The Washington Post's Palin/Biden contrast is also reliably stark. This Saturday's headline: "McCain Picks Alaska Governor; Palin First Woman on GOP Ticket: Democrats Insist Running Mate Lacks Experience."
Last Saturday's headline was all what Democrats preferred: "Obama Calls His Pick, Biden, Both a Statesman and Fighter." (No subhead for what Republicans said.)
The captions under the pictures? For Palin: "Sen. John McCain said Sarah Palin, a conservative with strong antiabortion views, could best help him 'shake up Washington.'"
For Biden: "Barack and Michelle Obama, along with Jill and Joseph Biden, on the steps of the old statehouse in Springfield."
Labels in the front-page copy? Once again, for Palin: "The self-described 'hockey mom' brings a blue-collar conservatism and strong antiabortion views to the ticket and appeals to a party base somewhat suspicious of McCain."
But not for Biden: He "brought an infusion of experience and aggressiveness to the Democratic ticket....Biden, 65, a sharp-witted and energetic foreign policy expert who has held two of the most critical Senate chairmanships, bounded out onto the stage just after 2 p.m. Central time."
The pictures were roughly the same size, but if you wanted to get picky, the Obamas-and-Bidens picture was nicely posed. The Palin fist-pump shot is nice of her, but also includes McCain in the background with a forced-looking half-smile.

Pretty sad when a politian
August 30, 2008 - 14:32 ET by ThisnThatPretty sad when a politian can't garner even 1,000,000 votes over a 38-year career, isn't it? And by the way -- how many people has Biden governed? Why isn't that on your list? Seems that your list is pretty selective and slanted, isn't it?
And, your numbers only show that Biden is a small fish in a small pond. Alaska has 3 electoral votes. Want to know how many Delaware has?? -- exactly 3.
Now, while you are at it -- why don't you do the comparison of Obama and Palin? You will see that Obama is far behind in that comparison of experience and relevance to the country.

Does Delaware one of the smallest states have a larger population than Alaska?

August 31, 2008 - 23:27 ET by Dan The Man 2All it shows is what grades you made. McCain's character was tested in the Hanoi Hilton and found to be A+. You make the mistake of looking at the school and grades to judge ones character. It does have some input but in McCain's case not too much. Another character kudos is his notching down the convention activities in response to the hurricane.

August 30, 2008 - 16:32 ET by RainsfordSo, I guess poptech is assuming, before running for her first office, she lived in a cocoon that she only emerged from to mate and run for pageants? Last time I checked, our President was always intended to be someone who understood peoples problems and could fix them, not a life-long politican. The other point you are totally missing is accomplishments. Lincoln was a political newcomer, but did pretty well. Palin's only been in politics for about 10 years, but has totally fixed a state that was one of the most curropt in the country.
It's kind of sad to see people on here who make decisions like robots, where you enter a few pieces of information and a choice is made. Maybe grow a brain and actually look at what the politicans have done since being in office?

Blazer - I don't agree that Ron Paul was a truther
August 30, 2008 - 17:34 ET by Dee Bunkin fact I saw him specifically denounce them on more than one occasion. I never had all the facts (and I don't want them) about the anti-semitic claim. I tend to discount most "racist" "bigot' "anti Semite" "homophobic" claims because most are extremely bogus and false. I usually only use those terms against people who use them on others.
Unless Ron Paul clearly said "I hate Jews" or "Israel has no right to exist and should be shoved into the Ocean" or something similar - I'd be hesitant to call him anti-semitic and even less likely to call someone anti-semitic just because they supported him.
We all have people we don't get along with here - it's inevitable but I wish people would avoid the liberal tactics of calling people racist etc... just because they don't like their positions. If you are going to call those kind of names - I wish it would be towards a liberal who falsely claims it of a conservative.
He hasn't said anything anti semitic
August 30, 2008 - 17:36 ET by sarcasmoQuite the contrary, actually, and people of all faiths -- including Jews -- supported Dr. Paul whether the Liar likes it or not. Many refutations of the lies have been posted on the 'net by me & others, so this is just proof of trolling dimwittery on the Liar's part.

