Tearful Coverage for Rep. Ellison

By Rudy Takala | March 11, 2011 | 16:46

A  A

Amid the media's vilification of Rep. Peter King, their continuing coverage of Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison's "tearful struggle" stands in stark contrast.

"Amid the raw feelings of Thursday's House hearings on domestic Islamic radicalization, Rep. Keith Ellison could not fight back the tears" as he recounted a story about Mohammed Salman Hamdani. Rep. Ellison "choked up and spoke haltingly of how some tried to 'smear' Hamdani because of his faith," declared the Minneapolis Star Tribune on March 10. The manner in which Hamdani was defamed, and the identities of the guilty, has remained ambiguous to date.

Echoing Rep. Ellison's Twitter post "America is big enuf for all of us," USA Today declared "Rep. Keith Ellison" has made it clear "America is big enough for us all." Cursorily noting that "Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y. vowed not to bow to 'political correctness,'" it went on to give an in-depth reaction provided by a talk show host based out of Minnesota: "As I was wiping my tears," she said, "I was thinking what is it about my faith that is not being accepted as an American? My faith? My scarf? My ethnicity?"

Absent from all of the media's coverage of Rep. Ellison's weeping is the Title 1 of Section 102 in the Patriot Act passed by Congress after 9/11:

Many Arab Americans and Muslim Americans have acted heroically during the attacks on the United States, including Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a 23-year-old New Yorker of Pakistani descent, who is believed to have gone to the World Trade Center to offer rescue assistance and is now missing.

It seems absurd to keep reporting on the fact that Rep. Ellison broke down in tears over an alleged perception of Mr. Hamdani without also noting the facts as they were codified into law. What someone should be reporting on is the fact that Rep. Ellison did not tell both sides of the story.

When Rep. Ellison first ran for the Minnesota Legislature under the name Keith Ellison-Muhammad in 1998, he was a self-identified member of the Nation of Islam. It wasn't until 2002 that he won a seat as the mere Keith Ellison. As a third-year student at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1989-90, Ellison wrote two columns for the Minnesota Daily under the name "Keith Hakim."

You can read about the many activities that Rep. Ellison engaged in under those names in this 2006 article from the Weekly Standard. Among other things, he helped out with a Minneapolis gang front known as "United for Peace," a group suspected of murdering police officers. Ellison is on record as leading the gang at rallies in chants of "We don't get no justice, you don't get no peace."

Rep. Ellison is an unlikely candidate to talk about the peaceful nature of Muslims in America. That is the real news, yet it is unfortunately news on which the media is not focusing.

No wonder Ellison is upset!

How DARE they smear Mr. Hamdani by actually paying tribute to him personally in the Patriot Act!!

It's Ellison who's using this man's name in an attempt to score political points, and he should be ashamed.

Crocodile tears.

Made me sick...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Fri, 03/11/2011 - 5:19pm.

That was my reaction to Ellison's "tears"...What crap, and what a performance.

This pos seems to change his name with his underwear...Ellison, Muhammad, Hakim...Wonder what he'll call himself next...He likely figured out (especially after 9/11), that he'd better drop the Muslim name crap that he'd been using, if he ever wanted to get elected to something. The fact that he used to be a self-identified member of the Nation of Islam (and may still be as far as we know) makes him, in my book, a completely reprehensible person and totally unworthy to be in the House.

With a checkered, radical background like Ellison's, no wonder the MSM is kissing his butt...He's just their kind of guy.

Disgusting.

Gosh, I wonder if all the talking heads in the media will mock him like they did Boehner? Nah, probably not. Also, for all those dems who are screaming "Islamophobia!!", I have a question for you. Why is it you felt it worthy to haul oil executives in for a hearing for high gas prices, but you don't support a hearing into a group of people who have killed thousands of Americans?????

Submitted by grammajane on Fri, 03/11/2011 - 5:42pm.

When tears came to the eyes of Boehner while speaking of his compasion for America, the local "news reporters? in MN. laughed and thought it to be so funny. Then this Ellison guy crys like a baby and he is " so caring and emotionable" and feels so bad his muslim belief is being distorted. A gang, following muslim beliefs , executed a police-officer back in the 90"s while he was eating dinner at a local diner. Three different names.....don't states do any background checks on these so-called reps??

He can't man-up. His lot in life, and in politics is to be the perpetual victim.

He needs to practice his crying, though.  Nancy Pelosi wasn't very good at crying either.  Maybe Beck and Boehner can teach him.

"I was thinking what is it about my faith that is not being accepted as an American? My faith? My scarf? My ethnicity?" No Keith, it's not those. What is it???? Well gee, lets think for a minute. Maybe it has something to do with flying planes into buildings killing over 3000 Americans, or the bombings in Bali, Madrid and London, or maybe it's the desire to wipe Israel from the face of the earth. Not to mention the honour killings, beatings and rapes all committed in the name of Allah. Or perhaps it's the persecution of Christians, Jews, homosexuals or anyone else that isn't a muslim. Actually your "faith" is really best summed up by this little film http://www.jihadwatch.org/2008/03/here-is-fitna.html
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill

SOMETHING RADICAL - THE TRUTH...

Submitted by JPTSO3 on Sat, 03/12/2011 - 11:55am.

At the hearings on Radicalization of American Muslims, Rep. Ellison felt it necessary to blubber over the memory of Mohammad Salman Hamdani. Hamdani died on 911 with hundreds of other First Responders and his remains were found near the north tower months later. Hamdani was also a Muslim. The media made a big deal about Ellison wailing over Hamdani's memory and depending on the station you watched viewers could see other members of Congress (like Loretta Sanchez) wipe tears from their eyes.

I saw the whole Ellison weep-a-thon and found it, disconcerting. It wasn’t because he started the waterworks over someone he clearly never knew; it was the source of his information that was most troubling. Ellison read from an 8 year old New York Times obituary, and article from which he quoted directly. It recounted that Hamdani was a nice kid and bright, and proud of being in America -and he had responded on 911 and died under the ruble of the North Tower.

But the Times obituary didn’t stop there. It also claimed “some people” rumored that Hamdani might have been connected to the attack. My response?… Ahhhhmm…really? Who are these “some people”? Are they the same “ some people” who believe there’s a planet Pandora and it’s populated with blue Indians with coaxial tails? Maybe it’s the same “some people” who think Rosie Donnell is attractive, or believe Charlie Sheen is sane. “Some people” is an amorphous, easy-to-invent catch-all for "I’ve got nothin”, so it wasn’t too hard to stack the horse pies together and start smelling a load of crap.

The New York Times article claimed in the final paragraph (about the point Ellison couldn’t continue without biting his knuckles through his sobs) that:

“Months later the truth came out. Mr. Hamdani’s remains had been found near the north tower, and he had gone there to help people he did not know”.

How did “the truth” come out  AFTER  his remains were found? Was Hamdani clutching a note that said: “I’m here to help people I didn’t know”?

Yeah… well, the problem with Mr. Ellison’s sob story and his source is, the timeline  doesn’t add up - of the thousands who died on 911, and the hundreds of First Responders who perished, Hamdani was named, specifically, in the Patriot Act. It reads:

…Muslim Americans have acted heroically during the attacks on the United States, including Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a 23-year-old New Yorker of Pakistani descent, who is believed to have gone to the World Trade Center to offer rescue assistance and is now missing”

The Patriot act was passed about 7 weeks after the attack. Hamdani’s remains were not found for months. The obituary was written in March of 2003. The point being, if Hamdani was nationally honored as a hero within weeks,  did the crack Jimmy Olsen reporters  at the Times just not get the memo?  Those “some people” the Times (and Ellison) bawled over, were (and are) never identified. Were they the same fantasy people who conspired with Jarod Loughner? Perhaps they’re the same secret agent “some people” who blew up the Twin Towers and Building 7. Charlie Sheen has “some people” inhabiting his brain – maybe someone should ask him. I’m sure the Times didn’t make stuff up, just to take a political jab… Jayson Blair was still working for the Gray Lady in March of 2003. Maybe Blair, the Times’ journalistic pantheon for the truth was inventing lies about “some people” while he was plagiarizing for his made-up articles.

Of Ellison’s public breakdown, NPR wrote:

“After the tragedy,” Ellison continued, his voice breaking, “some people tried to smear his character … solely because of his Islamic faith. Some people spread false rumors and speculated that he was in league with the attackers because he was a Muslim. But it was only when his remains were identified that these lies were exposed.”

So, Representative Ellison adopted The New York Times’ “some people” canard and ran with it. But Ellison’s consternation (for someone he never met) wasn’t based on bigotry of his religion, rather bigotry for the truth.

Radical… huh?

Very well written version of this counter-story which I have read at least five times now on the internet and some with actual links. Should I know start holding my breath until the MSM covers the other angle of the story - the one containing facts and a true time line.
