Daily Kos Writes 'In Defense of Sharia'

At the Daily Kos blog, the blogger known as SixDollarLiberal created a ruckus on Wednesday by titling an article “In Defense of Sharia.” You know the article was a bad idea when it began with the disclaimer “I was raised a Christian, and became an atheist/agnostic as an adult. I have a much better understanding of Christianity than of Islam. If I get anything wrong in this, please feel free to correct me in the comments section.”

S.D.L. doesn’t explicitly defend Sharia law, but suggests that hey, Islam has some extreme tenets that most moderate Muslims don’t follow, just like Christianity has some wild old practices as dictated by the Old Testament about stoning adulterers and so on. So S.D.L. thought let’s be fair and balanced: “We don't call out Christianity for being a very violent religion that calls upon the execution of women, children, and homosexuals; so let's not do it to Islam either.”

The main argument is here:

American Muslims is this country came here themselves, or their ancestors before them did, not because they wanted to supplant American law with Sharia; they came because they wanted the freedom that American law entails. They are Muslims, yes, but they are also American; and they understand that in this country, the laws passed by the government come before the laws of their religion.

Christianity too has a lot of extreme laws that would be outlandish by today's standards. Many Christians still believe in God's law as laid out in the Old Testament, but as Lawrence O' Donnell has explained on his show; Christians do not follow the most extreme practices. Some are still behind the times and follow some outlandish traditions, but women and children are not being stoned in the streets. Just because the Bible has some really harsh traditions in it, doesn't mean we force Christians to disavow God's law. We don't call out Christianity for being a very violent religion that calls upon the execution of women, children, and homosexuals; so let's not do it to Islam either. Let's try to understand each other and cohabitate this country; not try to purge each other because of our different backgrounds and beliefs.

Worst of all here, S.D.L. doesn' t really acknowledge that there are American Muslims who came here to take the fight to the Christian "infidel" (Faisal Shahzad, Najibullah Zazi, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, and most effectively, Nidal Malik Hassan), and it can't really be said there are a similar band of Christians organizing to blow up innocent Muslim "infidels" in America.

Also on Daily Kos, as recommended by the addled Sharia-defender: "Raised Christian? Harmed by Christianity? Tell Your Story."

He suggests that hey, Islam

That's all very nice to say, but Muslims actually DO still stone adulterers (well adulterous women anyway) and perform "honor killings" (also of women)......and, as Tim points out,  practice the killing of infidels and anyone who leaves Islam....

But what the heck,  for the most part, it's a religion of peace, right?

they now have women slaves!

"Christianity too has a lot of extreme laws that would be outlandish by today's standards"

Therein lies the difference between Islam and Christianity.  Christians long ago reformed many of their "extreme laws" and 'outlandish" practices because times do change.

Islam, on the other hand, is still stuck in the Dark Ages.  They will remain stuck in the past until they are destroyed unless their religion goes through similar changes that Christianity went through hundreds of years ago.

So you are an atheist?  Drag your little ass over to the middle east and start telling the imams how much you dislike their concept of Allah and lets see how long you last, moron.  Should make a great reality show on TV.

I argued with a libtard of the extreme variety that tried to use this same example. I really need them to find the passage where Christ called for the deaths of men, women, and children, because I can't find it.

Sad story

Submitted by Radical1979 on Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:02pm.

A young woman was raped and murdered by a young man she worked with. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. One of her relatives was quoted as saying that he should be killed because under muslim law anyone who commits rape or murder is sentenced to death.

No other religion demands that their religious beliefs should be adhered to in a court of law. In fact religious beliefs that teach homosexuality is a sin are now contradicted in public schools that teach "diversity".

Muslims are going to demand Sharia Law here. Soon. Very soon.

Is there a political corollary to Poe's Law?

Submitted by Phryj1 on Sat, 06/04/2011 - 4:06pm.

Because with sites like Daily Kos, I don't think it's actually possible to parody radical leftism. No matter how extreme or completely over the top a satire of the left is, somewhere there are radical leftist types who actually think it's a good idea.

That's why there's no politically opposite counterpart to Stephen Colbert. No matter how creative, talented, or funny someone portraying a fake liberal/progressive/democrat could possibly be, you'd have plenty of actual left-wingers who actually think like him/her.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

Under sharia law women are PROPERTY. But that's OK with KOS.

Coming from a political party who elected a Ku Klux Klan OFFICER as their leader for a decade, such bigotry and misogyny isn't surprising.

CANDIDATE Obama: 'Yes, we CAN'.

PRESIDENT Obama: 'BECAUSE we CAN'.
