Obama Contradicts Holder and Others on Iran's in-U.S. Terror Capability; Lauer Seemingly Clueless

By Tom Blumer | February 07, 2012 | 22:26

Tom Blumer's picture

In his pre-Super Bowl interview with Matt Lauer on Sunday, President Obama was asked the following question about Iran in light of the heightening tensions over its nuclear program and the possibility of an Israeli air strike: "(In repsonse) Do you fear that they will wage attacks within the United States on American soil?" Obama responded as follows: "We don't see any evidence that they have those intentions or capabilities right now."

Really? The President's statement directly goes against statements made recently by other government officials, up to and including Attorney General Eric Holder. Lauer, who is paid to look good while delivering the news and conducting interviews but not necessarily to deliver on substance, especially if it might disturb the American people before the Big Game, totally missed the contradiction. Fortunately, Ed Lasky at American Thinker didn't (internal links added by me):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

President Obama has a very serious short-term memory problem

As Josh Gerstein writes in Politico, "Obama's statement was a curious one, since an intelligence community assessment that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper presented to Congress last week said that some Iranian leaders "are now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States in response to real or perceived U.S. actions that threaten the regime."

Gerstein notes only one problem behind Obama's cheery assessment. "There is one more significant issue that reveals a great deal about Obama's mindset. America just a few months ago was subject to an Iranian plot to kill the Saudi Ambassador and attack the Israeli Embassy here in America. The attack on the Saudi Ambassador was to take place in a public spot, killing Americans along side the Ambassador. Yet, Obama says "we don't see any evidence that they have those intentions or capabilities right now." Obama's own officials believe that Iran was behind this plot.

CNN reported back in November, for example (that) "U.S. agents disrupted an Iranian assassination-for-hire scheme targeting Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States, U.S. officials said Tuesday. Elements of the Iranian government directed the alleged plan, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said."

... Perhaps if one lived in Barack Obama's fantasy land there are no problems with Iran.

... What exactly does he do all day? Does he read the news? Or does he just sit around all day checking off boxes on memos sent to the Oval Office?

The rest of the media has, as expected, been completely incurious. Just two examples:

  • An unbylined Associated Press report only dealt with Obama's views on the upcoming game.
  • At USA Today, Aamer Madhani mentioned other Iran-related questions Obama answered, but not the one about possible attacks on U.S. soil.

Matt Lauer had a chance to follow up on Obama's (take your pick) memory lapse, frighteningly uninformed naivete, or flat-out falsehood and failed, leaving Lasky's disturbing questions wide open. It's virtually unthinkable to imagine that he would have let a contradiction like Obama's slide had he been interviewing a Republican or conservative president.

Listen, the guy never heard

Submitted by killa37 on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 11:04pm.

Listen, the guy never heard Rev. Wright...............he thought Ayers was some guy in the neighborhood, walking his dog...........
he read about Fast & Furious in the paper, just like the rest of us...............he doesn't know anything about Solyndra............ he thinks Hawaii is in Asia............and that Georgia is actually Russia..................and - do I need to keep going ???

Fact of the matter is this - they guy is delusional, and has been for his whole pathetic life - and he won the jackpot by becoming the President of this country...........and the only thing that matters to him, besides what he can gain from his position, is that his anti-American, anti-freedom, anti-capitalism, anti-lilbery agenda is carried out - in whatever way it can be.

I saw him up there crowing about 'getting' these Iranian so-called assassins............I believe it was the same day that (With)Holder was being served about F&F...........which neither one of them knew anything about beforehand. But now, Iran isn't really much of a threat - although I just read about Barry being petulant with Netenyahu for what Israel might do to protect their existence. But Barry wants to TALK............he thinks that will work, just like every other damn thing he's flapped his big purple lips about.

FUBO IS FUBAR!!!

Obama's learning on the job?

Well, he said he was.

Of course, we know better.

I hoping that if the red phone rings at 3:00 AM, that Hillary answers it.

