Nepotism alert! Tim Russert’s college-age son Luke – yes, the youngster with the XM satellite radio sports show with James Carville – was sitting in as one of the wise-cracking sidekicks on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Friday, and Joe Scarborough was mocking him and his "New Age parents" for drinking green tea from Starbucks. Apparently, "morning joe" humor is required, considering the show name. Channeling the spirit of Don Imus, with his regular drug jokes, Luke quipped: “Starbucks are legalized opium dens, and I agree with that.” He’s obviously joking, but you wouldn’t want to run for office and have Tim Russert put that quote up on screen, would you?
You don't think this is what XM Radio meant when they said Luke and James had "amazing chemistry"?
That wasn’t the end of the law-skirting comedy. A few minutes later, news reader Mika Brzezinski (daughter of the Jimmy Carter security guru and Bush hater Zbignew Brzezinski was pushed to acknowledge that she employed her feminine wiles to get out of a traffic ticket this morning despite her admitted speeding and running multiple red lights to make it to the studio on time. She said she cried, and the police officer let her off.

That crew is terrible.
July 27, 2007 - 11:07 ET by Pasco ConservativeThat crew is terrible. Mika thinks she is above everyone else. Scarborough isn't credible and has become a toadie for the liberals. MSNBC isn't watchable.
Give me Fox and Friends anytime it is more entertaining and informative.
Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any
man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.

I haven't had green tea from Starbucks, but I regularly drink green tea from Hangzhou, China's West Lake area (I have even had the opportunity to visit one of the tea plantations there). It lives up to its reputation as some of the best green tea in the world.
Most of what is served as green tea in America is quite nasty in comparison.

I don't recall many
July 27, 2007 - 11:27 ET by sarcasmoI don't recall many actually-funny jokes at all on the dead Imus show, drug or otherwise, but why subject the audience to this annoying bunch of airheads instead of Larry Elder, MSNBC? Were my positive comments on NB about his week THAT painful just because I happen to constantly diss your beloved Anus??

I don't understand this
July 27, 2007 - 11:28 ET by balboaI don't understand this post, Tim. Are you saying you're offended at the drug talk but not really? That this is offensive?
I agree
July 27, 2007 - 12:21 ET by SQL_SamWhat has this to do with bias? I don't get it? So what, that some guys son (who happens to be on tv - wow shocker hollywood does this all the time) is on TV and says something that you know is a joke? Let's not get hyper sensitive people.
Maybe Tim's anticipating a
July 27, 2007 - 13:16 ET by sarcasmoMaybe Tim's anticipating a string of alcohol + astronauts jokes, and wants to get an early dig in on drug-jokes generally. (Obviously, it didn't work if his intent was to limit bad drinking-puns.)

Luke's charmed media life
July 27, 2007 - 13:27 ET by Tim GrahamIt's a light post about humor -- and Russert's boy wonder and all of his perks.
Ah. Liberal "celebrity"
July 27, 2007 - 13:34 ET by balboaAh. Liberal "celebrity" kids and their perks. Because conservative kids of the same ilk never get any advantages, like, say, GW Bush.

Thwack!
July 27, 2007 - 14:06 ET by Tim GrahamThat's a decent jab, Bal. I wouldn't say it doesn't happen on the right. Luke might turn out to be as distinguished as Dear Old Dad. But this is a little like putting 20-year-old Dubya in a cabinet meeting. More dish on Luke here:

July 27, 2007 - 14:09 ET by balboaVery true. There's lots of crummy nepotism out there. For example, supposedly Ivanka Trump is very bright, but, you're telling me she got her job completely on merit?
I was flipping back and
July 27, 2007 - 11:47 ET by shannon20I was flipping back and forth between F&F and Morning Joe. It is so hard to watch MSNBC. I feel so uncomfortable on a regular basis. Joe is always telling the camera man to get a full shot of Mika and talking about the way she says certain words. I used to think it was "sexual harassment", but now I believe that she invites Joe and others to comment on her and her apperance. She is sickening. This morning she couldn't keep her hands off of Luke Russert. She kept trying to push him to drink her coffee out of her cup, That's disgusting. I don't drink after anyone anyway but, much less when I don't know where they're mouth has been. She is so unprofessional. She's unlike any other news caster, I've seen in awhile. To me, she would be good on one of those German newscast where the chicks take their clothes off as they read the news. She is like there Hook, but she isn't cutting it. I'm sure they're are plenty more women than horny ol' men watching at that time of day. I'm just saying...
Not bias. Just interesting
July 27, 2007 - 12:44 ET by Chris NormanNot bias. Just interesting to read the kind of dubiously entertaining light news/discussion that's on while I'm away from a tv (not that I'd watch the crap on MSNBC, anyway). Maybe it's nepotism, but I'm absolutely certain that Russert's son is just so talented, he'd have got on television, even if his last name was Smith. You can't keep this kind of wit and talent away from a demanding public...

June 13, 2008 - 17:38 ET by nkviking75Mr. Graham, it would be appropriate to add an update pointing out that your original post came hours before Tim Russert's death today.

Cried?
June 16, 2008 - 08:39 ET by Shooter1002She cried? A feminist cried to a cop over a ticket? She didn't demand an apology, call her attorney & flip him a bird?
'BooHoo, my husband left me, I'm behind on my car payments, my mamma has a new boyfriend and I can't move back, the rent is 2 weeks late, the government won't give me any money and now you're going to give me a ticket. Boohoohoohoo Boohoohoo'
