Rock Singer Shirley Manson Gets Church's Pig Wrestling Tradition Ended...But Loves Abortion

It’s become quite common to note that leftists see no intellectual clash between ardent activism against “animal cruelty” and passionate “pro-choice” activism advocating “fetus cruelty.” See Shirley Manson, the lead singer of the rock band Garbage.

Mary Spicuzza at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish in the small Wisconsin town of Stephensville (near Appleton and Green Bay) has ended its decades-long tradition of a pig wrestling event after “more than 81,000 people signed an online petition expressing concerns for the animals' well-being.”

Among those outraged by this contest were celebrities, including Shirley Manson, who said, "Wisconsin has a special place in my heart since my band Garbage got its start there. We are better than this unnecessary and abusive activity."

She also stated: “I am so disturbed to learn from my friends at The Humane Society of the United States that St. Patrick’s Parish is planning a contest in which pigs are punched in the face, kicked, body-slammed, jumped on, and thrown into a bucket. Pigs are exceptionally intelligent animals who deserve to be treated with love and care."

Garbage was founded by Butch Vig, an esteemed record producer long based in Madison. Manson is Scottish, but now lives in Los Angeles.

In 2004, Manson was quoted at Contact Music attacking President Bush for his apparently odious stance on abortion:

What a sad state of affairs. It truly blows my mind that America has embraced this administration.

I just want to take this opportunity to re-emphasis [sic] how the current political climate in the US threatens to screw with women's rights around the world.

Please I implore you girls, women, women-loving men, please try to practice empathy and support a women's right to control her own body.

It may not affect you personally in your lifetime but please, please, please think about what 'choice' actually means and how we must stand up and protect that basic right for every woman, man and child on this earth because if we don't, sooner or later - over one thing or another - they're gonna be coming looking for you.

A pig is an intelligent animal who doesn't deserve to be wrestled. A "fetus" apparently isn't a human or even an animal that deserves compassion.
