NBC, ABC Skip Obama Administration's Delay of Pipeline That Could Create 20,000 Jobs
ABC and NBC completely ignored a decision by the Obama administration that could kill up to 20,000 jobs. Only CBS's Evening News reported that a proposed oil pipeline from Canada to Texas has been delayed until after the presidential election due to environmental concerns.
Evening News reporter Mark Strassmann explained, "Supporters said the pipeline from Canada's tar sand fields would create more than 20,000 jobs and reduce U.S. dependence on oil from the Middle East."
He added, "But opponents argued the pipeline was a potential environmental hazard that could have polluted an aquifer that supplies drinking water for eight states."
Strassmann pointed out that the decision allows Obama to putt off a "very tough decision" and that the President "was squeezed between environmentalists on one side and labor unions aching for jobs on the other."
On NBC, Today and the Nightly News both skipped the subject. ABC's World News and Good Morning America did the same. While Thursday's Evening News did feature the story in a full report, Friday's Early Show ignored it.
American Petroleum Institute President Jack Gerard appeared on the November 10th Kudlow Report to complain about the decision: "It's clear the President, tonight, made a very calculated political judgment. And in our view, he gave away 20,000 new American jobs for one job. His own."
Host Larry Kudlow called the decision an "outrage" and complained, "This undermines every single thing the President has said regarding the desirability of an American energy revolution that could make us independent."
The Washington Times' Tim Devaney on Friday noted:
Story Continues Below Ad ↓The reaction was negative north of the border. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper told reporters that he was disappointed by the delay.
"The pipeline will create thousands of jobs and billions in economic growth on both sides of the border," he said.
TransCanada's president and CEO, Russ Girling, took a shot at the decision to kill what he called "shovel-ready" jobs.
"If Keystone XL dies, Americans will still wake up the next morning and continue to import 10 million barrels of oil from repressive nations, without the benefit of thousands of jobs and long-term energy security," he said.
(Emphasis added.)
A transcript of the November 10 Evening News segment can be found below:
SCOTT PELLEY: The Obama administration said today that it will hold off on making a final decision about a new oil pipeline between the U.S. and Canada. Environmentalists have been critical of the project and today's announcement delays any action until after the presidential election. Mark Strassmann has been in Calgary working on a story about the proposed pipeline. Mark?
MARK STRASSMANN: Until this month, Scott, today's pipeline and the building of it seemed inevitable, even Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she was inclined to approve it. But today's delay therefore has stunned the TransCanada, the company that would have built the pipeline and its CEO is Russ Girling.
RUSS GIRLING: To come to the conclusion that we need more study is obviously very disappointing for us and is going to be very, very disappointing for our customers.
STRASSMANN: The $7 billion underground pipeline would carry oil 1700 miles from western Canada through six U.S. states to refineries of heavy crude near Houston. Supporters said the pipeline from Canada's tar sand fields would create more than 20,000 jobs and reduce U.S. dependence on oil from the Middle East. But opponents argued the pipeline was a potential environmental hazard that could have polluted an aquifer that supplies drinking water for eight states. TransCanada CEO Russ Girling says his company will regroup with the U.S. State Department next week about the next step and blamed environmentalists for hijacking the debate over the pipeline.
RUSS GIRLING: The tragedy is to the average American that manufactures things to supply the oil sands, whether it be tires, caterpillar tractors in Pennsylvania. They're all over the United States. The average person that's out of work right now, this is a great opportunity to go back to work and we're throwing it out the door if we let this project die.
STRASSMANN: Even if TransCanada gets eventual approval, the earliest construction could begin some time in 2013. This delay allows President Obama to put off a very tough decision. He was squeezed between environmentalists on one side and labor unions aching for jobs on the other. With this delay, Scott, he won't have to decide until well after next year's election.
PELLEY: Mark thank you very much.

