MRC's Worst of the Week: "Strange Extremists" vs. Our "Effective Hero" Pelosi
With less than two weeks before Election Day, the media elite continue to disparage the GOP’s Tea Party candidates while saluting the greatness of the über-unpopular Democratic Congress and its leader, Nancy Pelosi.
On This Week, ABC’s Christiane Amanpour — apparently oblivious to the decades of liberal mockery hurled at Ronald Reagan and William Buckley — cited those leaders as exemplifying “a long and venerable tradition” of “intellectual conservatism.” Her goal was to insult today’s conservatives: “People are looking at the Tea Party and saying this is not conservatism as we knew it, but it’s extreme.” Conservative George F. Will educated Amanpour: “Which is exactly what they said about Bill Buckley...”
Reporters continue to use any perceived gaffe to smear the entire movement. “We’ve been seeing a spate of strange claims from Tea Party candidates,” CBS’s Nancy Cordes insisted on Wednesday’s Early Show. Cordes claimed Delaware candidate Christine O’Donnell “appeared unaware of one of the Constitution’s most basic tenets,” but her evidence was a clip of O’Donnell stating — correctly — that the words “separation of church and state” do not appear in the Constitution.
Despite the hilariously low job approval ratings for Congress — 18%, according to CBS; 23% according to the Associated Press — journalists from those news organizations each churned out a fawning review. “The session of Congress now drawing to a close was the most productive in nearly half a century,” the AP’s Jim Abrams touted Monday.
On CBS’s Sunday Morning, correspondent Rita Braver applauded House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as “one of the most effective speakers in congressional history,” “a hero in some quarters,” and “the irresistible force who marshaled House Democrats to pass controversial administration policies — including the stimulus package, Wall Street reform, and health care.”
CBS’s Lesley Stahl popped up on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Monday to fret how the dreadful economy is hurting Obama’s image, as if his administration’s policies are thoroughly unrelated: ”He’s fighting an economy that just won’t give him anything....No credit. No credit at all for what he’s accomplished.”
Two years ago, the media were undeniably tilted in Obama’s favor. Now, they’re just as skewed against a public that’s rejecting his liberal experiments.

For the make believe media, when it comes to Ears and his fellow Spend-o-crats, it's see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil! Instead, the media protects the Dems and demonizes anyone who dares to challenge them, especially the Tea Party crowd. It's too predictable, unfortunately. I suspect that Election Night will become yet another DNC pep rally...

I would not be at all surprised if on election night the MSM virtually ignores (R) wins and focuses mainly on any seats the dems manage to save.
"So-and-so staved off a hard-fought challenge in their district to preserve that seat for the Democrats in the House. Republicans were downcast and disappointed in failing to unseat the popular representative, but exit polls indicated that voters mostly were turned off by the radical message and extremism of the Republican challenger."

The left is in a complete state of denial from everything to Juan Williams admitting that most rational people are wary of getting bitten by the same dog twice to , oh, I don't know, every damn thing. Recently a co-worker commented to me about O'Donnell's alleged ignorance concerning the first amendment, when I told him the phrase "separation of church and state" is not a distinction made in the First Amendment, he said "I know". So, I had to wonder "what's you're freakin' point then?". Facts are irrelevant to libs as long as they have somewhere to stick the knife.

You've got to wonder if these media types know how clueless they sound. I realize they only talk to each other but really.... they need to get out more and meet real Americans. But then of course, when they do go out among real Americans they feel like explorers who meet aboriginal natives living some strange and superstitious culture.

An arrogant Catholic cardinal, in the days before Vatican II, was asked what the role of the laity was in the church. The snotty cardinal answered, "They need to pray, pay, and obey." That's precisely the attitude of the media, only they skip the prayer. The audience is required to pay and obey, and the media wants nothing more from us.
The liberal media is a one-way conversation, which means it isn't a conversation at all. The media speak at (or down) to the public, and they disdain what the public says in return. They constantly insult their audience, but then they can't fathom why they're losing audience constantly.

