David Shuster Rages Over Hypocrite Cheney's Attacks on Obama

"MSNBC News Live" co-host David Shuster slammed Dick Cheney on Tuesday's program as a hypocrite, complaining, "Your Iraq war inflamed the Muslim world, bred a new generation of terrorists who hate America and cost the lives of over 4,000 U.S. soldiers." The broadside against the former Vice President occurred during day two of Shuster's newly resurrected "Hypocrisy Watch" segment, a feature that mostly goes after conservatives and Republicans.[audio available here]

Shuster complained about an appearance Cheney made at the National Press Club on Tuesday. The ex-VP decried the closing of Guantanamo Bay and defended the Iraq war, asserting that, in the end, it saved lives. The MSNBC host also lambasted the Republican for mistakenly using Barack Obama's name when he meant Osama bin Laden. "Obama, Osama. Good grief," he exclaimed, before sarcastically asserting, "I'm sure that was an innocent mistake." Now, of course, numerous politicians have made such an error, including Ted Kennedy in 2006. Shuster has never made any of them the subject of "Hypocrisy Watch."

The concept of the segment, which started on Shuster's now-cancelled "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" show, is for the host to highlight a politician behaving hypocritically. However, Shuster's targets have mostly been conservatives and Republicans. After "1600" was cancelled in early April, the cable host began co-anchoring daytime coverage on MSNBC. On June 1, he commenced the segment anew. His target on that day was another conservative, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

At the end of his commentary on Tuesday, Shuster instructed, "If any of you would like to nominate a political figure for 'Hypocrisy Watch,' send it to me via Twitter at Twitter.MSNBC.com." Perhaps this would be an opportunity to ask the cable anchor to broaden his targets and include more liberals and Democrats.

A transcript of the June 2 segment, which aired at 4:48pm, follows:

DAVID SHUSTER: Former Vice President Dick Cheney has spoken out yet again about Obama policies that Cheney claims will make America less safe. And that takes us to tonight's "Hypocrisy Watch." First, the background. Yesterday, Dick Cheney appeared at the National Press Club. He criticized President Obama for planning to move some detainees at Guantanamo Bay prison to facilities in the United States.

DICK CHENEY: These are the folks who, given a chance, would walk in here today and blow themselves up and take as many Americans as they could with them. That's what they believe. There's not a great demand out around the country to have those folks shipped, you know, to your nearest facility.

SHUSTER: Except, Mr. Cheney, as you know, those folks would not be shipped to anybody's nearest facility or local jail. They would be shipped and held at a super max federal prison. Nobody has ever escaped from those prisons and they already hold dangerous terrorists, the most horrific of murderers, even the Unibomber. But, back to the press club. In addition to criticizing Obama policies, Mr. Cheney also defended Bush administration actions, including the war in Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, but Cheney said that didn't matter.

CHENEY: I think it was a sound decision to make. I think it was an important part of our overall strategy in the global war on terror. I think it saved lives.

SHUSTER: It saved lives? Mr. Cheney, more than American 4,000 soldiers have been died in Iraq. More than 100,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed. And because of the long extended commitment in Iraq, U.S. troops have been stretched thin in Afghanistan. You know, the place where the 9/11 attacks came from? By the way, listen to how Dick Cheney yesterday referred to Osama bin Laden.

CHENEY: I don't think he can have much impact now in terms of managing the organization because that link between Obama and the people under him is pretty fragile.

SHUSTER: Obama, Osama. Good grief! Now, I'm sure, I'm sure that was an innocent mistake. But, here's a fact, Dick. Your Iraq war inflamed the Muslim world, bred a new generation of terrorists who hate America and cost the lives of over 4,000 U.S. soldiers. When you of all people claim the Obama administration is making America less safe, that's hypocrisy and it's wrong. If any of you would like to nominate a political figure for "Hypocrisy Watch," send it to me via Twitter at Twitter.MSNBC.com

Aptly named

Just a little adjustment in the segments name to Hypocrites Watching!

If Dick Cheney were to run for the presidency, I would vote for him TODAY.

Shuster, just watch a little tape of your disgrceful little, insignificant little self. Then lay your puny little resume beside the likes of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, President Bush and what they have done for America.

You are nothing but an insignificant little rat, crawling through the garbage dump of the world named MSNBC.

Little Man

Shuster is an insignificant little man with no more brain power than a gnat. The more he, Keith and Chrissy rant like this, the lower MSNBC ratings go. This is a good thing.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31

Is it just me?