Hope the First Lady doesn't mind.

Presents vs Presence

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 12:57pm.

Methinks this Alinksyite drone thought that when he voted "Present" he didn't mean that he was existentially "here", but rather more in terms of, "Present? Sure, I'd love to have one; send it over here!"

This seems to sum up his entire adult(????) political life -- an endless process of glomming onto one present after another with his power-grasping little forepaws.

The only real "presence" of which he seems remotely aware is that which blankly stares back at him in the mirror.

"Ye canne change the laws of physics....." but some politicians believe that with the right legislation you can pretend they don't really apply to your own pet projects...

Clueless

Submitted by John21 on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 8:50am.

You are surprised that Mr. Lauer is clueless? Mr. Lauer has spent most of his journalistic career in that stage.
Have you watched any of his interviews, have you ever seen him conduct a good honest discussion with anyone? He rarely is current with the topics of an interview. A recording of questions would perform just as well and get the same responses. He almost never challeges any statement made during an interview

Lauer the lightweight

Submitted by Herbster on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 9:21am.

What did you expect - a hard hitting interview from this twit? Fortunately, I missed this ppart of the run up to the Super Bowl - which really wasn't "Super" since the Steelers weren't playing. Did anyone think that the current occupant of the White House would be asked tough questions? Does anyone - beside me - think that the occupant either sees, approves, or reviews the "Spontaneous questions" from the enablers known as the media? Let's see....Brian bow down, little David G., Matt Lapdog, do the interviews. Tough stuff. I did see a clip from Lapdog's interview where the occupant complained that the Founding Fathers prevented him fro "Getting things done." Don't worry. If he is re-elected, Constitution trampling, with the tacit approval of the repubs like McCain, butt boy Graham, Scott Brown, etc., will be the order of the day - or should I say, executive order of the day? The trashing of the Constitution is now the PC thing to push. The senile one on the Supreme Court, the NY Times, MSNBC and the occupant himself are putting out the daily e-mails and faxes to the media minions to start pushing for the rewrite of the greatest document ever written. Be VERY afraid. Remember, without the Second Amendment, there will be no First Amendment.

We live in dangerous times. I hear people say, "It can't happen here." Unfortunately, it is already happening.

Don't blame me - blame the beach

Submitted by Farley on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 10:29am.

President Obama admits says his worst trait is that he’s a little bit lazy and blames his Aloha State upbringing for his penchant for taking it easy.

In his interview with Barbara Walters that airs Friday night on ABC, Obama says, “there is a deep down, underneath all the work I do. I think there’s a laziness in me. It’s probably from, you know, growing up in Hawaii, and it’s sunny outside and sitting on the beach.”

I heard that little

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 1:39pm.

I heard that little snot-nosed, purple-lipped petulant punk say that, and he's full of crap - as he is on just about everything else. I've lived here a helluva lot longer than he ever did, and I know people from every race and creed over here - and being 'lazy' isn't something that comes with the turf. In fact, if anything - we've had to work more and work harder - for less pay - with less optimism for the future - since this phony-ass steamy pile of Kenyan Kow Krap was selected, elected, protected, injected, and infected...............

Lauer

Submitted by GW on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 10:47am.

I know it's scripted, but Lauer did a spot on Sesame Street where he interviewed Cookie Monster about how he has branched out into eating stuff besides cookies. Lauer announces, "You heard it here, first. Cookie Monster no longer eats cookies." Before Cookie Monster has the chance to correct him, I yell at the TV, "WRONG AGAIN, LAUER!!"

Too bad my 2-year-old broke the DVD before I could teach him to say that, too.

"What exactly does he do all day"?

Submitted by UpNorth on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 11:08am.

Well, not much, as can be seen if you look at his daily schedule.

If he isn't attending a fund raising event, or a democrat retreat somewhere, he doesn't really do much of anything.  His day usually starts at 10:30a.m. and ends somewhere after 4p.m.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.
