Daily Kos: Palin the Enemy of 'Intelligence, Literacy, Expertise, Language, Spelling, and Truth'

By Tim Graham | November 20, 2010 | 09:09

Tim Graham's picture

In the New York Daily News on Wednesday, S.E. Cupp theorized "The reason Palin has become such a lightening [sic] rod, a kingmaker and a punching bag, a celebrity and a power player, is simple. It's because she's so gosh darn happy. For her fans, like the ones I had the pleasure of meeting in Chicago, she's refreshingly upbeat and resilient, the bubbly friend from childhood who was always great at cheering you up and cheerleading you on. But for her detractors, nothing raises the ire of cynical liberals more than a happy-go-lucky, totally unburdened, freethinking and self-assured conservative woman who has everything she wants and then some. And without anyone's help."

Naturally, this drew protests from the lefties at the Daily Kos, who imagine themselves as the Guardians of Truth against those conservative "rubes" who can barely read (and their New York Daily News supporters). On Friday afternoon, the blogger with the handle "Zagrobelny" trashed Cupp (and her "Wonder Woman" publicity photos) for "boundless stupidity" in championing Palin: "my expectations were not disappointed, my faith in literacy and intelligence were." Palin is apparently the enemy of all attempts at literacy and intelligence:

What really raises the ire of this cynical liberal is not that Sarah Palin is happy-go-lucky, but that she happily and cynically goes around trashing people and issues held deal by liberals.  This doesn't just happen with programs and issues liberals advocate, but she trashes fundamental concepts: intelligence, literacy, expertise, language, spelling, and truth. And she does it all with a wink while she rakes in the money of those ecstatic rubes that Cupp attempts to praise in the opening of her piece. [Italics in the original.]

Perhaps the most priceless part of this rant is Zagrobelny complaining about why would liberals be cynically accused of wanting to keep people down with Big Government, and why would conservatives project their cynicism on to others? This would make a regular conservative reader of the Kosmonauts wonder if Zagrobelny somehow miraculously avoids reading everyone else in the Kos crowd. Assuming conservatives actually, cynically favor every vicious thing is Daily Kos modus operandi.

Why this would raise "the ire of cynical liberals" is not explained.  It never is.  It is just assumed.  Why would we want to keep people down?  Why would we advocate "big government" and social programs if we didn't actually want to pull people up?  The real cynics are those who are unable to understand empathy and selflessness and project their cynicism onto others.  They assume every issue and program has some kind of conspiratorial agenda, usually some kind of scheme to purchase votes.

PS: The Kosmonaut attacks Cupp's writing: "her prose is so leaden and clumsy instead of describing the excitement of good-hearted folk, it reads like a horrific frenzied bacchanal." Um, no, it doesn't. It doesn't sound like anyone is drunk on Palin power.

Until I double checked and saw the words "Sarah Palin" and "trashing liberals" I thought he was talking about Joe Biden.

Submitted by merly1 on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 9:30am.

These fools lost all credibility in  2004 when portraying Kerry as the "intellectual" candidate.
Only after the election did we learn that Kerry had the LOWER GPA at college.
Reagan, W, Palin etc are always attacked as being dummies, which is really a pathetic, even ridiculous, argument.   All are overachievers in society, and look at Palin from Mayor to Governor to best selling author to TV hit show etc etc and etc. She has probably made 20 million in the last year.   We should all be so "dumb."   The libs wonder why we laugh at their idiocy?   Well, if one wants respect, argue on issues, not "she is so stupid..." 1st grade level debate.   And as always, we will ever see "genius" Obama's college transcript, he of 57 states, corpseman, seeing dead people, Cominskey part, etc etc  Not while in office...........

Yeah, I had a couple of relitives who told me back in the 90's that studies had proven that Ronald Reagan was so dumb he was incapable of writing well, nor performing research.

Then a couple years later a book of his letters to friends and acquaintences was released which proved he was not only a very thoughtful man but well read and wrote beautifully.  It is well known that he researched the Death Valley Days scripts, and performed the research for his ground breaking early speeches in the 60's and 70's.

I imagine in the near future when it is discovered that Obama did not actually write anything nor edit anyone elses work while acting as the prestigious editor of the law review it will be swept under the rug by all these same liberals.  Rather than doing the work, I suspect it will be found that he considered it to be an honorary position.