I'm starting to see some parallels between our beloved Prog/Lib/Dem movement and Islam.
Islam is against the killing of innocents - innocents being those submitting to Islam. Prog/Lib/Dem's - those who submit to progressivism.
A Muslim never speaks against another Muslim to a non-Muslim without a fatwā. Prog/Lib/Dem's - same thing, right Juan Williams?
Actually, I'm not 'just' starting to see them. The parallels are now becoming so obvious everyone can see them.
I have one question about the MSM

Why do they do this? Either they are so out of touch that that don't realize how far to left they really are, or they are willfully trying to mislead the public by presenting the progressive movement as mainstream rather then the far-left radical movement with violent extremist connections that it is.
Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

1) I would look for an Axis I diagnosis leaning towards a mixed dissociative / mood disorder like major depressive episode of acute bipolarity - think of the rather strange picture of someone being elated following a death in the family - what we used to call a discordant emotional reaction to an acute stressor episode. In this case, the mixed anxiety of the polls indicating a probable shift in control of congress followed by the realization that the president they elected has not proven to be the messiah they made him out to be.
2) I would dig farther for an accompanying Axis II personality disorder - in this case again a mixed dissociative / attention-seeking borderline personality disorder symptomatology. Case in point: Grayson. Prone to saying things that are so outrageous simply to draw attention but are not grounded at all in reality.
3) The neurologist in me says to look for an organic disease process that underlies the Axis I/II parallels. Too many to list.

everyone knows Pelosi is a drip, muslims attacked the twin towers, so no amount of new information is going to change anyone's mind, but it will reinforce a negative attitude towards the democrats (Pelosi) and the muslims.

WILL SECULAR SOCIALISM LOSE?There are many cute and fuzzy names for the last few decades of Democrat Party “principles”. The actual factual as close as you can get to it description of their huge gov-meant, higher and higher taxes plus secularizing of the nation is SECULAR SOCIALISM. This was the political path of Castro and now Chavez to name a couple of ruthless thugs with “all the answers” on the “utopia quiz”. Now the national democrats prefer the mythical term “progressive” as if secular socialism ever caused any nation to “progress”. Ask the Miami cubans about how “progressive” Cuba is now.
In order to “sell fire to a scarecrow” the national democrats must (they have no choice) sell their secular socialism “fire” to the scarecrows (voters) using distractions. lies and smears. They simply cannot sell this toxic philosophy on its merits. This is why you hear them change the subject whenever a serious question is asked. This is why they run from microphones and belittle inquiring voters. They have no choice. The true nature of “fire” can never be revealed to the “scarecrow”. You see this almost daily year after year. Its some demon, its some smear, its some bold lie, its some unspecified “special interest” and so on. They simply rope-a-dope around until the buzzer goes off.
Many democrats are so terrified of actually having to defend secular socialism they will not go on Fox News. Imagine a political figure so cowardly insecure they tremble at questions or meltdown at follow-up questions. Does that seem the least bit sane to a thinking voter? Is it logical? Would you vote for that person? Keep in mind secular socialism is not logical and has failed in country after country.
Demo-liberals are also terrified of logic, of historical fact and any fair debate. You can put all the economic facts on the table and its matters not.
Their religion is secular socialism. The democrat commandments are:
Thou shalt not defend secular socialism but always attack. Thou shall treat minorities as helpless dolts and take them to the polls with orders to vote for my Party. Thou shall consider voters junior high dropouts. Thou shall ignore the basic laws of economics. Thou shall blame America first. Thou shall manipulate media to avoid real fact-checking. Thou shall pretend tax cuts cost but illegal immigration pays. Thou shall mock people of faith. Thou shall hide the content of bills and their true costs from voters. Thou shall find demons to blame to cover the results of policies. Thou shall speak vaguely and boldly pontificate. Thou shall always accuse the “other Party” of what we are doing or have done for years without scrutiny. Thou shall have no ethical or moral boundaries when dealing with those challenging secular socialism.
Thou shall impose many laws but exempt ourselves and donating groups. Thou shall always divide Americans into subgroups and play them against one another to empower my Party. Thou shall create dependency and stifle freedom to empower the government.
Who do they think they are fooling with this dimwit playbook?
