 Seems to me the only pointless moralizing is her screed....or should I say pointless immoralizing?

With Roman Polanski back in town NO teenage girl is safe. So newsweek is correct - just a matter of the consent issue.  But then newsweek came out for legalized drugs so..it won't be Rape Rape. Just the death of a civil society and simple rape. Thanks Woopie!

Really? we're mad about people endorsing birth control over abstinence? i for one think that teens will have sex no matter what we do, might as well try to get them to avoid having children or spreading diseases. We have a wide open border of people streaming cross this border and a majority of them becoming young unwed mothers. why can some in our country have sex and not get pregnant but the uneducated seem to pump out children like it's a part time job? education on birth control. 

I think she's partially right: teenagers ARE going to have sex.  not all of them, but many of them.  but that doesn't mean we should just completely give up, does it?  I mean, a lot of people are also probably going to murder someone, but do we just shrug and say "Oh well, what are you gonna do?" of course not.

what's most objectionable to me is NewsWeak's attitude. there are many good reasons for teenagers to avoid pregnancy, but according to this "magazine," the main reason is that it's really just NOT COOL not to be having sex.

 altho' I do wonder:  when teens see their hopelessly liberal parents trying so vainly to be so hip, do they cringe a little and decide that maybe sex isn't that cool after all, if these losers are trying to help me get some? let's hope.

Whether it is health care or sex it is amazing how far we have fallen in this country in just 40 years. Up until the mid-sixties to the 70’s teens for the most part did abstain from sex, but it wasn’t abstinence, sex was not a major concern in a teenager’s life then.

In those years prior to the 70’s adults tried to keep children under 18 as innocent about the world as possible. Then at 18 they were deemed adults. Sex was absent from TV shows, advertising, there was no internet or internet porn. That was the great thing about growing up then. They truly were “Happy Days.”

Of course then came the seventies, birth control, the no bra look, Charlie’s Angels, Three’s Company, etc, and the road has been downhill from there to the point where some think there should be sex education for kindergartners.

“Let's face it. Teenagers are going to have sex.” Yea, if they are exposed to it 24/7 as they are now. “They always have, they always will.” No, not true.

People are going to smoke. Trying to convince people to quit smoking is like trying to get the Pope to wear a Speedo.

 People are going to overeat and sit on their asses and watch TV all day. Trying to convince people to eat sensibly and exercise is like trying to get the Pope to wear a Speedo.

Lushes are going to drive. Trying to convince people not to drive drunk is like trying to get the Pope to wear a Speedo.

Hm... whaddaya think? 

Connolly and the other anti-family leftists at Newsweek and elsewhere should keep themselves, NAMBLA, their adored friend Roman Polanski and their anti-family, leftist atheist religious cult, out of the bedrooms of other people's children.

Once upon a time, the stuff we saw courtesy of National Geographic was exotic, sometimes shocking...now it's just down the street.

The people who argue that nothing can be done, that teens will have sex demonstrate their low opinion of youth. The same people have a low opinion of minorities (that they are helpless without government), a low opinion of gun owners (guns make people crazy killers), and so on. These low opinions devolve from a lack of absolute ethics for themselves which translates into making excuses for every perversity under the sun so that no-one can call them to account for their own immorality.    

They have no clue about history and reference to the past only confuses them, because for them, there is no history prior to yesterday. Thus it is not illogical for a liberal to claim that "everyone in the 1950's had sex before marriage" because the liberal is wholly unfamiliar with other times and assumes they are just like his or her current reality. 

Liberalism is simply institutional ignorance, which is why when pressed to defend it, its proponents always look silly. They argue from a lack of knowledge and to look like they are winning, they must call names as a distraction.