Or does Shuester's face constantly look like a snake unhinging its mouth to eat a big meal?

He is an angry blowhard.

I think Shuster has gone off the deep end. He keeps talking TO Cheney. Cheney wasn't there. Cheney probably doesn't watch MSNBS.

Olbermann is crazy like this sometimes as well. He also talks to Bush in his sleep.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

I find it strange...

...that Scheister...er...Shuster can say with a straight face...

"Your Iraq war inflamed the Muslim world, bred a new generation of
terrorists who hate America and cost the lives of over 4,000 U.S.
soldiers."

...when anyone with half a functioning brain knows the reality is that the Iraq war didn't "inflame" the radical muslim murderers...they've been "inflamed" and hated us "infidels" and have killed thousands of Americans over many decades; AND all was done well before Bush Jr. and/or VP Cheney were ever even a blip on the political radar.

What an uneducated (probably govt school educated), ignorant and sniveling little turd!

Exactly, what did Clinton

Exactly, what did Clinton do to inflame the Muslim World that they conceived, planned, financed, recruited and trained for 911 implimented just 9 months later after Bush took office?  During Clinton's term we were attacked 10 times, what did Clinton do to breed a new generation of terrorists????

Hey Shuster, you're either a moron or a deciever, sometimes evil people and fanatics do stuff that rational peace loving people just can't understand or ever dream of doing with no real provocation.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

Could Shuster open his mouth any wider?

I think he had the hinges loosened?

Cheney made an old fashiond slip of the tongue but he isn't far off if we wanted to compare the two terrorists!

depends on how hard you pull the string

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Shuster

Is this Shuster really this stupid or does he just think his audience  is. If this is true he should be mad at Newsweek they published reports about the destruction of the Koran, which also inflamed Muslims.

Edmund Burke said all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Do not allow evil to triumph. Do not do sit by and do nothing.

When thinking of the MSNBC on air props

I can't help but think of the Three Stooges.  Larry, Moe, Curley, and Shemp.  Matthews, Olbermann, Schuster, and Maddow.

MSNBC should broadcast in black and white so it would appear more authenic.

Jack that is offensive

Jack that is one of the most offensive things I have ever read ...... the Stooges were geniuses .... the MSNBC crew are nothing but anti american, appeasing, quasi marxists who will do anything for their corporate Master GE and their messiah

_______ Him and the Unicorn he rode in on

A wise guy, eh?

No. At least the Three Stooges were funny. The morons in the State-Run Media are just sick demented fools.

Snake Jaw Hinge Syndrome, Inc.

Both Shuster and Campbell Brown are chartered members of this organization.  Often wondered if I was being too hard on these idiots when I watched them speak, but what do you know, there are others out there just as critical as I am.

Seems like the credentials for becoming a TV loon is to have some kind of a speech impediment or facial malady.  Just look at how many can't speak properly by pronouncing the letter S, as eths and the letter M as evv.  John Roberts and Bill Clinton both come to mind with these two examples, which proves that it is not just TV loons, but loons in general.  Keep an eye to the TV newsers for this situation and you'll be quite surprized at how many can't speak properly.  No wonder the MSM is losing their audience, people can't stand to listen to them slay the king's english.

That dick-head congreaseman from Florida, Robert Wexler is another fine example of talking with a mouth full of mush.  Why would anybody vote for an idiot like this?

There are certain people that if they are...

criticized by the "State run media" (Thanks, Rush) then I know that they are doing and saying the right thing.  Cheney is one of those people.  I don't watch MSNBC because of people like Shuster.  Apparently, I have a lot of company in view of their miniscule ratings.  Jim Webster

Right, Shyster

I suppose the next thing you are going to tell us is that Cheney was the reason the camel-washers declared war on the civilized world 1400 years ago, too, right?

Idiot.

The Muslim world was not

The Muslim world was not inflamed by our presence in Iraq.  The Muslim world became inflamed by the mere thought of having to share the world with anyone that doesn't practice their beliefs.  Israel can't even have a little tiny country and mind their own business without constantly being reminded of how violent muslims can be on a daily basis.  Bush did not inflame the muslim world: the entire non-muslim world inflamed the muslim world.

Open mouth, insert card table

Quite amazing...this guy

Quite amazing...this guy looks pretty much the same in evey pic...must be a hologram or CGI thing-just can't be real?
