Name That Party: WaPo Leaves Out the D In Maryland Scandal
"Gay marriage" advocates are probably delighted, but The Washington Post once again can't find any place to put a troublesome "D" next to the name of a Maryland state delegate charged with theft. Aaron Davis reported:
A young Prince George's [County] politician who seemed to embody Maryland's crisis of conscience over approving same-sex marriage was charged Friday with stealing campaign funds, in part to pay for her wedding.
Del. Tiffany T. Alston, 34, a little-known freshman state lawmaker before this spring, is charged with writing herself checks and cashing them to pay for at least $3,560 in expenses for her wedding day. According to the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor, she also wrote herself checks to help pay the salary of an employee in her law firm.
Alston's wedding, attended by some fellow lawmakers and sorority sisters, was derided this spring by some gay activists. With whispers and shrugs outside Annapolis hearing rooms, some said it was ironic that so close to the celebration of her own nuptials a lawmaker reversed course and opposed letting gays marry in Maryland.
Now, questions about that wedding threaten to bring down the rising Prince George's lawmaker as quickly as she burst into public view — and further tarnish a county and a state already racked this year by political scandals.
Among other charges detailed Friday in a five-count indictment filed in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Alston faces a charge of felony theft, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000. She also is charged with one count of misdemeanor theft, one count of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and two election law violations. The misdemeanor charge also carries a potential 18-month prison term.

"To pay for the wedding." How touching. My wife and I are going out to dinner tonight.....guess I'll embezzle a few bucks to cover the meal, (Including tax and tip!)
Oops. I forgot. I'm not a member of any "Protected" class. I'd end up at the Graybar Hotel for 90 days.

I loved Eddie Murphy in the movie, "Trading Places". I agree, it would be great if we all can use other people's money like they do. On that "Xmas" remark, if you ask any Greek speaking person, they will tell you that the greek letter representing the sound for the english dipthong, "Ch" is "X" (named, chi). That's why it's sometimes shortened to Xmas. You still may not like it, but at least you have an undertanding why they chose this spelling for a shortcut and not really a liberal spin to hide, "Christ" in Christmas.
Hmmm well I appreciate the Greeks and their

lettering especially since my brother was born there. However, I'll stick with keeping "Christ" in Christmas regardless of the reasoning. Thanks for lesson though and I'm feel more enlightened because of it. Wasn't it Socrates who stated and I'm paraphrasing "the older I get the more ignorant I feel?"

would know that PG County, MD is the red-headed, left-handed stepchild of that region. I'd equate it to the Oakland area of the SF Bay region. It should come as no surprise that they would elect someone of Ms Alston's caliber.

The woman is identified as a Democrat. There's a photo along the left side of the article that reads,
"(Mark Gail/WASHINGTON POST) - Del. Tiffany T. Alston (D-Prince George's) is charged with felony theft, misdemeanor theft, fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and two election law violations."
Perhaps the photo was included after this piece was done.

The online article also included a link to her bio, which is embedded in her name, which clearly mentions her political party membership. So, I would have to say that this isn't a case of the Post omitting her membership in the Democrat Party.

The Contrast

No one is saying that the politcal party of this woman can not be found. What is clear is the difference between how articles like this are written. If this was a Republican, it may have been mentioned at the beginning of the article and maybe actually another time in the body of the article. I have seen the contrast of how articles are written like this so many times, it is consistant.
