Dowd: Obama Didn't Call Congress Back Because 'It Would Have Screwed Up His Vacation and Upset Michelle'

By Noel Sheppard | August 21, 2011 | 10:46

A  A

As NewsBusters has been reporting, the Obama-loving media have largely been gushing and fawning over the current White House resident taking a vacation on Martha's Vineyard as the economy appears to be heading into a double-dip recession.

Giving an interesting insight into the President's decision to not call Congress back from its summer break to tackle the problems facing the nation was New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd who wrote Sunday:

Fareed Zakaria: Maybe We'd Still Be AAA If We Had a Prime Minister Not a President

By Noel Sheppard | August 20, 2011 | 17:27

A  A

Sometimes I wonder how liberal media members could possibly live in the same country as I do and hold such startlingly absurd ideas about it.

Take for example Fareed Zakaria who on the CNN program bearing his name this Sunday is going to tell viewers that America would likely still have a AAA credit rating if we had a parliamentary system of government with a prime minister rather than a president (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | August 20, 2011 | 10:26

A  A

Stock markets around the world are once again imploding in fear of a global double-dip recession.

Appearing on PBS's "Inside Washington" Friday, NPR's Nina Totenberg said Barack Obama can cure what ails us with "a lot of very populist rhetoric" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Matthews: Wouldn't it Be Scary to Have President That Doesn't Believe in Evolution or Climate Change?

By Noel Sheppard | August 19, 2011 | 19:24

A  A

Unemployment is at 9.1 percent, housing and stock prices are plummeting, national debt is exploding, and Medicare is going bankrupt.

Yet MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews' greatest fear is a president that doesn't believe in evolution or climate change (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Lefty Sachs Zaps Obama: 'No Plan, No Leadership'

By Mark Finkelstein | August 19, 2011 | 08:04

A  A

All joking aside about "if Obama has lost [fill in the blank], he has lost America", there was a stunning display today of a formerly ardent supporter condemning in the most fundamental terms President Obama's failure of leadership.

On Morning Joe, leftist Columbia Prof. Jeffrey Sachs absolutely scalded the president.  Declared Sachs: the stimulus failed.  Three years in, Obama has no plan,  and is providing "no leadership." Ouch. View video after the jump.

Ed Schultz Edits Rick Perry to Falsely Accuse Him of Making Racist Remark About Obama

By Noel Sheppard | August 16, 2011 | 18:43

A  A

For months, NewsBusters has been warning readers that America's media are going to do everything in their power to label all contenders to Barack Obama racist.

On Monday's "The Ed Show," the host edited Rick Perry - in mid-sentence, mind you! - to falsely accuse the Texas governor of making a racist remark about America's first black president (video follows with partial transcript and commentary):

Networks Embrace Buffett’s Call for Higher Taxes on ‘Mega-Rich,’ ABC Salivates Over Spending It

By Brent Baker | August 16, 2011 | 02:08

A  A

“Billionaires on notice,” ABC anchor Diane Sawyer teased Monday’s World News in trumpeting, as did CBS and NBC, a New York Times op-ed by liberal billionaire Warren Buffett. Sawyer heralded Buffett’s quest: “Is it time for the mega-rich to pay at least the same tax rate as their secretaries? And if they did pay their fair share, would it fix America's schools or roads?”

Sawyer soon ludicrously asserted “working men and women,” meaning the non-wealthy, “pay the most taxes.” In fact, as detailed by the Tax Foundation, “America's wealthiest taxpayers are paying a disproportionate share of the income tax burden” while half of all households pay no income taxes.

Pat Buchanan Challenges Warren Buffett: 'Set an Example and Send a Check for $5 Billion to the Federal Government'

By Noel Sheppard | August 15, 2011 | 09:11

A  A

The liberal media are predictably fawning over billionaire Warren Buffett's op-ed in the New York Times Monday calling for new taxes on the super-rich.

This led MSNBC's Pat Buchanan on Monday's "Morning Joe" to challenge the Oracle of Omaha asking, "Why doesn’t he set an example and send a check for $5 billion to the federal government?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Gregory Scolds Bachmann for Listening to Public Opinion on Debt Ceiling

By Noel Sheppard | August 14, 2011 | 21:32

A  A

It appears David Gregory is a bit confused about how our system of government works.

During intense questioning of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on Sunday's "Meet the Press," the host scolded his guest for having the nerve to actually care what the American people thought about raising the debt ceiling (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Paul Krugman Calls for Space Aliens to Attack Earth Requiring Massive Defense Buildup to Stimulate Economy

By Noel Sheppard | August 14, 2011 | 10:29

Oh those whacky liberals.

On Sunday's "Fareed Zakaria GPS," New York Times columnist - and, ahem, Nobel laureate - Paul Krugman actually advocated space aliens attack earth thereby requiring a massive defense buildup by the United States that would stimulate the economy (video follows with transcript and commentary):

NYT's Blow: Every Time Bachmann Said 'As President of the United States' Thursday 'I Blacked Out'

By Noel Sheppard | August 13, 2011 | 11:42

"I must confess that every time Representative Michele Bachmann uttered the phrase 'as president of the United States' during Thursday's Republican presidential debate I blacked out a little bit, so I'm sure that I missed some things."

The Debt Panel's Patty Murray Problem

By Michelle Malkin | August 12, 2011 | 17:10

A  A

Everything that's wrong with the so-called debt "super-committee" can be summed up in the person, partisan hackery and policy ignorance of Washington Democratic Sen. Patty Murray.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid named Murray co-chair of the dog-and-pony deficit-reduction panel tasked with identifying $1.5 trillion in spending cuts by late November. Murray, an unrepentant Nanny State cheerleader and patron saint of the Washington lobbyist, is a double-exclamation point on the debt deal's rotten joke.

