Fmr. White House Science Analyst: FNC ‘Racism Cloaked in Thinly Veiled Code’

By Scott Robbins | May 16, 2012 | 11:49

A  A

Jeff Schweitzer wants to help us “rediscover our inherent good, and act accordingly, individually and collectively,” according to a summary of his book, “A New Moral Code.” Unfortunately, that’s going to be difficult in this “new age of McCarthyism” in which the “Fox hydra” is “tearing apart the fabric of our society with vitriol and venom, lies and half-truths.”

Yes, a news network that doesn’t report as he thinks it should is ruining our nation, and presumably interfering with important consideration of our “own biological destiny” that another of Schweitzer’s encourages.

In a recent post on the HuffPost blog, Schweitzer, a scientist turned self-help hack (and, unquestionably, partisan hack) who used to work for Bill Clinton and Al Gore calmly informed readers that "Wild claims, oddball conspiracy theories, hateful rhetoric, racism cloaked in thinly veiled code, and pure fabrication are daily fare on Fox. If the truth is inconvenient, Fox simply manufactures a new reality: faith-based reporting in which facts are optional."

It’s uncertain why any of this should bother Schweitzer since, as co-author of “Beyond Cosmic Dice: Moral Life in a Random World,” he tells readers we all have the “power to create our own meaning.” In fact, in that book, “[t]he authors consider and reject a traditional, often religious, view that life’s meaning and purpose is controlled and manipulated by some unseen force.” Except maybe Roger Ailes or Rupert Murdoch?

In his post, Schweitzer goes on to make some other comments sure to raise an eyebrow. Schweitzer wrote, "Fox repeatedly cries that Obama has raised or will raise taxes. This is the fiscal equivalent of the Red Scare ... But the claim is blatantly false."

But even Politifact cited different taxes Obama raised, such as a tax for those who do not want mandatory health insurance. Obama himself said he wouldn’t raise taxes on those under $250,000. Which would be true, if those making less than $250,000 don’t smoke or go tanning, for starters.

“Yet in spite of [Obama’s] tax cuts only 12 percent of Americans know that Obama cut their taxes. Worse, 24 percent of those surveyed believed their taxes had gone up. Remember, they went down by $116 billion. Fox has managed to not only obscure the truth, but actually invert it.”

Fox News does take first in 24-hour news network ratings, but there are six other major TV news outlets (seven if you count PBS). Could FNC’s misinformation be influencing up to 88 percent of Americans? A look at the ratings from a single, discreet event – President Obama’s most recent State of the Union speech in January shows that an impressive 3.8 million viewers tuned in to the speech on FNC. But 20.6 million watched the speech on ABC, CBS and NBC. Another 5.4 million saw it on MSNBC and CNN. Less than 1 in 7 Americans turned to FNC for the speech.

And on the specific issue of taxes, an actual study using actual scientific methodology said most of the televised propaganda has cut the other way, with the broadcast networks spinning a fairy-tale of Obama the tax-cutter.

But Al Gore’s old science adviser isn’t really interested in science. Schweitzer preferred to present a tendentious list of Fox’s supposed omissions, including all Obama’s wonderful achievements, like allowing “children to remain covered by their parents’ insurance until the age of 26.” (Gosh, who could argue against making taxpayers pick up the tab for helpless 26-year-old children?) And of course it includes many of President Bush’s myriad crimes, (“let loose gun-toting weekend warriors in our national forests”! “Gutted the Endangered Species Act”!)

According to Schweitzer, there aren’t differing interpretations or opinions, just liberal fact and conservative fiction. And conservatives must be made to pay for their fiction. “I hope that I live long enough to see Fox's demise just as McCarthy was eventually discredited, ultimately brought down by the terrible weight of a truth different from the fantasy he created.”

Then maybe Schweitzer can rediscover his inherent good.

The Leftinsky Method

Redefine what truth is and you can win any argument.

To more fully comprehend the Left, one must read “Leftism As Psychopathy” by John Ray, M.A., Ph.D. Caution, it might scare you a little bit.

Does Jeffy think he's Dr. Albert Schweitzer?

Submitted by drsamherman on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 1:15pm.

The similarity ends at the last name.

Jeffy's biography says he has a PhD, presumably in marine biology as that is his main academic interest, but he also flies airplanes called "Malibu Mirages", and has or is publishing a magazine dedicated to them. He also lists on his official website that he and his wife love to travel to see marine wildlife. So in other words, he is already a horrible enviro-crite, falling into that category of such other enviro-crites as Sting and his wife, the idiots from Plane Stupid who tried to overrun Stansted airport on the usual "climate change" dogma but later flew to New York for a similar kind of protest and of course Babs Streisand and her traveling caravan of diesel-guzzling trucks for her endless "goodbye" tours.