sarc, I dont' honestly
August 31, 2008 - 09:00 ET by Blazersarc, I dont' honestly believe you are an anti-semite or a truther, and I believe I took that too far, so I apologise. There must have been something in the water around here yesterday, alot of heated comments going around.
With that said I believe it's no accident that Dr. Mengele, ....I mean Dr. Paul attracts the kind of supporters he does expressely "white supremacists" and "truthers". The man has a very questionable past when it comes to this also and thats a fact.
The man has accepted money from very nefarious sources and has been seen in the company of some very dark individuals and wrote for a newsletter that was rife with anti-semitism and racism, all facts.
At any rate its a moot point Ron Paul isn't even on the radar right now, but I believe he should run as a libertarian or independant.
I'm not gonna carry on this discussion any longer, like I said today's another day, have a great holiday weekend.
"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. "

" The Cake is a lie."
His supporters are diverse.
August 31, 2008 - 09:25 ET by sarcasmoAnd whether the antilibertarian biased media has made it known or not, the Doctor has taken full responsibility for those ancient newsletters dug up by the supposedly impartial (HA!) New Republic, despite the fact that he didn't write (a fact!) them. Libertarians like me think that racists have a right to be wrong.
In the media, that's often confused with condoning racism, which it's not. Racism is just an ugly form of collectivism, and that's the opposite of libertarianism. Dr. Paul is, as I've said from the beginning, a Republican congresscritter. He's guaranteed to be re-elected as one, and his might be a very essential vote for constantly complaining-conservatives right here in the coming 2 years. He's NOT any more likely to run for President than he is to endorse anyone else. He lost. He knows it even if not all of his supporters do.
Various "he'll run!!" predictions to the contrary are, sadly, never followed up with offers of $ bets, or by now I'd probably be quite a bit richer. I just wonder why an association with relatively soft core racists (third hand) somehow sticks to some politicians permanently, while certain other politicians (first hand!) are total racism-teflon, despite the hard-core bigotry of the much more famous racist in question.
It seems to me, from here, like an institutional bias in favor of politicians who want bigger & bigger government & against libertarians, but what do I know? I keep seeing antilibertarian bias everywhere others see "liberal" (whatever the word means today!) bias. Anyway, apology accepted. Let's move on.

Comparison Palin vs. Obama
August 30, 2008 - 16:40 ET by Parker1227Obama years of executive experience: ZERO!
Palin years of executive experience: 8.
The Palin choice is some very strong jujitsu. Every time someone on the left attacks Palin's lack of experience - they remind the whole country that the Dems' choice for the number one spot has even less experience.
Obama coasted through his state legislative years being given credit for other peoples' bills, and casting over 100 "present" votes instead of actually making tough decisions (like executives have to do every day).
He then lucked into a U.S. Senate seat due to Chicago dirty tricks (opening a sealed divorce file), and then proceeded to be absent from the U.S. Senate, and his committee responsibilities most of the time so he could run for president.
Basically, Obama has been running for president his whole life while actually achieving almost nothing.
He is the MOST professional politician in modern history - running on an anti-professional politician platform.

August 30, 2008 - 23:36 ET by mom_roxRegarding Sarah's bio, you forgot to add PTA mom, hockey mom and basketball coach.
According to Jack Cafferty, please add the "plus some caribou" to the Alaska population count.
Also, please add to Joe's bio that "he suspects he has a higher IQ than us". I'm sure Putin will be thoroughly impressed.

