IBD Blasts Award for ABC’s Hyped Coverage of Runaway Toyotas
Investor’s Business Daily is out this morning with an editorial slamming the decision last week to award ABC News with an “Edward R. Murrow Award” for the network’s investigation into the sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles, despite ABC using a staged shot of a tachometer revving to 6000 rpm (the footage came from a parked car, not one suddenly accelerating).
Months after ABC’s hyped coverage, federal investigators with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and NASA reported no evidence of problems with Toyota’s systems.
IBD points out:
Thanks to the media's fear mongering, the world's largest carmaker took a vicious public relations and financial blow. Its share of the U.S. market fell from 17% to 15%, and when Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said that anybody owning "one of these vehicles" should "stop driving it," Toyota's stock fell 20%.
[Correspondent Brian] Ross by himself did not drive down Toyota's market value and sales. But he's the correspondent who staged the famous "death ride" in a Toyota set up to accelerate without driver input. And it was Ross' report that featured a doctored shot of a tachometer suddenly racing to 6,000 rpm.
Because of his coverage, Ross and the Toyota story became virtually synonymous. Meanwhile, contemporary journalism is becoming synonymous with farce.

Still liove Toyota

My family still drives Toyotas, probably always will. No other auto manufacterer makes an automobile as dependable as Toyota. The Obama administration tried to destroy Toyota but I am happy to say most Toyota owners are still very happy with their vehicles.
Just another reason broadcast tv is no longer trusted to tell the truth about ANYTHING.

I myself am a Nissan man, but Toy's are pretty well built as well as Honda.
Growing up a Chevy man and rooting for the late great Dale Earnhardt, it really stinks knowing that American made just can't compete with the Asian market.
I do own a Cadi, and it's remarkable. Just don't know if it could keep up with the imports tho.

This couldn't be about the fact that Toyotas are built in non-union states, could it NLRB?

The Radio Television Digital News Association has confirmed, in perfect detail, the claim that ABC News cannot be trusted to simple tell the truth.
Absurd gossip is now cherished by The Radio Television Digital News Association as journalistic news. IF ABC News had any integrity at all, they would refuse this award and tell the people the truth.
Why would anyone ever believe any alledged investigative report they produce in the future?
It is all part of the liberal agenda

Liberals give liberals awards so they can continue to lie to the American people that they are an award winning (always wrong) news agency. Most of the once respected awards are now in like the Nobel, Oscar, Emmy and so forth have become jokes as the liberals gain control of them and award them not for merit but for the proper politcal correctness.
This is just another story of a dying media and a decadent political philosophy.
reving engines, exploding gas tanks..... another typical day

NBC faked the GM pickup truck exploding gas tank footage. Another one faked the effects of military hardball ammo and firing rate from an AKS using an AK-47 and rigged up frag bullets. Etc., etc., etc.
Just another day in the Make Believe Media. Ho Hum. Z-z-z-z-z-z.

Perhaps this is the most fitting tribute to the career of Edward R. Murrow that we could invent? The piece was a shoddy piece of garbage. What a match!

Somehow there has got to be a way, legallly speaking, of holding media responsible for staging and faking things like this in their stories.
YEP MORE faked news for the sheeple...... BUT was it political?.

I think it was! Let us put into a time context of when this happened. The American Automobile Companies were taking a beating and the "messiah" Obama had just bailed out GM and whatever that other one was. So what happens all of a sudden their main competitors cars turn Deadly!! Guiding the American people back to focus on maybe buying an American car. Of course we had Cash for Clunkers during that as well and what cars got Junked? Jeeps and other American cars! What cars were bought to replace them? Toyota and Honda! Yes I am accusing ABC of being in Collusion with the White House to make Toyota look bad so Americans would buy more US made cars. I ACCUSE ABC of PURPOSELY developing this story to ASSIST the WHITE HOUSE! I ACCUSE THEM of making a POLITICAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE OBAMA ADMIISTRATION without having to declare it as such! We found out later that in fact there really was NOTHING WRONG and that it was a FALSE STORY!
Hope they get sued. I

Their news and especially their editorials are far superior to anything that ever appears in the NY Times. WaPo is almost as bad as the Times (they still do a decent job allowing strong Republicans to get published in their editorials, but their 'news' and columnists are a joke).
For that matter, the NY Post is a far more reliable source of news than the NY Times.