Unless Jeffy has a license to practice in a mental health discipline or in medicine, any of his observations about neurocognitive ability in humans are bullcookies. Given that he is hypocrite about his travel, and given that he is essentially prostituting science for his own political agenda, he is as worthless as Al Gore's "carbon credit" legalized theft scheme.

His website is yours to peruse at http://www.jeffschweitzer.com/ , if you care to read his narcissistic screed.

Didn't you get the memo, Doc?

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 2:06pm.

Didn't you get the memo, Doc? Marine Biologists are the "go to" experts in all things psychological, especially when it comes to the psychology of obviously primitive Conservatives. They've been performing studies on the psychology of Octopuses, and Sharks, and other marine animals for decades now. That makes them the consummate expert on those primitive Conservatives! Swimming with the Sharks, and all that.

Liberals, like Obama, on the other had, are far more evolved, psychologically, just as they tell everyone. I mean, really, even Obama himself has evolved in the last three years alone. That means that there is a need for more "evolved" type of "experts" to understand their psychology. Like a Reptile Biologist. Snakes in the grass, and all that.

By the way, just how can the study of Octopuses and their psychology be helpful to us, other than finding a better way of hunting them? I've heard, far to many times, that these "studies" are being done to "better understand Human psychology," as far too many million dollar research grant proposals say, but as I don't have 8 arms and I don't live under water, what does that go to do with ME, or any other human, for that matter? I hate to break it to all those "experts," but dissimilar living environments equates to dissimilar psychological patterns. They are not, can not, be compatible. EVER! Any supposed similarity between, say, an octopus and a human is merely coincidental, for that's how genetics works.

McCarthy was eventually discredited

seeing as how we now KNOW McCarthy was actually correct most of the time I'd like to see how that works out for him.

Agreed, dmacleo

Submitted by UltraC on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 3:00pm.

Maybe Schweitzer missed the release of the Venona documents. I mean, it happened so recently in 1995. Maybe Schweitzer means McCarthy was discredited for underestimating the Communist penetration of the government.

The thing I don't understand is why people like Schweitzer go on and on about FNC, and some others take it a step further and try to get FNC banned. I think MSNBC is raw propaganda for the Obama administration most of the time, but if I don't want to watch, I'll just change the channel. In fact, sometimes, I leave it on: It's very entertaining to see some liberal talking heads work themselves up into an impotent, frothy rage.

Or is Schweitzer concerned the liberal stranglehold on network news is threatened?

I could not remember the document name, boy was I off in what I thought it was too LOL
I think they are scared of FNC, but what I don't get is why they assume every conservative watches it.
I see maybe 20-40 minutes of it a day in the morning and thats it, I get most stuff from reading.
TBH I am too far to the right (social and economic cons) to really like most FNC stuff, so instead of trying to shut it down I shut it off.

I watch Fox News

Submitted by TempusFugit on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 5:57pm.

maybe 10 minutes a week, and it's usually just background noise. But if I ever get into an argument with a liberal outside of Newsbusters their response is "stop watching Faux (or Fixed) News and you'll know the truth!" That's the only argument they have these days. When I tell them I almost never watch Fox they start to splutter, and basically have no counter. Then I administer the coup de grace "stop getting your news from a comedian on the Daily Show!". Game, set, match

BoogeyMan

The left needs a boogey man in all walks of life. When it comes to the media FOX is the boogey man. At best Fox has 3+ million viewer. ABC at it worst has 4+ million plus for it's nightly news.

More leftist implosion

Submitted by Model850 on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 2:40pm.

The left knows their king is an abject failure and daily are seeing the fraud exposed as the woefully inept loser he is, and they are running scared. Just watch "The Five" and see how angry Bob "Blowhard" Beckel has become, sputtering and blustering and calling everyone with whom he disagrees a "liar" and a "punk." A few days ago Beckel actually had the stones to ask the other panelists exactly what qualifications Romney had to be president. I sometimes wish I had a Twitter account just so I could send that moron messages while he's on the air as all too often Bolling and the others just let Beckel spew his lunacy unchallenged.

With nothing valid to offer in defense of the failed would-be dictator the left is resigned to name calling and blame shifting, in this case the evil culprit is FNC. Next week it will be someone else and someone else after that until they cycle back around to GWB and start anew running down their list of who is at fault. The one name you won't see on that list, of course, is their deity.
