Ignoring the Donkey in the Room
Appearing on Wednesday's "Good Morning America," media critic Howard Kurtz and co-host Chris Cuomo marveled at the media's ability to turn Americans against the war in Iraq. Kurtz, who has a new book on the subject, claimed that the top three network anchors kept "framing the story in such a way" that the bad news finally had an impact. While Cuomo and Kurtz discussed the declining ratings of the network newscasts, somehow, media bias never came up as a reason. Over on FNC's "O'Reilly Factor," however, anchor Bill O'Reilly did broach the subject with Kurtz. Asked to name a conservative at either CBS or NBC, the media critic came up with the name of that well known right-winger, Brian Williams.
Which of You is the Least Bad?
Who would be the best candidate to help conservative Republican primary voters pick their nominee? That answer is, of course, obvious: Chris Matthews. The liberal anchor presided over a Republican debate this week and asked such insightful questions as whether the U.S. would "have gone to war in Iraq if we weren't so dependent on Middle East oil?" Chris, why not just chant, "No blood for oil"?
It seems that the media can never resist gleefully highlighting one Republican attacking another Republican, even if it's posthumously. Various ABC hosts, both on "World News" and on "Good Morning America," chose the day of Fred Thompson's first 2008 debate to play old Watergate tapes of Richard Nixon deriding the then-attorney as "dumb." It seems as though the media have developed Sudden New Respect Syndrome for the president they used to loathe.
Finally, in celebrity news, so to speak, ABC's Chris Cuomo gushed to ex-President Jimmy Carter that certainly the United States would now appreciate his leadership during the Iran hostages crisis. Over on CBS, "60 Minutes" reporter Scott Pelley highlighted Bush-bashing singer Bruce Springsteen and gushed over his anti-war message.

trying to compensate for the failings of his inept administration since he left
office. Gore has been doing the same thing. Only the terminally stupid
(including the left) have bought into their anti-U.S. bile.

and jump to about 1:30 (okay, the whole thing is fine, too, as it's not long anyway) and...... taste the deliciousness of where we are now in Iraq -- only 5 1/2 months later -- and what this blowhard, self-righteous, self-appointed all-knowing-about-politics/military COMEDIAN (not political anylist... BUT, I will admit he's still funny a lot of the time :p) waxed poetically.... and the blowhard "journalist" across from him who intently listened, gushing and hanging on every word that flowed from Sir Jon Stewart's mouth.
I'd love to be a guest on The Daily Show and play that clip.... just as he loves to play clips non-stop that embarass Bush and co..

October 13, 2007 - 15:12 ET by BlondeNice link.
And it's interesting, don't you think...that those who "make their livings" denigrating all things Republican actually can think?
Your clip made me sit up and think....why, do people who obviously (and yes, Jon Stewart obviously gets the gist of the situation) continue to mock for their own professional aggrandizement?
Where is it...the obvious disconnect in our country? I don't care what one's job is...if I had to go on air, with an understanding like that...I'd refuse. How can this man understand, intrinsically, what is happening, and then make his living being a professional mocker?
Help me out. I don't get it.

October 13, 2007 - 15:26 ET by MrShyThanks!! :)
Yeah, I stumbled upon it while actually looking for video of those 2 gay ninconpoops (sp?) in SF that crashed that Catholic service... it was on O'Reilly last night.
They (the left) loooooove that word, "disconnect". I swear, I only hear it used by liberals... it's funny. I think they like it cuz it's so general and vague, and they don't need facts to throw it around, or so they think (WHEN they think ;))
And yes, I am baffled by people like Jon, who I think is just way too smart to fall in lock-step with the left.... and yeah, your theory is sad but probably true, that he's just going along with whatever keeps him popular and "cool" with his audience... for his career. I've been told, however, that a lot of his mocking material is written by younger, typical leftist writers, and in that sense he's just more like Leno... spitting out the stuff for laughs, and not necessarily agreeing with it all.... perhaps.... (wishful thinking? :p)
BUT... I've seen him countless times on other shows, as a guest, and he comes across quite virtuous in his hatred of Bush and being an opponent of the war.

October 13, 2007 - 15:38 ET by BlondeI clicked on that linked..then backed the hell out.
Anyone who would spend that kind of time an effort, on personal appearance, to mock our military...is not worth my time.
Filthy disgusting hedonistic S.F. low lifes.
I have no time for them.

October 13, 2007 - 17:40 ET by MrShyTo go slightly off-topic, but Jon-related.... that little interview (sarc on and off) with Ms. Cheney sort of went unnnoticed... didn't know she was on the Daily Show until a day or two later.
She is a really cool, smart woman. Jon was civil with her (didn't expect him not to be) but there was a contentious exchange toward the end, regarding (whadda' ya know) Iraq. I'll look for that clip on YouTube....
