ABC Alert for 'Foot-in-Mouth' 'Gaffes' by the GOP, Skipped Obama's ATM Blunder
Just seconds after donating a fawning interview to Barack Obama about the meaning of being a father, the journalists at Good Morning America on Friday provided White House spin with a look at the "foot-in-mouth" "gaffes" of the Republican presidential candidates.
Reporter Jake Tapper insisted, "This looks as though it's going to be a tight race, so everyone is jumping on any possible gaffe." Tapper oddly included the fact that "at a San Francisco book signing, Republican Tim Pawlenty [was] attacked by Code Pink with glitter." Having glitter dumped on you is a gaffe?
It's not as though Obama didn't have his own problems this week. As Tapper reported on his Political Punch blog, the President on Tuesday blamed a slow recovery partially on ATMs: "You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM; you don't go to a bank teller." Tapper did not include this fact in his story and ABC has totally ignored it.
(To his credit, he did feature Obama's joke that "shovel ready was not as shovel ready as we expected.")
Former Clinton operative turned journalist George Stephanopoulos introduced the segment as "this week's foot-in-mouth watch."
Stephanopoulos then derided, "Plenty of fodder for all sides to pounce on at this early stage of the campaign. Jake Tapper has been keeping tracks of the gaffes from the White House." (Naturally, Stephanopoulos did not mean that White house gaffes would be exposed.)
The MRC's Alex Fitzsimmons noted the media blackout of the ATM comments on Wednesday.
A transcript of the June 17 segment, which aired at 7:14am EDT, follows:
ABC GRAPHIC: Gaffes on the Trail: Rough Day for GOP Candidates
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Now the latest on the 2012 campaign he's [Obama] going to be in the middle of and this week's foot-in-mouth watch. Plenty of fodder for all sides to pounce on at this early stage of the campaign. Jake Tapper has been keeping tracks of the gaffes from the White House. Good morning, Jake.
JAKE TAPPER: Good morning, George. That's right. The latest Gallup poll has President Obama narrowly losing to a generic Republican. This looks as though it's going to be a tight race, so everyone is jumping on any possible gaffe. At Buddy Brew Coffee in Tampa, in swing state Florida, Republican front-runner Mitt Romney seemed to be riding high on the campaign trail as he went to connect with struggling Floridans. In this state with 10.8 percent unemployment, Romney tried to relate.
MITT ROMNEY: I could also tell my story, I'm also unemployed.
TAPPER: Ha, ha ha? His aides say he was just joshing around about being unemployed. Of course, Romney is worth hundreds of millions of dollars but Democrats quickly pounced. The head of the DNC, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz telling Romney, quote, "Being unemployed, Mr. Romney, is not a joke, not to my constituents in Florida or to millions of Americans across the country." Earlier this week, it was Romney saying Obama doesn't take economic hardship seriously enough. After the President referred to deterrents to the recovery as-
BARACK OBAMA: Bumps on the road to recovery.
TAPPER: Romney pounced with this campaign video featuring voters.
MAN IN AD: I'm an American, not a bump in the road.
TAPPER: This is becoming a Republican theme.
OBAMA: Shovel ready was not as shovel ready as we expected.
TAPPER: Newt Gingrich last night-
NEWT GINGRICH: Mr. President, it wasn't very funny to the 14 million unemployed Americans to learn that you didn't know what you were doing and that your plans didn't work.
TAPPER: Some other odd moments on the campaign trail, Romney at a New Hampshire diner pretending to have his rear end pinched. And at a San Francisco book signing, Republican Tim Pawlenty attacked by Code Pink with glitter.
WOMAN: Where's your courage to stand for gay rights and reproductive rights?
TAPPER: George, you might recall earlier this week Tim Pawlenty took heat. On Sunday, he criticized Romney's health care plan as 'Obamneycare' and then, Monday, during that debate with Republicans, he backed off that attack. Last night on Fox News he said it was a mistake and he should have continued that attack. Kind of a rocky start for Tim Pawlenty.
STEPHANOPOULOS: He gave the answer last night that a lot of people expected him to give on Monday. Okay, Jake.

