Eco-Protestors Push Occupy Language at UN Event

By Paul Wilson | June 22, 2012 | 13:27

A  A

Environmentalist groups have adopted the language of the failed Occupy movement in order to complain about UN inaction over what they say is an impending environmental catastrophe. Protesters even went so far as to tear up the approved text in a special ceremony.

The Vatican blocked language in the UN preliminary text for the Rio+20 environmental summit, titled “The Future We Want,” which called for universal access to “reproductive health services.” The deleted language (in bold) read: "We emphasize that sustainable development must be inclusive and people-centered, benefiting and involving all people, including youth and children. We recognize that gender equality and women’s empowerment [, including through access to reproductive health services – US; G77, Holy See delete] are important for sustainable development and our common future."

In a petition titled “The Future We Don’t Want,” one thousand NGOs (non-governmental organizations), institutions, and individuals decried the altered language of the UN text, complaining that “governments are unable and unwilling to reaffirm the commitments on fundamental principles they made it Rio in 1992.” The groups even parroted the language of the Occupy Movement, declaring: “We urge our fellow 99% citizens of the world to stand up for the future we really want, and not this one, imposed by a few: the 1% negotiators and their elite constituencies.”

The use of the 99% language by these groups is curious, considering the self-destruction of the Occupy Movement. It is also spurious – if 99% of the world really wanted “reproductive health” advances, than how could any small, elite group block the wishes of the world?

It is difficult to see what environmentalist activists are complaining about. In the final version of the preliminary text for the Rio+20 conference, the UN called for “working towards universal access” to “family planning” and “gender equality,” declaring in paragraph 146: “We will work actively to ensure that health systems provide the necessary information and health services addressing the sexual and reproductive health of women, including working towards universal access to safe, effective, affordable and acceptable modern methods of family planning, as this is essential for women's health and advancing gender equality.”

Apparently, one thousand groups want to emulate the hysteria and the failures of the Occupy movement.

It's amazing how these people, these eco-nuts(ALL of them) have just absolutely no sense of reality.  How in the world do they survive day to day living?

If Darwinism is to be believed, how the hell are these people still alive and kicking?

They have a goal: world-wide socialism under the UN. .

You focus on the mobs but the real action is going on in the member nations of the UN that are implimenting the UN global agenda. UN Agenda 21 is the sustainabilists blueprint for achieving their goal. http://www.bing.com/search?q=stop%20agenda%2021&PQ=stop%20agenda%2021&SP...

In the case of socialist wannabe's, they will all end up getting less than what they want. The King of America is so incompetent, he will not even be able to run a socialist system right. Ya'll are doomed.

It's "United Nations" not "United Citizens"

Submitted by JeffC... on Fri, 06/22/2012 - 1:50pm.

Sure, their language is lofty, but when an organization makes a despotic dictatorship an equivalent of a free democracy, the language is made meaningless.

Heck, the Commies ignore their own constitutions, why should they honor UN documents?

Oh, and we also mustn't mention what the peaceful Muslims do to women in the areas they control. We're to busy condemning democratic Israel.

The future you won't get.

Submitted by CobraMan on Fri, 06/22/2012 - 1:52pm.

I still can't believe that over 50,000 people took part in the "preliminary meetings." All that work, and for nothing! This is going to turn out the same way it did last time, and the time before that, and the time before that. The individual counties will object over something in the proposes resolution, and no resolution will happen, other that the resolution to try it again next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. This is nothing more a perpetual circle jer... Well, you get the idea.

Mr. Wilson did you attend the Rio +20 UN conference?

Submitted by lrgon on Sun, 06/24/2012 - 12:46pm.

Were you there in person to interview the event spokesmen? Did you talk to the few that attended that were not in cohoots with the UN driven sustainable model? People like Lord Monckton who has given the sustainabilists fits for years was there to give the other side of the story. Did you interview him? And why so little in your blog about Agenda 21? Is that coming later or are you unfamilar about the UN model to rewild the rural areas and force all the people in those farms and ranches into "sustainable" cities? http://www.iclei.org/index.php?id=1185

Did you run across Bill Jasper and Alex Newman who did attend and have posted news reports and interviews from Rio+20? http://www.thenewamerican.com/rio-20

These conservative correspondents were there to report on the scene. Were you there also on the scene to expose the "think globally" syndrome; to expose the movers and shakers and the money they pour into their organization?

You allude that there is no need to worry about those who organize these events but you don't report that hundreds of US cities' mayors and city governments have already joined hands with the UN "sustainability" people via their International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. They have the money and the organization to push their agenda intitiatives and have done it under the radar for 20 plus years.

To tell your readers that Rio+20 is just another "occupy" event leaves out the fact that the UN sustainabilists have "occupied" with their agenda thousands of cities, towns and villages worldwide getting the local governments to impliment down to the T the UN agenda.

ooookay....

Submitted by Paul Wilson on Mon, 06/25/2012 - 4:33pm.

I'm not sure where you're getting the impression that I believe that "there is no need to worry about those who organize these events." I wrote this piece (which landed on Drudge, btw)

http://cnsnews.com/blog/paul-wilson/un-official-western-nations-dont-nee...

As for the rest of your comments, my piece was not meant to be an overview of Rio+20, per se - it was meant to outline a specific event protesting the conference, and including extraneous information about Agenda 21 would have not have been relevant to the subject of the article.
