another poll from that country demanding that he remain in the U.S.

CBS's Bill Plante Minimizes Pro-Gun Rights Voices; Slants 3 to 1 In Favor of Gun Control

By Matthew Balan | December 19, 2012 | 19:32

Bill Plante apparently couldn't be bothered to find more than one conservative/Republican for his report on Wednesday's CBS This Morning. Plante aired one soundbite from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, but followed it with three straight clips from liberals/gun control supporters - White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, the Brady Campaign's Dan Gross, and Kentucky Rep. John Yarmuth, who attacked the NRA's leadership as "bullies".

The correspondent hyped supposed "public outrage over the massacre [that] has also emboldened members of Congress to challenge the power of the gun lobby." Plante also spotlighted the NRA's multi-million dollar lobbying campaign in 2012:

Piers Morgan Claims to ‘Respect’ Second Amendment But Calls for Gun Control Anyway

By Matt Hadro | December 19, 2012 | 17:51

A  A

British CNN host Piers Morgan continued ranting about America's "gun problem" on Wednesday and claimed ownership of semi-automatic rifles has "nothing to do with the Second Amendment."

"And so you have to deal with the primary problem that America faces, which is guns. Guns. Guns. Guns. And it's nothing to do with the Second Amendment right to defend yourself, and everything to do with military-style weapons that could slaughter," he insisted. [Video below the break. Audio here.]

By Noel Sheppard | December 19, 2012 | 09:42

NY Congressman Calls NRA 'Enablers of Mass Murder'

By Noel Sheppard | December 15, 2012 | 10:57

A  A

Friday's horrible massacre at a Connecticut elementary school has predictably fired up the left in this country to call for tighter gun restrictions as they blame the event on pro-Second Amendment advocates.

Possibly the worst example of this came Friday evening on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight when Democratic New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler disgracefully said, "We have a lobby, the leadership of the NRA, who function as enablers of mass murder. And that's what they are. They're enablers of mass murder" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Giuliani Smacks Down Piers Morgan's Liberal Talking Points

By Matt Hadro | December 14, 2012 | 14:01

After CNN's Piers Morgan served up liberal defenses of Susan Rice that she is a "bright young woman" who was bullied by Republicans out of a secretary of state nomination, guest Rudy Giuliani scoffed at that on Thursday's Piers Morgan Tonight.

"I mean critics are saying, look, she's basically been stitched up here by a load of older guys in the Republican Party who've looked at a bright young woman and thought we're going to get you out of here," Morgan absurdly argued. [Video below the break. Audio here.]

CNN Lauds Cory Booker's 'Pretty Extraordinary' 'Food Stamp Challenge'

By Matt Hadro | December 10, 2012 | 19:45

In the face of possible cuts to food stamp programs, CNN let Democratic Newark Mayor Cory Booker rail against the House cuts and publicize his own attempt to live off of food stamps for a week. On Friday night host Piers Morgan lauded Booker, calling his food stamp challenge "something really pretty extraordinary" and "a life-changing experience for him."

In addition, Morgan cast Republicans as villains wanting to protect the rich at the expense of the hungry, asking GOP pollster Kristen Soltis, "do you feel comfortable that the Republicans are prepared to slash investment into something like food stamps in an effort to try and protect – as it seems to many people -- the wealthiest two percent from paying more tax?" Piers Morgan Renews Gun Debate With Twitter Foe On His Show

By Matt Hadro | December 06, 2012 | 12:00

When CNN's Piers Morgan ranted about gun control on Twitter the other day, business strategist Carol Roth educated him about the Second Amendment in an exchange that made headlines. Roth then appeared on Morgan's Wednesday night show for more gun debate.

"I think what it boils down to is the ability to protect yourself, Piers," she told Morgan. "As a gun owner, you want to be able to protect yourself." For his part, Morgan continued his push for gun control and pointed to Great Britain, Australia, Germany and Japan as successful examples. [Video below the break]

Hall of Famer Namath to Piers Morgan: Blame Violence on the 'Animal We Are', Not Guns

By Matthew Balan | December 04, 2012 | 17:58

Football Hall of Famer Joe Namath called out NBC's Bob Costas on Monday's Piers Morgan Tonight for gratuitously inserting his pro-gun control views into a NFL telecast: "As a football fan, I'm not up to that kind of a halftime take. There is a time and a place for it, and I wasn't pleased about that."

Namath also hinted that gun control efforts were ultimately futile because of humanity's unpredictable nature: "I think there's always going to be a problem dealing with firearms, with knives. It's the animal we are that cause the problems." [audio available here; video below the jump]

Piers Morgan Lectures Reince Priebus and 'Intransigent' GOP on Taxes

By Matt Hadro | November 28, 2012 | 17:45

On Tuesday, Piers Morgan lashed out at "intransigent" Republicans and lectured RNC chair Reince Priebus that now is the time to compromise and increase taxes "to the benefit of the American national interest."

"But you Republicans led by Grover Norquist are absolutely intransigent about allowing any raise in taxation, and yet the American public want you to do it," Morgan lectured Priebus. Later on in his show, he smacked "implacable" GOP opposition to tax increases.  [Video below the break. Audio here.]

Non-Partisan? Not a Chance! The Worst of CNN's Election Bias

By Matt Hadro | November 19, 2012 | 10:01

A  A

As NewsBusters' Tim Graham reported, CNN's Washington Bureau Chief Sam Feist bragged that his is the only network "that hasn't picked sides in this election," and that viewers responded to CNN's credibility by making it the most-watched cable news channel on election night.

Of course, this begs the question of why viewers haven't turned to CNN on most other nights but regardless, Feist's claim of non-partisanship doesn't hold water. Indeed, CNN's own Howard Kurtz warned in July of a media double standard favoring President Obama that is apparent "to many people."

Below are some of the worst examples of CNN's liberal bias during this election cycle, beginning after Mitt Romney became the clear Republican challenger to President Obama on May 2, when candidate Newt Gingrich dropped out of the race.

CNN: Obama's Win Wasn't a Mandate...Except It Was

By Matt Hadro | November 14, 2012 | 18:07

A  A

Despite CNN correspondent Dana Bash's claim that "neither side has a really clear mandate" from the election, CNN anchors went ahead on Tuesday and Wednesday and pushed Republicans to admit that President Obama has a mandate to raise taxes by virtue of his party's election gains.

On Tuesday night, Piers Morgan called Paul Ryan's denial of a mandate "ridiculous, given President Obama was re-elected, he's got the perfect mandate. The American people have spoken and they've said, we're re-electing you. He can raise taxation if he wants to, can't he?" [Video below the break. Audio here.]

Moderate Mitt Loses, Media Blame Conservatives

By Christian Robey | November 14, 2012 | 11:30

A  A

Over the past week, the media have been obsessively attributing the GOP’s election loss to the party’s embrace of conservatism. It began with a predictable assault on the standard bearer of conservative thought over the airwaves, Rush Limbaugh. On election night, NBC’s Brian Williams opined that Rush was a liability for the GOP. And it didn’t stop with Williams.

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe David Frum seconded that sentiment by claiming that Republicans were “fleeced, exploited and lied to” by the “conservative entertainment complex,” another obvious dig at Limbaugh and talk radio. Scarborough agreed, proclaiming that the GOP needs to stop listening to the “most extreme people” in the Party. Rounding out the week on Sunday, the all-liberal panel on NBC’s Meet The Press, piled on the anti-Limbaugh message: the loss was due to Limbaugh and the “loons and wackos” of the conservative base.
