Chi Sun-Times Mitchell: 'Sarah Palin makes me sick'

Here at Newsbusters we are not surprised to see liberal bias in the media. In fact it is to be expected. But there are degrees of bias; typically falling somewhere in between the subtle undertones of contextually stretched reporting to the overtly blatant thrill up the leg sort.

But there is another type of bias that is so mean spirited and over the top that you have to wonder if we aren’t observing a nervous breakdown on a mass scale. It seems that many in the media are becoming unglued over the concept of a McCain-Palin ticket.

Case in point is Mary Mitchell's latest column that appeared in yesterday's Chicago Sun Times.

Sarah Palin makes me sick. I hate that she was able to steal Barack Obama's mojo just by showing up wearing rimless glasses and a skirt.
I hate that she makes Joe Biden look like John McCain and John McCain look like the maverick he is not.

All that hate in one little column. But Mitchell, displaying her true lack of professionalism in an infantile tantrum, was just getting started.

I hate that Palin reminds me of Susan Sarandon's feisty character in "Thelma & Louise." I loved Sarandon in that movie, yet I couldn't stand Palin's feistiness at the Republican National Convention.

Sarah Palin makes me sick -- not because she may speak in tongues -- but because she is a fast talker.

Not even ABC's Charlie Gibson can slow Palin's mouth.

In all Mary Mitchell stated that “Sarah Palin makes me sick” 3 times, “I hate” 3 times, “Sarah Palin scares me” once, “It irks me” once and “I couldn't stand Palin's feistness” once.

In between Mitchell's emotional tirade of hate and sickness she stated that Palin isn’t a true hockey mom, attacked Palin's skills as a mother, used her pregnant daughter once again in a gimmick to tout her own pro-abortion agenda, and ticked off a whole slew of left wing talking points. Mitchell even made sarcastic light of 7 year old Piper Palin for giving “the world a fuzzy moment on stage at the convention when she licked her hand and smoothed her baby brother's hair”.

Mitchell finally showed her true colors when she attacked black Democrats for furthering the cause of "white candidates".

Sarah Palin makes me sick because although black Democrats have been responsible for giving white candidates the boost they needed to beat their Republican opponents in tight races, these voters are now being insulted by feminists who say they will cross over into the McCain camp because of her.

This is what passes as professional journalism nowadays. There is no bar too low or line that shouldn't be crossed.

Of course it would be folly to point out to Mary Mitchell that her professional rant is no different than a million other non-professional types that appear on left leaning blogs across the country. Perhaps that is the Sun Times plan.

The Sun Times lost long time Chicago sports columnist Jay Mariotti who stated that he resigned because the paper Times can't compete in the internet marketplace. So perhaps this is the Sun Times solution to bridging that gap by allowing Mitchell to take one step closer toward the likes of the Daily Kos. From my point she bridged that gap just fine.