Liberals get elected, as Democrats, for the most part because:

1.   They lie
2.   They run as moderates
3.   They lie again
4.   They cheat
5.   They lie some more
6.   They steal
7.   They lie about lying, saying "I was misquoted", or, "My words were taken out of context."

and because,

8.   The rare Republican politico who does not engage in the above practices, refuses to call
       out the Dems who do.

Liberal ideology figures quite heavily into the equation as well.

Other than that, I guess the rest of the cracks in the lib voting foundation are filled in by those in the entitlement classes, such as the welfare weenies, who believe wrongly, thanks to liberal babying, that there is indeed such a thing as a free lunch.

Intelligence? yeah right

Submitted by hungarianfalcon on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 10:08am.

Exhibit A in the lack of intelligence by libs should be documents like the proposed rule on GHG from the EPA (Can't speak for the actual law in congress).  That document was pathetic- 10s of carveouts for specific industries (coal vs adipic acid vs concrete vs etc).  The various contortions that the EPA rule expected industry to comply to was so utterly assinine compared to what was really needed to get the job done.  Besides, is one industry's CO2 any different than another?  That rule was less about improving the environment and more about establishing another shakedown mechanism where DC could play kingmaker.

On top of that, the littany of test procedures they provided industry to ensure compliance omitted some key, essential analytical techniques (i.e. there were no test procedures that specifically utilized mass spectrometry).

Intelligence? Truth? Bahahahah!

Submitted by Tenebrous on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 10:32am.

Oh man. I almost laughed out loud at that paragraph. This guy thinks that liberals believe in a truth external to themselves -- that is, that there even is such a thing? How is that possible, from the "fake but accurate" crowd? That was first floated on DKos, wasn't it? And what sort of truth do liberals believe in, when they vote in mass for the serial liars of Clinton (both), Kerry, and Obama?

And intelligence? Liberals are sooo verrryy smart that they must pass a bill to know what's in it? That they redefine what "is" is? That they can't see the threat of Islam? That they take the side of people who want to kill them?

No, liberals are anything but smart, and they sure don't believe in any truth outside of whatever they hold sacred as of this second.

Elitist Snobbery At Its Apex

Submitted by Maestroh on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 10:43am.

Gotta love this one. Personally, I love how they all get their collective panties in a wad about Sarah Palin - but ASK one of them to name a SPECIFIC reason they don't like her and not one of them can give a coherent reason. "She's dumb." On what standard? "She's a religious nut." Allegedly, so is our current President (but liberals suspect deep down it's all window dressing anyway). Seriously - for 2 years not one of them has given me a coherent reason they hate Palin that could not equally be applied to their "Messiah." So let's take it apart.

What really raises the ire of this cynical liberal is not that Sarah Palin is happy-go-lucky, but that she happily and cynically goes around trashing people and issues held deal by liberals.

Oh..like liberals DON'T trash conservatives? Ever heard of Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, Ronald Reagan or GW Bush?

This doesn't just happen with programs and issues liberals advocate, but she trashes fundamental concepts: intelligence, literacy, expertise, language, spelling, and truth.

Can this joker show me where Sarah Palin has EVER said anything like "intelligence is overrated" or "we should all be illiterate" or anything of the sort? I guess this would be an unproven assertion then, wouldn't it?

And she does it all with a wink while she rakes in the money of those ecstatic rubes that Cupp attempts to praise in the opening of her piece.

"Rubes?" Isn't that little more than ad hominem by a snob? The punk who wrote this better get a concept through his (or her) numb cranium - just because you went to an Ivy League school does not give you the right to tell me what to do and how to think.

can't stand happiness

Submitted by wizardjr on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 10:44am.

As Rush and others have to elequently pointed out, libtards suffer from hate... self hate, hate of others, hate and just plain hate. They are the unhappiest people on the planet. So it drives them absolutely bonkers when someone like Governor Palin shows up and they do their best to destroy her and then the next time you see her she's smiliing and having a good time.

Ahhhhhh! Run away!!! Happy People!!! OMG, kill it, destroy it!

For libtards that I've 'seen' all over the blogs life is a $hit sandwich and only government can do something about it because we weak infallable humans are the cause of all this unhappiness. The happy people have 'stolen' the happiness from others. It must be so. They have tried to be happy but they can't manage it so "neo-cons" MUST have stolen happiness.

The poor deluded fools just cannot get around to seeing that it's their own insanity that causes them such pain and unhappiness. Well that's part of being insane, insn't it - the inability to see that you ARE insane. Pity them, but keep your back to the wall. They get viscious when thwarted.

