Lady Gaga: Pope's View of Gays 'Does Not Matter to the World'
Alison Maloney of The Sun (UK) reported that pop star Lady Gaga dismissed Pope Benedict XVI as irrelevant to the world on her pet issue of gay marriage in a radio interview Monday. “I think that gay marriage is going to happen. It must. We are not actually equal—humanity—if we are not allowed to freely love one another, she announced. “What the Pope thinks of being gay does not matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope. It is not a reflection of all religious people.”
Sadly, Maloney described Gaga as “the Catholic singer, a long-time defender of gay rights”. But isn’t it quite clear from the quote that she is not someone who follows the Pope? So by definition, she’s not Catholic.
Except of course, gays working to “educate” the media want to turn this upside down. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation asked “Does Lady Gaga Represent Catholics Better Than the Pope?” GLAAD cites a ppoll that says Catholics favor gay marriage, and ignores the idea that Catholics are supposed to accept papal teaching instead of the Pope letting Gallup decide church doctrine.
Last Friday, Pope Benedict XVI told French bishops: “Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature, since whatever is injurious to them is injurious to society itself.”