Obama narrowly losing to a generic Republican

A Republican... any Republican
That means the fight to win the Republican nomination IS the fight to be President. Obama is just a side show to the election.
No, no, no according to some of our liberal friend's here

the question is whether it's a "gaffe" or not. Who cares that their Boy Wonder continually makes himself look like second grader by all these silly little inane comments!
And the world leaders are still laughing at the joke of a president we have chosen as our ahem "savior."
Oddly enough, gmaniac...

only minutes before I opined it was not a "gaffe", unbeknownst to me michigan ruth had posted her conclusion which was identical to mine--even listing the same examples of actual gaffes by Obama.
Moreover, neither of us claimed his ATM illustration was a good one.
And I dare you to call michigan ruth a liberal.
Jer.

the "dare" is all about. Is that a threat?
However I do understand why someone would be offended to be called a liberal, well at least anyone with a sense of value and pride. So you may have a point there actually... wow we actually agree on something!
Even if someone isn't a liberal they should know better to get off topic and leave the door wide open for someone like yourself. Why are you here anyway?
None of what you post is in remote agreement on here so you think your opinion matters? If I need your side I'll watch the nets and liberal cable news channels. So you can "respectfully disagree" all you want. But please continue if you choose:)
You are more than welcome, gmaniac...

to never read a single word I post. And, frankly, the fact that you would even imply that my daring you to call michigan ruth a conservative may be some sort of "threat" suggests you would be much better off not reading my comments.

to not even read your posts. Typical liberal response so not too surprising.
I read what I please regardless of how much nonsense it may be which most of yours and your ilk seem to be. I come here to get relief from the constant liberal b.s. in the media not to embrace it, hence the title of the blog. That stated again I wonder why are you here?
This Michigan Ruth you speak of is here because he's a conservative. I got that but what is your purpose? To change someone's mind or to enlighten us on how great your side of politics is to ours?
Regardless thanks for the advice and as you liberals like to point out, be careful how you use certain words like "dare." That way you don't have to backtrack with statements "you don't have to read a single word I post." Boo friggin hoo go take that crap somewhere else, what a joke.
Hmm...Let's summarize:
Submitted by Jer on Sat, 06/18/2011 - 6:14pm.
Poster B [gmaniac] absurdly misconstrues a simple statement by Poster A [Jer] to--perhaps--be some sort of "threat", suggests Poster A's opinions don't matter, and announces that if he wishes to subject himself to views like those of Poster A and his ilk he will go elsewhere to do so.
As such it seemed perfectly reasonable to recommend Poster B avoid the comments of Poster A altogether. After all, they are meaningless to Poster B, unworthy of his time and attention, and, apparently, tend to confuse him [as further evidenced by his ludicrous characterization of Poster A's response as "backtrack"ing.]
So, gmaniac, it's only advice. You aren't required to follow it. But give it some more thought. I'm not going anywhere.

I am a nice guy. I don't like conflict. I don't like people who insult other people. I think we should discuss these things civilly... I think you are a stupid moron that doesn't know his azz from a hole in the ground.
I disagree with Jer 99% of the time. However, Jer is always respectful and presents logical, well thought out, though woefully wrong arguments. Oops... How to put it better? I respect Jer's opinions and they matter to me because it helps to know what your opposition thinks and feels. If you can understand their position, we can more easily find common ground to build on.
"Why are you here anyway?" Maybe because this is a free country and he has a right to express his opinion. I learn more from his opinions than I do from morons like you who have no tolerance for people they disagree with... you sound more like a liberal than anything else.
Take your negativity and intolerance and go find a conservative equivalent of the "Daily KOS" where you can spend your days blissfully preaching to your own choir.
Well Jer go ahead and ignore me all you want as
Submitted by gmaniac1 on Sat, 06/18/2011 - 8:53pm.
I was only pointing out that you tried to changed the argument with use of the word gaffe over the original argument over what said. Then you say you dare me not to post something on here about it? Well then quit responding to my posts then on your own right.
And beauxdog if you're such a nice guy and do not want conflict why get involved? This is between me and another poster. Your post to me sounds rather smarmy and hypocritical so maybe you and the liberal "nice guy" should take your slobberfest to the Daily Kos or wherever you came from. And for the record I truly don't care what you or any other weak in the knees conservative doesn't like. So get over yourself tough guy!
I expect a liberal to try to silence the opposition but not a fellow "conservative." It's conservatives like you that avoid conflict with liberals but attack other conservatives when they have no business in the argument in the first place, sounds a lot like a McCain sort of guy.
Like Ann Coulter recently stated liberals love the mob mentality and piling on will not work on me. So keep being a hypocrite by posting "negativity" as you state about my negativity, um yeah okay makes sense to me!
You are NOT a fellow conservative...
Submitted by beauxdog on Sun, 06/19/2011 - 2:46am.
If you were a conservative, you would welcome discussion and a difference of opinion. Instead you present yourself as an absolute jackass with no tolerance whatsoever for people who have a different opinion than you do. This is what the "liberals" do.
If you don't have the intelligence to discuss the topics at hand, you should avoid Jer's posts because your comments only make you (and the rest of us conservatives) look really, really stupid.
Who in the frickin' hell are you to tell another poster they are not welcome here? We don't need such arrogance.
If we go by your definition of conservative then the

movement is in the same boat as it was before. Panty wipes like yourself are nothing more than liberals that call themselves moderate. I see you defending a liberal so maybe you created an account to act like a conservative but truly are a liberal.
Liberals get all emotional and use foul language like you just did so if the shoe fits. Once you do that you've already lost the debate, no different from playing the race card.
I guess I hurt your widdle feewings so I hope you hold better during the upcoming election.
So I think I know Jer's purpose here and I suppose you do as well since you're on his jock pretty hard. I guess I should have asked you that question, hmmm.
In fairness, since that is what your type likes, I'lll answer that question myself and your friend is unwilling to answer.
I'm here to discuss rational conservative core values with like minded individuals not on the fringe of society. I'm not here to compromise as I see enough of that from weak minded, "try not to offend" the other side types that want to get along. My conservatives heroes always state there is a war of ideas and I tried to address that with your liberal friend and chose to try to get another poster involved. Which didn't work with that particular poster because he seems smarter than that.
If someone like you doesn't think I'm a conservative well I'll gladly take that as a compliment. However, please continue with your angry defense as you only make yourself look like a fool Mr. "Negativity." You are comedy relief at this point!
You are not here...

to discuss core values. You are a typical troll who is just here to be disruptive. You take whatever people say who respond to you, and turn it into insults that you think will get a reaction. This is the last I play of your little game. I hope others will ignore you as well and send you off to find your utopia elsewhere.
Right now it seems as you're the one trolling

and doesn't seem to know when he's lost the debate.
You definitely fit the mold of a narcissist but normally they're smarter than this... but please continue.
And I could only hope that someone like you will just crawl back under that rock you come from. The world will be a better place but one can only dream.

in your attempted lesson to me on sensitivity training, and "tolerant" behavior towards liberals. Hmmm, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah from liberals.
So according to your logic, for lack of a better word, me not accepting liberal b.s. is somehow intolerant, seriously? What a ridiculous assertion.
This whole site is completely one sided AGAINST liberal media bias and the elitist liberal agenda. You may want to read the title of this blog. I dunno just a suggestion. God forbid I come across as telling you or anyone else on here something to do. I wouldn't want you to throw another hissy fit.
So that stated I answer the liberal's question for him, why are you here? Answer: To rattle the conservatives cage on here even ever slightly to go continue the same liberal b.s. we deal with outside of this place.
You need to quit riding the fence and figure out which side your on, or do you even know that anymore?
No wonder people think right winger are nuts.
