Like any respected newspaper, the Albany Times Union wants to bring information regarding regional drug arrests to its readers. So it's no surprise that they would cover a recent drug arrest stemming from a routine traffic stop. And being on top of their game, the Times Union presented this news as a breaking story.
What is surprising, however, is that the Albany newspaper has opted not to call attention to another, more shocking drug arrest in the state's capital.
Perhaps the subject was a bit sensitive, as the arrest involved a 53 year old illegal immigrant from Cuba. Just a few days prior to the aforementioned story, a man was arrested in Albany after investigators found almost 200 bags of heroin in his home.
A heroin dealing illegal immigrant would seem newsworthy enough. But wait, there's more...
Apparently Casanova was running his heroin business in the presence of a one-week old child. Not exactly what one would call a positive contribution to our society. But hey, if you're willing to break the law by living in this country illegally, is it really a huge leap to other criminal tendencies?
The story was certainly of journalistic, if not societal interest. In fact, most of the other major news entities in the Albany area reported the arrest as they should have; including the Schenectady Daily Gazette, WNYT Albany, and Capital News 9.

Our local afternoon paper
July 15, 2008 - 19:13 ET by DEVILDOCMOMthe Tucson Citizen, just ran a big bleeding heart story about a poor illegal thrown in jail and his children had to fend for themselves. Of course he was thrown in jail for drunk driving, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. We sure want people like this in our country. The emphasis of the story was on the kids. Tho' there was family in town (this took place in Phoenix) they did not immediately step in to help. Oh, and mom was off in another state.
Ah, yes, another person coming for opportunities and wanting to contribute...
AMNESTY brings overpopulation...
July 15, 2008 - 19:28 ET by BrittanicusWe should endorse the federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) that would add real,
razor sharp teeth to state immigration laws. We need more enforcement
to stop the interdiction of trucks bringing in drugs and illegal
immigrants into America. Funding is being cut by the Democrats, so they
can gut the border fence and stop the enactment of the Federal SAVE
ACT.
An army of ICE agents, twenty thousand more border patrol along
with massive funding, to supply helicopters, spy probes and other
equipment for internal enforcement. This will include extra funding for
police departments around the country, to train more officers in
Immigration enforcement. The e-verify data base the Fed's
are using has a 90.5 success rate. It would be a major deterrent
against pariah employers, who hire illegal workers.
Its pennies of what
taxpayers are unknowingly spending now. We need 'no tolerance'
enforcement, that will give maximum arrest and detainment of predator
employers of illegal immigrants.

I agree with you and I went
July 16, 2008 - 01:03 ET by jdhawkI agree with you and I went to the website that you mentioned, signed up and sent a free fax from their web site to my representative.
To everyone, this web site is attempting to stop illegal aliens. Upon registering for their web site, they will send a fax for free to your representative.
Here is what they are sending:
Dear [This fax will go to Your Three Members of Congress]
Please oppose any amnesties for illegal aliens.
Granting amnesty to illegal aliens will only encourage more
illegal aliens to come to the country. Our nation is suffering from
this influx of illegal aliens: our schools are overcrowded, our
hospitals are operating at above capacity, and the environment is
hurting. If these reasons don't convince you, then the negative effect
that illegal immigration has on the number of unemployed Americans
should.
The border needs to be secured and our current immigration laws
need to be enforced. This is the only viable way to end our illegal
immigration woes.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Will Appear Here]
