This Friday, TIME published a story about a 1996 painting of the Madonna by contemporary British artist Chris Ofili. ‘The Holy Virgin Mary’ is encrusted with elephant dung and surrounded by cutouts of female genitalia from porn magazines. It’s a degrading, insulting portrayal. Naturally, TIME published a color photo of it.
On the May 29 edition of CNN Newsroom, Carol Costello brought on Bill Nye to lecture conservatives about the supposed importance of climate change. Prior to the interview Costello introduced Nye as someone who is “ready to fight the haters,” and resorted to the usual liberal talking point: “Before we begin, I just want to say 97% of scientists say climate change is real and much of it is driven by man, so let's go on.”
The socialists at Salon.com are desperately responding to the creepy Bernie Sanders 1972 article about male and female rape fantasies. It’s satire, you haters! Katie McDonough explains“It’s an attempted critique of heteronormativity — a clumsy and weird-as-hell attempted critique of heteronormativity.”
Sanders is apparently excused for this gaffe by his record of supporting anti-rape bills, apparently unlike conservative Sanders critics, who couldn't possibly be anti-rape.
The New York Times' hypocrisy regarding displays of "offensive" religious imagery runs unabated, as shown in a Friday article on the sale of Chris Ofili's controversial painting "The Holy Virgin Mary," which shows the Virgin clotted with elephant dung -- accompanied by a photograph of the painting, despite the paper's smug declaration after the Charlie Hebdo massacre that it would not reprint a cartoon of Muhammad because it did not "publish images...deliberately intended to offend religious sensibilities."

After hailing the Marxist-flavored brand of "liberation theology" Catholicism in Latin America on its front page May 24, the New York Times demonstrated more strange new respect for religion of the left-wing variety, with an adulatory profile of Sister Megan Rice, imprisoned for breaking into a uranium-enriching facility and splattering the building "with blood and antiwar slogans," which the online headline benignly terms "anti-nuclear activism."
In a Tuesday post for Slate, lefty pundit Marcotte explored the religious right’s fascination with (and perhaps exploitation of) the Duggar family and how it might change in light of the Josh Duggar sexual-abuse scandal. “The Duggars' [religious] extremism elicited admiration and maybe a little envy among the ranks” of Christian conservatives, Marcotte commented, “but perhaps now Republicans will learn a lesson about the dangers of embracing religious extremists.”
Marcotte thinks the GOP’s affinity for the Duggars exemplifies the religious right’s misogynistic race to the bottom: “Just as urban liberals compete to see who can eat the most organic food and libertarian types race to see who can have the most polluting truck, Christian conservatives compete to see who can deny women's autonomy the hardest.”
Appearing on the Thursday edition of MSNBC’s The Last Word, The Nation's Katrina vanden Heuvel suggested that money in politics is discriminatory toward African-Americans: “Fifty years ago, African-Americans were discriminated against by poll taxes, literacy tests. Today, the skyrocketing costs of campaigns, including the super PACs you mentioned, these billionaires, have made everyday Americans rightful vote mean not a enough, mean too little.”
As CBS This Morning gave retiring Bob Schieffer a glowing send-off on Friday, the longtime Face the Nation moderator ripped the current media landscape: “Well, it's been turned upside down....we now don't know where people get their news, but what we do know is they're bombarded with information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most of the information is wrong and some of it wrong on purpose.”

On today's Morning Joe, when Scarborough raised the matter of Bernie Sanders having written that women fantasize about being raped, Mika Brzezinski repeatedly tried to shut him down and turn the page.
For its June 5 magazine issue, The Hollywood Reporter features a story on “Six of TV’s most provocative female comedians” that discussed everything from sexism, sex scenes, and pay equality.
With the likes of HBO star Lena Dunham and Comedy Central star Amy Schumer being two of the six comedians, it’s a safe bet to say the story would be a raunchy one. They didn’t disappoint. “I stopped wearing the nude patch after the first season of Girls…There’s not one guy who works on that show who hasn’t seen the inside of my vagina."
Former Newsweek and New York Times writer Matt Bai has a column at Yahoo spinning furiously against anyone suggesting the Clintons are too wealthy to be in touch with those “everyday Americans.” His headline was frank: “Hillary Clinton’s not like the rest of us? Good!”
Pro-amnesty activist Jorge Mario Cabrera, spokesman for an ostensibly non-partisan, non-profit organization in Los Angeles, let loose with full-throated partisan rage on MundoFox, in reaction to the latest federal court ruling blocking implementation of President Obama’s Executive Amnesty for upwards of five million unauthorized immigrants currently living in the country.
“The reason why we are in this problem is because of the anti-immigrants and the Republicans who initiated this lawsuit and put a stop to these programs. They have to be made to pay a very high price for this abuse that they have done to us,” raged Cabrera, in an interview with MundoFox.
Continuing the media narrative that climate change is the cause of flooding in Texas, NBC Nightly News did its part on Thursday night in not only accomplishing that but also linking climate change to the drought in California and a “weather whiplash” that’s being seen across the country. Anchor Lester Holt began by observing “[t]he relentless rain, while enormously destructive, seemed to have helped reverse years of drought in Texas” while Californians now “are wondering” if it’s their turn “for an abrupt weather whiplash of their own from dry to deluge.” Miguel Almaguer declared: “Scientists say climate change is exacerbating the wild swings.”
Chris Matthews has already scripted his dream scenario for the post-convention portion of the 2016 presidential race. Hillary Clinton is up 5 to 10 points in the polls and she selects, as a gracious move to prove she's about bringing all Americans together, Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) as her running mate.
Matthews offered this gem somewhat out of the blue during a segment on the May 28 edition of Hardball.
