This reporter is a real tool. He/she fails to understand that it does not matter how much in need the Somali "pirates" may be. It does not matter how "nice" they are to the the ship crews they hold hostage. The "pirates" are threatening the lives of the ship crews and extorting other countries and ship owners. Their actions are against both the law and moral decency.

He/she writes a "sympathy" piece and then wonders why clear thinking people are outraged by it. How about pointing out early on that no matter what their personal circumstances and needs may be the Somali "pirates" are committing illegal and immoral acts.

What the reporter should blame the actions of the "pirates" on is the breakdown of the government in Somali. And, while they are at it he/she should mention that during the Clinton Administration, Somalis attacked American troops attempting to provide humanitarian aid, and, in the process, dragging at least one dead American soldier naked through the streets.

Why doesn't the reporter instead chide the Somalis for not standing up against the lawlessness overrunning their country? Why not chide the Somali warlords or whatever they call themselves for oppressing the other Somalis for their own selfishness and greed?

My guess is that he/she instead of doing real journalism would find some way to portray the guilty Somalis as somehow justified in those heinous acts, too.
