ABC News is reporting a new cast member to ABC's "The View," some gal named Sherri Shepherd. But that ho hum isn't the real news because buried at the tail of the piece is this little gem:
Meanwhile, preliminary Nielsen Media Research ratings found that 3.4 million people watched Goldberg's debut on Tuesday. That's one million shy of O'Donnell's audience for her first show last September. O'Donnell's stormy tenure on "The View" lasted less than a year.
Oopsie, Whoopi!
Not the draw they thought you were going to be, Whoopster?
Let's keep a Newsbusters eye on this downward spiral.
And, one other thing to think about. Will black activists claim that Whoopi's lower rating is because Whoopi is black? Of course, if you stop and think about it even further, only "moderates" and liberals watch this show in the first place, so aren't they calling their own brethren on the left the racists?

Whoopi
September 7, 2007 - 21:05 ET by geminicontenderFirst of all let me say that Whoopi (even though very liberal in most circles), is also very intelligent and has the ability to argue a point very well. Something 'real' libs cannot do. Also, she's black. No more white liberal sticking up for the black minority. You now have it right in front of you. Lower ratings? Maybe true liberals cannot handle the 'actualities' of their preachings. Just a thought. I do like Whoopi very much even though I may disagree with her.

September 7, 2007 - 21:13 ET by Warner Todd HustonI agree that she is no dummy. However, I can't say I have ever enjoyed ANY of her "work." I find her crass, loud and not funny in the least. She can't act worth a lick, either.
Of course, I think U.S. comedy died sometime about 1978 or so. There hasn't been a funny comedian since the Dean Martin Roast stopped filming! And, only a small, small handful of funny films have come out in the last 30 years.
I can only think of a few films that were anything near actually FUNNY!
And Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, or Will Ferrel haven't been in ANY of them (Well, "Anchorman" was pretty inventive and amusing for Will).
I agree, Warner. While
September 8, 2007 - 07:28 ET by motherbeltI agree, Warner. While Goldberg may be intelligent, when it comes to political humor, hers stinks, just like every other liberal's. That's because they are not funny. They don't know how to "poke fun" at someone. They only know how to spew vitriol and call it joking.
I also think Whoopi got the "black seat" on the show, to replace Star Jones. I think libs would have hollered at an all-white cast, when they had the opportunity to hire another black woman.
PS I know we're "dating" ourselves, but I loved the Dean Martin roasts too! Now THAT was comedy. They knew how to poke fun at their friends in a good-humored way....not this hate that liberal comic/activists (see Mos Def in related thread) call humor.
Whoopi
September 7, 2007 - 21:22 ET by Felicity RandI will agree, Geminicontender. She has been interviewed on Sean Hannity and O'R and I was impressed by her performance. At least she's willing to talk. I gave her points for even going on these shows.
And she's pro Second Amendment.
"May (?) disagree"
September 8, 2007 - 07:46 ET by ThreePuttinDude"May (?) disagree" WOW, I find it funny that you "MAY" disagree with her. What has she ever done/said that you would find agreeable?
I've never heard anything from her that was agreeable to me. She's nothing more than a foul mouthed female black mudslinger who never shuts-the-#%$&-up.
That's right
September 8, 2007 - 08:50 ET by SportPoliticsAnd she is repulsively ugly.
I have never watched a single one of her movies, I can't take 5 minutes, and what an irritating slag drawl.
Go back to the hood and projekz of narlans, and keep going till you hit jamacia, get the hell away from me, you lowclass foul skumbag.
Fat cleavage
September 7, 2007 - 21:10 ET by Lame CherryI surfed The View today and notice Whooper was on, but I found nausea on the fare when Joy Behar had on this low cut top and had this fat cleavage squishing out. Couple that with old fossil Babs not even Liz could make me watch any longer than a click.
Whooper reminds me so much of OJ when he was on Monday Night Football. They both are so grumbling low talking that it puts one to sleep.

I have never watched the show...ever.
Just posted when Justin put clips on that became news all over the network.
The View is nothing but a waste of time....a leftist one with an agenda at that.
No worries, Baba Wawa will
September 7, 2007 - 21:11 ET by fitzfongNo worries, Baba Wawa will just get Ted Danson to reprise his Friar's Club routine to bring ratings to the Whoopi-led View. No doubt that butt-ugly, shrill, unfunny F-List Kathy Griffin will get the other seat to make the show even more unwatchable than it was before.