Wizard: You are correct,

Submitted by BD on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 11:21am.

Wizard:

You are correct, self loathing is key to most liberals sense of identity.

In the 1980's I had many liberals bitch at me for my sense of "Ethnocentrism" and complain that I was not well rounded because I still adopted most western mores.

Just the other night while watching TV I saw the ultimate example of such self loathing in the form of a guy named Fenstermacker who was advocating releasing all the detainees at Gitmo because of obvious transgressions by the US government there.  His moronic view coupled with self loathing extends to point that he believed nearly everything wrong in the world today is the US fault and that people like Ghailani should be released.

After all, terrorism is our own fault due to our actions.

Guys like that need to be locked up in a room with the editorial staff of the New York Times and the detainees from GITMO who are then offered machetes and carte blanch to begin the massacre.  Karma baby....

In trite fashion, the enemies

Submitted by Ashrak on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 3:10pm.

In trite fashion, the enemies of individual freedom and Liberty have but one trick atop their pony.

From blogger to candidate, they attack the messenger because they have no substance with which to defeat the message.

This method has worn thin these days because it succeeded more in the last to election cycles than at any other time since the Carter years.

The realization has finally hit many in the squishy middle. Opposition may well be enough to win elections sometimes, but opposition itself cannot lead. Such is the Obama Pres__ency defined.

Says it all, doesn't it?

Submitted by KC Mulville on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 4:04pm.

Sarah Palin trashes truth?

Let me detour into philosophy, briefly.

  1. Truth is always disputable. It can never be proved definitively. That's because of the nature of proof. All proof is a comparison of something suspicious to something trusted, meaning that in every act of proof, at least one term has to be assumed to be true. Well, what if you want to prove the assumption? Same rule applies: to prove it, you have to compare it to something else you assume to be true. Every time you try to prove one assumption, you have to rely on some other assumption. You never get to a point where you take nothing for granted. You always have to take something for granted (i.e., you assume it to be true without proving it). Mathematicians call them axioms: they're just taken for granted, and you use them to prove other statements, but they themselves can't be proved. That's why truth can never be absolute.
  2. English is a language where, by the act of asserting a statement, the speaker implicitly claims it is true. Examine this sentence: "It is true that snow is white." Now, there's no difference between that sentence and simply, "Snow is white." Adding the four words "It is true that ..." actually adds nothing to the sentence. Every assertion already claims itself to be true, so to speak. (In contrast, "symbolic logic" is a language where truth, quantification, and assertion can be artificially separated. Normal English mushes them together.)

Because of these two tenets, philosophers argue that when you say, "That's true!" all you're really saying is that you agree with it. In essence, truth is taking sides. "Count me among those who agree."

Now, when you understand that, you have no choice but to abandon intellectual bigotry. You can't still claim that you absolutely know The Truth, and therefore anyone who disagrees with you must be stupid or evil or insane. The best you can do is to take your best shot, defend it as best you can, but never disparage or "trash" those who think differently, just because they think differently. (Of course, you can disparage them for deliberate dishonesty, or you can attack their obfuscations, but you can't insult them merely because they disagree.)

This "Kosmonaut" doesn't merely disagree with Palin. He imagines that Palin opposes Truth. He claims that Palin trashes Intelligence. That's because he has absolutized his own beliefs into Truth, and therefore all opposition to his beliefs is an attack on Truth itself.

So, the KOSmonuts hate Sarah Palin because she trashes the glittering "concepts" we all know elitists, snotty leftists hold so dear to their angry hearts. I guess these are the "concepts" that force them on their knees when it comes to Obama;

Intelligence- Cash for Clunkers, spending your way out of debt, ignoring major oil spills for 2 months, blame Bush, blame Bush, blame bush....

Literacy- never reviewed a book while at the Harvard Law Review, took money for a book he never wrote, pronounces "corpsman" as corpseman...

Expertise- race-agitating,extortionist community organizer,  2 years as a bored Senator voting "present", thinks the country he thought he wanted to be President of consists of 57 States...

Language- ummmm, uhhhhhh, let me be clear, uhhhhhhh, is this thing on?.....ahhhhhh,where's my teleprompter?...

Spelling- spells Syracuse wrong on his Basketball bracket March Madness picks, spells "advise" wrong in letter to fan (if he actually ever writes anything at all)....

Truth- As Donnie Brasco would say, "Forget about it!".