This is what the Republicans

This is what the Republicans need to hammer Obama on too. He blames them for stalling his stimulus bill. They need to hit him on putting off decisions until after the 2012 elections. We all know IF he is reelected it will never happen under him.
Who was it for?
Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 5:41pm.
One thing we know for sure, he wasn't doing it for the environmentalists. He's not doing it for the environment, or anything "green" related. If he really were doing it for those reasons, Russia, China, and other countries wouldn't be drilling off shore while at the same time not allowing our own oil companies to drill off shore.
He's doing it to keep exercising dictatorial control over the country as well as making sure that we don't regain our independence that we once had.

The more the MSM tries to cover for Obama, the more obvious it becomes how much they are in the tank for him. Forget about saving the economy and getting the country back to work: the only thing that matters is saving Obama from the worst electoral defeat in history.

...didn't whitewash the report. They are so pro-Obama -- makes me sick to watch them sometimes.
But one thing is for sure... we're all pretty much upset up here with this delay. We're glaring right now at the premier of the province of Alberta, Alison Redford, for *refusing* to lobby the Obama administration in favor of Keystone.
Now she says she's "disappointed" at news of the delay, but the Wild Rose party of Alberta (a truly conservative party - unlike Steven Harper's federal conservative party) are pointing their fingers right at her.
Make no mistake about this. Obama kicked the can. If he gets elected in 2012, you can bet your underwater mortgages that the project will be killed permanently.

Like I said on another thread yesterday, Ms. Rad..........I allready thought that Boy Barry has been doin' gangsta sh*t since he was coronated - bit I'm sure that if he gets another term, he'll really be doin' the G-thang!!!
Of course, Chris Rock will be OK with it, since he's 'black' and an Obama supporter, and for some reason, he won't have to shell out big taxes - just as long as he makes some substantial 'donations'. I've thought that (smoking the) Rock was an idiot for a long time, and he just continues to prove it to me.

So once again Obama is a "black president" if you're black, but if you're white and you see him that way you're a racist. If a white person said he was doing "gangsta sh&*", again, it would be racist. Of course the reality is, obama is whiter inside than I am. Look where the guy went to school, where he vacations, his passion for golf, and who he hangs out with (mostly old white guys).

TRU DAT, Ms. Rad!!! Actually - and this statement might sound a little 'controversial', but hear me out, OK?? When you hear Herman Cain speak (without seeing him), you KNOW that you're listening to an authentic 'black' man who's got an IQ and some real-world experience to back up his statements, whether you agree with him or not. Now, if you hear Boy BlahBlah speak (without seeing him), it sounds like some psuedo mid-western small-town radio host, complete with an indesipherable accent and not a whole lot of intelligence behind it.
And - I used this riff on a lib acquantance of mine recently - it's a riff that I stole from one of 'da guyz' here on NB. Boy Barry is descended from African Moooooooooooooooslems who SOLD African 'blacks', as slaves, to many countries all over the world - and not just the USA!!! (For some reason, these 'slavers' seem to think that we're the only damn place on this planet who ever did it!!!)............while Herman Cain is descended from the actual slaves who landed here!!! So who's more authentic??? Barry has NO experience or history in traditional 'black America'.................I still can't figure out why the majority of the 'blacks' have bought into this scam.
Well, actually............I can.............

A pet peeve of mine is the slavery issue. Ever see Speilberg's movie "Amistaad"? It's about slaves who take control of the slave ship they are on and kill the crew. They are defended by John Adams or John Quincy Adams, I forget which. At any rate they are set free and it's moral is the evils of slavery etc. What Spielberg fails to mention is that the leader of the slave revolt went back to Africa and became a slave trader himself. The left loves to leave out relevant details don't they?
One minor correction
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 11/12/2011 - 12:43pm.
Rad, everything you said is correct, but one little thing of note is the "passion for golf." If he had a true passion for golf, his game would have gotten better by now, he's done it 85+ times since the coronation and it has yet to improve...or decrease in the time it takes him to play. There are a few of us who have or had played golf(including me and I refuse to do it as long as he's still in the WH...or rather on the golf course on our dime) and we all agree after seeing a few videos of him playing: HIS GAME JUST PLAIN SUCKS!
He's only doing that because he knows it's paid for, and he does it to stick it to people as well as get away from decision making, which was why he had to be dragged off the course to make his 18-hour "decision" regarding bin Laden and then sitting in that room with the others looking at a blank screen to make a photo that looks like they were watching the action of the Navy SEALs.
It's just like everything else he's done, including what you point out, where he went to school vacations, and etc, because it's on someone else's dime. Including hanging out with rich white guys to take their money either by "fund raisers" or by taxes or by just plain larceny(gov't takeover).
Either way, it's all repugnant.

I suppose Obama feels like his golf game should get better simply because he's, well Obama. Why should his game get better? He's the Chosen One, the Annoited One, how can he possibly improve?
A word about the Navy Seals. Colin Powell was talking about the raid and used the term "folks" in reference to them. Navy Seals are not "folks". They a are highly trained, elite, professional strike force who, IMO, should be referred to as such.

"Folks" as Obama uses it makes us all sound as if we're uneducated hicks. He rarely refers to the population as "people" or "taxpayers". I don't think he's ever called his cronies "folks" because he sees them, and himself, as the elite, educated, ones who should be making all the decisions for the commoners.
No more an insult than using "you people".

Hey duck...............the only time I hear Boy Barry (or his big-booty wife - or Colin the FenceSitter, for that matter) use the word 'folks' is when they're describing people out in fly-over country, or the hinterlands, or the masses of unemployed or underemployed..........you know, the proletariat - and in Powell's case - the friggin' SEALS!!! My son was a SEAL, FenceSitter, and he's NOT just some 'folk'!!!
When I start hearing Boy BlahBlah referreing to Soros and Ayers and Wright and Axleface and Rhambo and his Union thug bosses as 'folks', then maybe I'll change my opinion about it - although I do think that he referred to Willaim Ayers as 'some guy in the neighborhood'............as well as calling his Grandma (who 'mysteriously died over here the day before his coronation, after being under lock and key all during the campaign) a 'typical white person'.
I don't mind being 'folks'...............as long as it's some other 'folks' who are saying it. I DON'T consider any of these aforementioned people to be in that league whatsoever.

What many of us in Canada feel sad that this president would choose to protect his own political career at the expence of 20,000 USA jobs and the friendship of Canadians. This pipeline is a no brainer and would have been a state of the art line built and maintained by one of the best pipeline operators in the world.
If the left wing CBC wingnuts in Canada are saying unfavorable things about Obama just guess what some of the others are saying.

Not only can we be getting this oil from our friend/neighbor Canada, but we also have unprecendented amounts of oil, natural gas, and other resources right here in our own country - and I'm NOT talking about any of this undependble 'green' energy either!!! And this is no secret, and not breaking news - we've known this for a long long time.
So Boy Barry, and a long cadre of other politicians, always want to give (purple) lip service to these energy problems, usually by trying to villify either the oil companies or the countries that we buy our oil from, and who basically hate us..........and then hijack the conversation toward these other undependable, unreliable, and expensive other 'solutions'.......while bowing to the environmental and political whackos who DON'T want us to become more energy independant - which is something that we could do quite handily - and we could tell these other countries to , literally, go pound sand!!!
And meanwhile, we've got China, Cuba, Vietnam (???), Venequela, Mexico, and other countries drilling for all the oil they can get within actual eyesight of our own borders!!! To paraphrase Sarah Palin - 'I can see Chinese oil rigs from my house'.........and, might I add , 'but I don't see any AMERICAN oil rigs'!!!!
These guys are so 'smart' that they're BEYOND STUPID!!!!! Hey Barry..........Joe...........Mooooooooooooochelle..........and the rest of you delusional morons - where the hell did the jet fuel and the gasoline come from that is powering your big planes and motorcades???

I don't think the environmentalists nor Barry Obama even realize what a smakll impact this little pipe;ine would have on the environment. You have to wonder if any of the greenie tree huggers even stop for one minute and think of how big an area the pipeline would be built in? There's an enormous amount of space between the Canadian border and the Gulf of Mexico sand I would be that unless someone told yyou the pipeline was there, you wouldn't be able to find it. In their rush to stop big oil and have there way the greenies never seem to consider the small impact this small pipeline would have on this enormous space. People need jobs, so lets stop all this environmental nonsense, get the pipeline built, and put Americans back to work.
