ABC Examines Michele Bachmann's Hairdo: You May Like It, Even If You're Liberal

Good Morning America on Wednesday offered a short, odd little segment on Michele Bachmann's hairdo. Seeming to not know how to explain this phenomenon, GMA contributor Laura Spencer stuttered, "The- Well, let's just call it what it is. It's The Bachmann, people, and everybody wants it."

Spencer added a caveat in regard to Bachmann's ideology: "Now, whether or not her politics are your cup of tea, it doesn't matter. Hair stylists across the country say there is a nonpartisan demand for the Bachmann bob."

GMA has not found it necessary to offer such a political warning in regard to Michele Obama. On January 20, 2010, then-news anchor Yunji de Nies gushed, "[Barack Obama] may have won the presidency, but when she set foot on Pennsylvania Avenue, Michelle Obama captivated the country."

Obviously there is a big difference between a First Lady and a candidate. But, Mrs. Obama's politics aren't many Americans' "cup of tea."

On Thursday, Spencer offered that Bachmann "is the hair apparent for the next big trend setter title, thanks to her sleek, copper streaked tresses."

A transcript of the August 31 segment can be found below:

LAURA SPENCER: And, okay, in the world of celebrity hairstyles that everyone wants, many moons ago there was a Dorothy Hamill and don't say you didn't have it, Elizabeth. There was the Palin. The- Well, let's just call it what it is. It's the Bachmann, people, and everybody wants it. That's right. The presidential, presidential [sic] candidate, the Republican presidential candidate, is the hair apparent for the next big trend setter title, thanks to her sleek, copper streaked tresses. Bachmann's hairstylist won't reveal goes into the secret do, but salons are doing their best to figure it out. Now, whether or not her politics are your cup of tea, it doesn't matter. Hair stylists across the country say there is a nonpartisan demand for the Bachmann bob.
