ABC: What Would Jesus Do? Why He'd Vote Obama, Of Course

The weekend edition of Good Morning America found a fellow that decided to try and live for one year "like Jesus would" but what host Bill Weir found keenly interesting is that this guy voted for Barack Obama because he felt that living like Jesus compelled him to do so. Weir also wondered if the Jesus emulator had to "forgive" his Christian community for any reaction they might have had over the fact that he voted for Barack.

Former pastor Ed Dobson of Grand Rapids, Michigan appeared on the weekend edition of GMA to briefly discuss his year of living like Jesus in a segment called "What Would Jesus Do?" Dobson talked about how hard it was to walk in Christ's path and was shaken by having to forgive and bless the terrorists in Iraq that took the life via a roadside bomb of a soldier friend of his son.

But, Dobson's vote for Barack Obama was an issue that GMA host Bill Weir was very interested in.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Bill Weir: "And you voted for Barack Obama."

Ed Dobson: "I did, indeed."

Weir: "Why?"

Dobson: "I decided since I had read through the gospels at that point over 30 times, I wanted to know who best represented the fundamental teachings of Jesus, and I felt that he more than any other candidate represented the teachings of Jesus, so I voted for him, my first vote for a Democrat."

Weir: "Which brought some scorn I imagine from your Christian community there? Which then led to you having to forgive them." (Weir laughs)

Fortunately, Dobson said that he wasn't necessarily saying that Jesus would vote for Obama. I would imagine a better case could be made that Jesus would not be voting at all for this earthly kingdom, though to be sure Jesus did not advocate that Christians should shun government entirely -- after all, he beseeched us all to "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" and to obey our earthly laws for the most part.

I am also quite dubious that Jesus would vote for Obama since Obama has the most extreme pro-abortion record of nearly any politician around. Supporting killing babies born alive after a botched abortion is not something I could see getting Jesus' vote. But, who am I to presume what goes on in the mind of God?

The most interesting thing here is that host Bill Weir felt that Pastor Dobson would have to "forgive" a negative reaction to his vote by his "Christian community" as Weir put it. Does Weir imagine that Dobson's Christian friends would attack him over a vote for Barack Obama?

Apparently he does. Naturally, only the worst is assumed about the “Christian community” at ABC.

It is sad that this guy and ABC GMA had to take what could have been an uplifting and interesting story and turned it to political partisanship.

let's see..

Would Jesus fund abortion clinics and kill babies before, during and after delivery? Don't think so. Would Jesus confiscate money from those who work to give it to those who don't? Don't think so. Would Jesus condone lying and adultery? Forgive, yes, condone, no. Yeah, I can see why he voted for Comrade Glorious Supreme Leader Obama!

Amen!

God is Omnipresent, that's different than just voting "Present".

"Most men lead lives of quiet desperation"... until they get fed-up enough to finally say something about it!

One 'Chgristian' voted for Obama. Woohoo!!!

GMA manages to find a 'Christian' who voted for Obama so it's national news.

Want news? Try putting a black dude on TV who decided to vote for McCain because he believed that black Americans would be better offer under a GOP President. THAT would have been news.

But, instead, GMA and all the other MSM lackeys manage to find somebody who agrees with them and treat it like a Christmas Miracle. It's so pathetic. So self-deluded and so incredibly corrupt.

Take The Lords Name In Vain

Despite what most people on television think, taking the Lords name is vain is name utter some trite curse word.

Vanity is actually assuming to know the mind of God or to be divinely performing under His direction and falsely claiming His authority to support your own agenda or actions.

Vanity seems to be the best description of what this dude is doing by claiming that voting for Obama was inspired by Jesus.  To assume that one read Scriptures to choose a political candidate is EXACTLY what the MSM claims they hate about the Christian Right.

But since this particular guy is on their side, this is the kind of Vanity that they can get behind.

What our "learned" "pastor" doesn't seem to comprehend is ...

... that there are two codes of conduct.  There is a PERSONAL code of conduct in which you turn the other cheek and then there is the NATIONAL code of conduct in which you CARRY A BIG STICK AND USE IT!  God instituted governments to PROTECT citizens from TERRORISTS.

"For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.  For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an AGENT OF WRATH to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." (Romans 13:3-4).