Networks Take Cue from Obama, Start Attacking S&P Only After He Does

By Julia A. Seymour | August 12, 2011 | 09:53

A  A

The recent decision by Standard & Poor's to downgrade the U.S. credit rating to AA+ from AAA upset many on the left, especially those within the Obama administration. The White House lashed out at S&P and some in the news media did too. So Business & Media Institute decided to look back at six years of network (ABC,CBS and NBC) coverage of S&P.

BMI found out that bulk of network criticism of the ratings agency came AFTER the Obama administration went on the attack and that the networks relied on S&P experts three times more than they criticized them.

Romney’s ‘Corporations Are People’ Called a ‘Gaffe’ as Nets Disguise Agenda of Leftist Hecklers in Iowa

By Brent Baker | August 11, 2011 | 22:30

A  A

ABC’s Jake Tapper on Thursday night scolded Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for a “gaffe” over his assertion that “corporations are people” since “everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people.”

That common sense observation came in reaction to a bunch of hecklers, from a left-wing activist group, who confronted Romney in Iowa, yet neither ABC or CBS acknowledged their agenda. The CBS Evening News, in fact, put “Voter Anger” on screen over one of the screaming leftists as anchor Scott Pelley declared “voters are angry about the economy.”

Rush Limbaugh: 'The Chris Matthewses and the Media Are Very Close to the Rioters in London in Terms of Anger, Disappointment'

By Noel Sheppard | August 11, 2011 | 20:31

As NewsBusters reported, MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Wednesday took some poorly-researched cheap shots at conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh responded Thursday explaining that this is borne of frustration over the failure of Barack Obama noting, "The Chris Matthewses and the media are very close to the rioters in London in terms of anger, disappointment" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Chris Matthews: 'Paul Ryan Stuck His Neck Out and [Obama] Punched His Head Off'

By Noel Sheppard | August 11, 2011 | 18:48

Remember the good old days when political commentators were governing their tongues and offering Americans a far more civil tone in the wake of the tragic shootings in Tucson?

Well, MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Thursday demonstrated just how bygone those days are when he gleefully reminisced about Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) sticking his neck out with a bold budget proposal months ago only to have President Obama "[punch] his head off" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Rick Santelli Rips CNBC Guest For Calling Tea Partiers 'Freaked Out White Men Who Are Unemployed'

By Noel Sheppard | August 10, 2011 | 12:54

Banking analyst Meredith Whitney made a big mistake on CNBC Wednesday calling Tea Party members "freaked out white men who are unemployed" when Rick Santelli was about to come on the program.

Not surprisingly, Santelli after his pre-market interview with Steve Liesman went right after Whitney's foolish comments even making it personal (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Soros-Funded Media Toe Liberal Line in Debt Coverage

By Iris Somberg | August 10, 2011 | 11:42

A  A

Coverage of the debt battle and ratings downgrade by Soros-funded media outlets followed the standard liberal line. Conservatives are blamed for blocking tax hikes, the ratings agency itself is called unreliable, and increased financial regulations are called for.

Forget the House proposal of Cut Cap and Balance. Further spending cuts aren't even given the time of day among top Soros-funded news sites, unless they are being criticized. Increased taxes are the only option in their world.

Spending Is Just Our Second-Biggest Problem

By David Limbaugh | August 09, 2011 | 19:03

A  A

Being a disciple of Saul Alinsky might not be so easy as it would appear. President Obama and his minions obviously can't decide whom to scapegoat for the nation's credit downgrade and our financial crisis.

One thing is for sure: It's not in Barack Obama to accept personal responsibility for the consequences of his actions and policies. He still won't own this economy and the exploding spending spiral, reminding us at every turn that our problems are a result of what he "inherited" from President Bush.

MSNBC's Thomas Roberts: GOP Opposition to Govt. Spending an 'Act of Treason'

By Alex Fitzsimmons | August 09, 2011 | 13:15

A  A

MSNBC's Thomas Roberts implied Tuesday that members of Congress who oppose efforts to inject more government spending into the economy, as President Barack Obama proposed recently, are committing an "act of treason."

"Why don't people look at that as an act of treason?" the daytime anchor asked the Washington Post's Ezra Klein, who shrugged off the accusation.

"I don't think what happens is Mitch McConnell and John Boehner retire to their volcano lair and plot how to doom the American economy," replied the liberal blogger.

S&P Downgrade Is Media's Fault Not The Tea Party's

By Noel Sheppard | August 09, 2011 | 09:22

Obama advisers, Democrat senators, and terminally stupid ideologues that for days have blamed Standard and Poor's downgrade of America's debt on the Tea Party are sadly mistaken.

America Downgraded!

By Cal Thomas | August 09, 2011 | 06:00

A  A

My father was a product of the Great Depression and World War II. Like so many others of his generation, he, like his parents before him, knew how to "do without."

When he told us, "we can't afford it," that did not mean our family was deprived of material things we deserved, instead it marked a boundary not to be crossed because on the other side, waiting to greet us, were the twin demons of bad credit and financial ruin. "Always pay the bank," was my father's sound advice. And so I have, which is why my credit score remains high.

Newsweek's Tomasky: Obama's Screwed Because He Naively Believes in 'Civic Virtue'

By Ken Shepherd | August 08, 2011 | 18:29

To Michael Tomasky, Barack Obama's problem is not lack of leadership or a rigid fixation to liberal ideology.

No, it's just that the president is too darn decent a guy, a veritable Mr. Smith who's gone to Washington, but perhaps in this case without the Capraesque happy ending:
