Networks Skip Ed Schultz's Smearing of Laura Ingraham as a 'Right-Wing Slut,' Hyped Imus' 'Ho' Scandal

The network evening news programs on Wednesday and morning shows on Thursday skipped covering the suspension of MSNBC host Ed Shultz for trashing Laura Ingraham as a "right-wing slut." Yet, these same networks eagerly jumped all over the story of Don Imus referring to college basketball players as "hos."

On Wednesday, ABC's World News, CBS's Evening News and NBC's Nightly News avoided reporting on this May 24 remark by Schultz: "Like this right-wing slut, what's her name, Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she's a talk slut." (Good Morning America, Today and Early Show did the same.) Later in the day on Wednesday, MSNBC suspended Schultz.

When radio host Imus was initially removed for two weeks in 2007 (before being fired), the evening newscasts devoted six stories (two per network) to the radio host on April 10 alone.

Reporter Dan Harris on the April 10, 2007 World News derided Schultz's "racist, sexist comments." On the same day's Nightly News, Brian Williams lectured, "...We have witnessed an explosive reaction to some hateful words uttered by Don Imus."

The April 11 morning programs, the day after the suspension, couldn't get enough of story. The Early Show devoted three full reports. Today offered an additional three segments, including bringing in Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee, Al Sharpton and Imus himself to go over every detail.

Al Roker summed it up best on that day's Today, proclaiming that "Hateful words that have ignited a public and media outcry."

So far, however, there has been no such journalistic outrage over slurring a conservative as a  "right-wing slut."

Yeah,

Yeah, well.................Ingraham is a 'right wing WHITE sl*t', whereas those poor basketball players that Imus dispairaged were 'minorities', so it was a 'hate crime' and a 'racial attack'.

Ingraham is a tough cookie, and also a classy lady.............but I think it would be ironic if she played this up in her broadcasts - with humor, irony, and biting wit. Just to irritate all of the thin-skinned libs, who CAN'T take this type of talk, but sure can dish it out.

They may have something in common..

Submitted by NJRightWinger12 on Thu, 05/26/2011 - 12:52pm.

NIOBODY saw or heard them when they were first broadcast. The left, who Imus was def a part of, suddenly ripped into him about this, enough for him to get fired. I never even HEARD of Sgt Schultz-no offense to John Banner-except for this site, so who the fu*k IS he? Why is he still on the air? They whacked Imus, didnt they? And he had ratings and a name factor ALOT higher than Special Ed!

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. BEN FRANKLIN

No one cares / knows who Ed

No one cares / knows who Ed Schultz is. Imus is a MUCH bigger name.

Agreed

Absolutely right. Imus is an established, long time radio show host in New York and Special Ed, by contrast, is watched by literally dozens of left-wing kooks. While the truth is NB is right, and that the MSM would NEVER throw one of there own under the bus (unless it improved their own ratings), Imus is by far a bigger story for them.

Really

Submitted by Lamdog on Thu, 05/26/2011 - 1:42pm.

You expect equal treatment of a misogynist, liberal white male debasement of a conservative female, no use of the word white, as black or white fair game, to be treated the same as Don Imus. The sad part is Imus was poor choice. Schultz was deliberate.

What is even more telling. No one would have known if not for Breitbart.com. I guess this is the saddest comment about MSNBC.

Neither one of them are worth

Neither one of them are worth the time to bother with. Their mouth isn't worth the money they are paid.

A movement against MSM badly needed

Submitted by rickinnyc on Thu, 05/26/2011 - 6:52pm.

At minimum fire off a protest & demand Ed’s firing via:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10285339

To fill out the quick form…do not send to the Ed Show..in the subject line, drop down to MSNBC TV General..Feedback type: Comment. As w/ all emails a sentence or two is enough such as FIRE ED SCHULTZ for his sexist remarks (personalize it)..of course he’s been offensive in other ways, if you can briefly document it helps. Their staff do make summary reports that goes to higher-up. Let’s make Ed a 99er…..