Come on churchy people!  Read your bibles!

Oh, and Jesus would not have run for President KNOWING he was an ILLEGAL ALIEN.

Next Time Read for Understanding

"I decided since I had read through the gospels at that point over 30 times, I wanted to know who best represented the fundamental teachings of Jesus, and I felt that he more than any other candidate represented the teachings of Jesus, so I voted for him, my first vote for a Democrat."

Perhaps in the next 30 readings, he will try and read for comprehension.  Where in the teachings of Jesus does a person read Jesus' approval of abortion, gay marriage and turning everything over to the government?

I feel like ...

I feel like I should read Pastor Dobson's comments while listening to Wierd Al Yankovic's "Amish Paradise."

Man, what a beard. Just give him the black hat and outfit.

Wow, he voted for Obama. A first vote for a democrat. He represented the best choice for a candidate following the teaching of Christ.

Let's see.

1. McCain has adopted children of a different race, Obama doesn't. Suffer the little children to come to Christ. ( Which means that Obama can ignore his Aunt in Boston and it is o.k. ? After all, he is not his Aunt's keeper )

2. McCain has donated 10% or greater of his income to charity, Obama hasn't ( biblical standard met here ?).

3. McCain is pro-life, Obama isn't. ( Does this mean that Jesus doesn't love the little children now? )

4. McCain was beaten and tortured for his beliefs. Obama was courted for his beliefs ( What then is Obama's cross? )

I sense a theme here and it is not Christian.

It is an Amiss Paradise or Paradise Lost.

It's Amish Paradise, lost

I'm sure we'll have balance

I'm sure we'll have balance and see within the next few days pastors or reverends on GMA that will also say that they voted against Obama because of Jesus's teachings, for instance...most if not all of the Catholic bishops.

Yes that is sarcasm...but I'm sure they would have an easier time finding them than people like Dobson.

I see three compelling

I see three compelling reasons why the MSM just had to put this guy on TV.

  • The obvious reason that he suports Obama
  • The fact that he does not actually understand Christianity
  • The fact that his last name is "Dobson" and could be confused by some people with Dr. James Dobson, thus either lending Ed Dobson unearned credibility, or helping to damage Dr. James Dobson's reputation.

Going A Bit More

When you look into the background of this man, you will see he worked for Jerry Falwell, someone the left hated with a passion.

I have a feeling that what we are seeing now is a man who became disenchanted with Conservative Christianity and drifted to the new liberal Christianity we're seeing.

Let's watch and see if he goes "Scott McClellan" on the religious right.

He's obviously confusing Jesus with Judas

Judas was the liberal. Remember when Mary M washed Jesus' feet, Judas walked in & fussed about using expensive perfume that could have been sold to raise money for the poor?

"If you don't read a newspaper, you are uninformed. If you do read a newspaper, you are mis-informed."-Mark Twain

And furthermore....

Jesus will not ask anyone to live like him for a year. He wants all. Otherwise, Dobson's just a history buff doing a re-inactment.

"If you don't read a newspaper, you are uninformed. If you do read a newspaper, you are mis-informed."-Mark Twain

Wouldn't it be up for interpretation

to say if this guy has lived as Jesus would have?   Voting for an abortion supporting candidate does not say to me that mr. dobson even understands what christianity means.

Maybe he means things like

Maybe he means things like walking everywhere in sandals and wearing a robe & beard means he is "living" like Jesus. He may even dabble in carpentry.

"If you don't read a newspaper, you are uninformed. If you do read a newspaper, you are mis-informed."-Mark Twain

Already Done

"Maybe he means things like walking everywhere in sandals and wearing a robe & beard means he is "living" like Jesus."

That was already done by Mother Teresa.  Except the beard part.

Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools

Judases all ! !

As for the "Christian community":  Christian as a label is grossly misused and misapplied in these days. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as your Saviour do you become a Believer and a real Christian.

The word Christian is found only twice in the Bible. (Acts 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16)

This subject was a failed idea from the start. Spiritual uplifting and the msm are obvious contradictions. To even think about Jesus supporting evil is blasphemous. He sat with sinners, but He didn't support sin.

This is akin to thinking the Discovery channels and the History channel are needed to understand the Bible.

Dobson (Ed) is an apostate.
