Political Cartoonist: Contraception Debate’s About Controlling You
Chalk another one up for media anti-Catholic bigotry.
Syndicated editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich, working for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, created a cartoon bashing the Catholic Church for controlling women. The cartoon features a wizened old bishop in a confessional, saying to a woman that “The contraception debate’s about controlling you.” The cartoon has the caption “Confession” at the bottom.
Luckovich’s implied argument is false, of course. Contraceptive access is hardly a problem in America. But the HHS mandate decrees that religious employers be forced to pay insurance companies that pay for birth control. Many that self-insure must essentially pay directly for treatments, including the “morning after” pill.
Contraception is against the teachings of the Catholic Church, and has been since the Church's foundation. By forcing employers to subsidize a product they and many of their employees hold to be immoral, the government is forcing the Church to violate its own beliefs. The contraception debate really is about control – the government trying to control the Catholic Church, not the Church trying to control Catholic women.
But Luckovich’s cynical bigotry in depicting the Catholic hierarchy as control freaks is even more troubling than his flawed logic. Would Luckovich’s cartoon have been published, if he had depicted an imam, talking about burqas being designed to control Islamic women? For that matter, would any cartoon featuring Islamic imams in a negative light – as Catholics are frequently depicted – be tolerated?
Somehow, it seems unlikely. But anti-Catholic bigotry is clearly acceptable to newspaper editors.

I've been in Atlanta since I was little, and this dope Luckovich hasn't changed one bit. Once in a blue moon he puts aside partisanship and does a decent comic (like showing Lewis Grizzard being greeted at the Pearly Gates by his favorite dog), but the rest of the time his pen might as well be handled by whomever's helming the DNC at the moment.

I lived in Atlanta for ver 14 years and still read the AJC on line. Luckovich has always been hateful. He claims to be a Catholic which is a joke and always has been a joke as he distorts the truth with the typical lies from the leftist wackos in our society.

forty years, and even I have never cared for Luckovich: Unfunny, not particularly talented, and way overrated, imo.

...all of us eventually, is perfectly fine with the editors at the Al-Jazeera Urinal Constipation.
So I guess the radio commercials we here in Atlanta have been hearing lately about how "balanced" the AJC is going to now be are pretty much steaming BolShoi.
Wow, what a shock.

So freedom of speech only goes one way with the left.
The HHS edict is clearly an attempt to strip American churches of the right of conscience. To say otherwise, is simply a lie. Contraceptives are easy to get, find, and cheaper than a a double quarter pounder with fries. Most health plans never paid for them, since they cost less than the average deductible.
none of that matters to the anti-Catholic bigots and their holy war against the church.
The mandate is a ruse to force employers to not only cover condoms and IUD's.. but the morning after abortion pill, and plain old fashioned abortion on demand. They will not admit that, they lie and say it's just about rubbers when it's not. It's about forcing the church to fund abortions, and about destroying the right of conscience. It's about making the government the sole source of ethical and moral decisions, and if you don't like that.. either go out of business or go to jail.
The pro-death advocates are liars.. it's about destroying the largest bastion of moral beliefs a\opposed to abortion. If they can't win the argument of the heart.. (polls show the younger generations are becoming much more pro-life).. then crush them with the butt of a government agencies gun. The pro-death advocates have consistently lied, year after year,.. and now this idiot fake war on women is their dying gasp. The public doesn't buy it, women are moving to Romney not away the more these fools play the hate card. Abortion may still be legal... but the public over and over rejects public funding for it. This is the ultimate lie... tell the public and women they are trying to take away the pill, condoms and IUD's... and bury the truth about what we are trying to force the church to pay for...
Then mock the faithful for standing up for their freedom of religion.. take away their 1st Amendment rights.. and laugh about it.. ha ha...
and the more they mock our faith.. the worse they do in the arena of public opinion.
Most diseases destroy from within.

"He claims to be a Catholic"
Yeah, but, Judas claimed to be an apostle and Satan claims to be an angel.
The worse anti-Catholic folks this faithful Catholic knows are the ones inside the Church. In the words of Paul VI "The smoke of Satan has entered the tabernacle"
This Catholic is well aware of the Satanic "Trojan Horse" elements "within" its hallowed walls, whether it is those jesuits with uzis spreading their liberation theology and booing JPII in Nicaragua, or those radical nuns who long ago in their souls left God's church, or those Pelosi-ized politicians who loath the Church they claim as theirs, or those enlightend clerics who at Notre Dame, honored America's most pro-culture of death president in history. They need prayers and forgiveness "For they know not what they do."
But admonishment of their error is essential.