Does Newsbusters have a rule against spamming?
August 30, 2008 - 14:15 ET by Dee BunkBecause this is at least the third time I've seen this same post (or very very similar) of Poptech's and it's getting annoying that he's taking up so much space with the same thing over and over.
Can't these be deleted ? If he wants to say the exact same thing over and over he can link to his previous comments.
Spamming? - those be the candidates credentials
August 30, 2008 - 14:18 ET by PopularTechThis post is about comparing the VP picks - I just did.
You are cutting and pasting the same post - that's spamming
August 30, 2008 - 14:30 ET by Dee BunkIf you want to link to what you said previously - that is fine - what you are doing now is obnoxious. You are just trying to take up a lot of space on all the Palin threads.
What I am not allowed to give my opinion now?
August 30, 2008 - 14:33 ET by PopularTechThis thread is about VP Comparisons, I posted one.
Your opinion is fine - it's the cut and paste jobs that are not
August 30, 2008 - 14:36 ET by Dee Bunkit's obnoxious and I believe it's against the rules.
Should I make sure all my comments don't hurt your "feelings"?
August 30, 2008 - 14:41 ET by PopularTechShould I make sure all my comments don't hurt your "feelings"?
Who is talking about feelings? You are so desperate
August 30, 2008 - 15:50 ET by Dee BunkI'm talking about spamming cut and paste jobs in multiple places.
Pop Tech....
August 30, 2008 - 15:15 ET by motherbeltThis thread is not about a comparison of Biden's and Palin's qualifications. It is about the difference in the way the Washington Post treated their respective nominations.
I agree with Poptech
August 30, 2008 - 14:42 ET by jondelwicheIt is a story of one's life, and Palin is enough to get me
to vote for her ticket.
Self-made woman (i.e not Hillary), who has done it all:
wife, Mom (of an infantryman, too), worked in private sector,
appointed to state commission chair, won elections at every
level, actually BALANCES a budget, is an energy savant, so about time we get a real person to lead this great country.
Biden: as per Poppy is a phony-baloney CINO (Catholic in Name Only), telling us his leader isnt ready to be President, but "now" he is, who presides over a Senate that, correct me if I'm wrong, the closest they've come to a balanced budget in 7 years is what, 250-300 BILLION deficit now staring down a 500 BIL deficit.
PopTech wins me over, no problem: go Palin-McCain! I'm in.
Palin is the most qualified vs our Senate "stars," = McCain, Biden, Hillary, Obama, what is really their experience?
They play parliment games, help their breathen trial lawyers (ack!),
and wouldnt know a balanced budget from a hemorrhoid.
Please, bring on election day.........this is finally looking hopeful
Thank Mr. Pop ( i often forget Biden is a CINO)
Palin has Private Sector Experience?
August 30, 2008 - 14:53 ET by PopularTechProfessional Experience:
- First Place, Miss Wasilla Beauty Contest, 1984
- Second Place, Miss Alaska Pageant, 1984
- Television Sports Reporter, 1987-1989
Maybe this is a good sign...

August 30, 2008 - 16:34 ET by RainsfordSo you now totally disregard the fact that she did, in fact, have a regular, blue collar job? I guess in your strange world, only CEOs and Corporate Execs are allowed to list their jobs on their resumes.
Working at Walmart is not a qualification for VP
August 30, 2008 - 19:34 ET by PopularTechShe has no private sector experience. Yes CEOs and Corporate execs are a little different then working at Walmart. I have actual standards not the Huckabee guy next door ones. But hey Palin is qualified to work as a Sports Reporter!
wiping your butt is not a qualification

what part of governor don't you understand????
i think your misogynist tendancies are showing