Perhaps Whoopi's debut is just coincidence and not causal.
I'm thinking the The View has run its course. A low brow snark-fest has its limits, even with soccer moms.
the view
September 7, 2007 - 22:42 ET by David N MOI believe I recorded the view for over a year and watched it most every night until I finally got fed up with Rosie. Even though it was "fall on yo face" leaning liberal it was entertaining... kindof like watching the Three Stooges... and Elizabeth is?/was becoming a better apologist for the conservative side every day. Now that Whoopi is on I'll start recording again. After all I did like her in both Sister Act movies, Ghost and Jumping Jack Flash. She's not all bad.
But if they have Mista Gore on there I'll drop 'em like a hot potatoE
God save the USA... Please?
David, c'mon! The Three
September 7, 2007 - 23:43 ET by MikeBDavid, c'mon! The Three Stooges were much more intellectually astute and of much higher class than The View. Especially with Rosie O'Donut's tinfoil hat conspiracy theories.
In case you are wondering: no, I am not a Three Stooges fan.

}}---> Makin' Whoopi
September 7, 2007 - 23:52 ET by Cool ArrowMakin' Whoopi a moderator just bores people to tears. OK, so she did succeed in getting in her "double standard is OK for Mike Vick because black", but how much of her racism will American women take?
The viewers are women who recoil at much of the Liberal emasculation Whoopi et ilk try to foist on young boys.

September 8, 2007 - 00:21 ET by mattmThe only thing remarkable about Ms. Goldberg is her hair.
I think that's what you call a "Whoopi Do"
Whoopi
September 8, 2007 - 07:53 ET by kiwikitOne thing about her with which I do disagree is her proud claim to have had SEVEN abortions! That was more than a decade ago so the number may have increased by now. I can not watch her although the first time I heard her, before her ranting began, I was impressed by her seeming intelligence. I have written to product manufacturers who've used her as their shill to tell them I'd never buy their product as long as she promoted it and I'd certainly never watch her perform. . . but then I'm not interested in 'girly' shows. Can't we all get along and consider each individual without gender?
The View
September 8, 2007 - 14:06 ET by Felicia LuceIMHO, I don't think the low ratings has anything to do with the fact that Whoopie is black. I think it has everything to do with The View. Is it just me, or is everyone sick of 'The View' drama? I think the credibility of the show, what there was, is gone. As for me, I am just sick of celebrities all together.
Stop global warming. Ball-gag a liberal.

September 8, 2007 - 15:27 ET by fitzfongBefore Rosie's meltdown, the View was just an irrelevant "gab-fest" watched only by the Peg Bundys of the world. Then Rosie had that flap with the most untalented and irritating person in the world (Kelly Ripa) over the Clay Aitken "I don't know where that's been" incident. All of a sudden, networks are covering every Rosie outburst. The unintended consequence was that the media coverage generated increased ratings for the show. Rosie, though, never knowing when to quit while she's ahead, increased the anger and paranoia in her outbursts. Curiousity over what Rosie would say next generated a temporary ratings spike...but you only need to see a train wreck once before your curiousity is satisfied. The law of diminishing returns kicked in...as the daily rantings of a lunatic became less interesting and more sad every show. Now the View is back to being the irrelevant gab-fest for the Peg Bundys of the world.

September 8, 2007 - 15:48 ET by pocomocoNo! No! No! That’s not he reason for the “downward spiral”.
All Whoopi has to do is announce that she’s a lesbian, and those 1 million viewers will come prancing back.
Ya gotta be careful...
September 8, 2007 - 18:46 ET by m4ster chief...with people like the Whooper; when they think nobody is watching their pitiful shows, that's when they start doing outrageous things to call attention to themselves. So don't be surprised if the Whoop reconstitutes her bush-league humor...ahhh...you DO remember her "bush" joke don't you? Oh yes, she's just sooo intelligent... Mark my words, it's coming back. Let's just hope she keeps the object de humour concealed...I'd rather watch Helen Thomas gnawing on an ear of corn without her dentures.