you point is obtuse there oblio
"You can not support the Troops if you do not support their Mission"
Many politicians have experience with government budgets
August 30, 2008 - 20:26 ET by PopularTechThis is irrelevant to private sector economic experience or education, since government budgets are funded by taxes they have no concept of having to spend with in their means on a large scale. When they get in trouble they can always raise taxes ect...
My points are more relevant than you realize.
Hmmm
August 30, 2008 - 15:00 ET by jondelwicheIf one works for a TV station, that would
be the private sector, oui?
Am i wrong?
Now you just sound pathetically defensive.
And you did leave off she chaired a state commission, right?
Or am I wrong again?
Please, I was only thanking you for helping me see
why palin is a winner. Why the smokescreen Popman?
and really
August 30, 2008 - 15:05 ET by jondelwicheIf someone is a CINO, would you trust them?
Just go join some church that loves abortion.
i.e.
so was he telling the truth when
a) Obama wasnt ready to be President
b) Obama is ready to be President
a or b?
As with most lawyers, they speak from both sides of their mouth.
jondelwiche...I'll tell you
August 30, 2008 - 16:18 ET by motherbeltjondelwiche...I'll tell you the same thing I told PT, in case you missed it.
This thread was supposed to be about the difference in the way the Washington Post treated them; not about which is more qualified!
It's one thing for a thread to wander, but Pop Tech derailed this one right from the beginning (see the first comment).
Private sector
August 30, 2008 - 17:25 ET by easygoerOver at the NRO they're saying Palin ran a commercial fishing operation.
Loser spelled backwards is BIDEN
August 30, 2008 - 15:02 ET by GalvanicFor all of might Joe Biden's Senate experience over 35 years, he
1. Has not changed one thing in Washington, nor was he promising to in his latest White House bid. He merely wnated to spend in another direction.
2. Described Obama as being too inexperienced to be President.
3. Claims a net worth of -$300,000! After 35 years of lofty Senate salaries, a negative net worth suggests this bozo can't even manage his family let alone a national economy.
4. Has run for President twice, and couldn't garner more than single digits in support from Democrats. (The MSM still touts him as a 'great campaigner,' despite losing and being caught for plagerizing Neil Kninnock.)
I think Biden is hoping that Obama will get elected and die in office. That's the ONLY way he could ever become President.
I know little about Palin, but what I am learning is very positive. He reputation for actually having done some reforming vice merely speaking of it like Obama does -- is encouraging. I think the Biden-Palin debate will be far more interesting that the three Obama-McCain debates.
It's going to be a very interesting election after all!
Galvanic, I agree that
August 30, 2008 - 15:57 ET by Trix RabbitGalvanic,
I agree that the Palin-Biden debate will be interesting. I predict that Palin will clean Biden's clock because he has been, is now, and always will be a Washington parasite.
Despite Palin's faults, whatever they may be, after the Clinton years of painfully hideous women, i.e., Hitlery, Donna Shalala, Janet Reno, Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd, et al., Palin is certainly very easy on the eyes.

Milestone: Palin is First Woman on a GOP Ticket

"Conservative" is mentioned in the sub-headline and the jump page headline and two times in the article.
Biden Adds Grit for Obama
Expertise: Delaware senator skilled in foreign affairs
Fighter: Years in Senate harden campaign skills
Votes: Personal tragedies offer blue-collar appeal
"Liberal" is not used anywhere.
no respect: Palin's name is not even listed in the major headline.

The Drive-By media continue
August 30, 2008 - 19:41 ET by Rush FanThe Drive-By media continue to emphasize that Biden is a Catholic and therefore he will draw the Catholic vote. The media knows they are lying when they state that because Biden’s pro-choice stance on abortion conflicts with the Church’s teachings that life begins at conception. Consequently, Catholics who follow the teachings of the Church would not vote for a pro-choice candidate such as Biden.
The Drive-By media doesn't care whether it lies for it will sacrifice ethics and morals for the greater cause: The Election Of a Democrat to the Presidency of the United States.

What is all the hub bub about?
August 30, 2008 - 20:40 ET by doug1950Why are so many of the Dems, MSM and liberals at large so upset that Palin lacks experience in their estimation. One would think they would be estatic at the prospect of the GOP having a lightweight for a running mate for McCain. Why all the concern? They should be rejoicing and dancing in the streets if it is such a sure win. Instead there is hand wringing, sweating, pleading for an explanation. Too frigging late, its a done deal. Besides, they got to pick their candidate and we get to pick ours, that's the way it works. Sounds like maybe they aren't so happy with OB anymore. Biden looks positively sick to his stomach. I think he knows deep inside his mercenary little black heart they are toast and he may be singing his last swan song. Once you get the scent of fear and loser on you it is hard to wash off. Palin's so called lack of expericnce is the ONLY thing they have and they are playing that tune 24/7 hoping it will get some legs under it, so far it hasn't. The MSM and the Dems only sound desparate now with a healthy dose of panic on the side.
