Occupy Movement Turns to Comic Book Writers for Support
Supporters of the Occupy Movement are stepping up their efforts to become even more comical than they are already. They have taken to the comic book world to spread their message, starting what they call Occupy Comics.
Matt Pizzolo, organizer of Occupy Comics, wrote of the project: "This book is intended to be a time capsule of the passions and emotions driving the movement. We are comic book & graphic novel artists and writers who've been inspired by the movement and hope to tell the stories of the people who are out there putting themselves at risk for an idea."
The Occupy Movement has already been heavily influenced by the comic book industry. V for Vendetta imagery figures prominently in the Occupy Wall Street movement. Guy Fawkes masks, which in the V for Vendetta comic books are worn by an anarchist antihero who attempts to destroy a totalitarian government, have been adopted by protesters as a symbol of their defiance of authority. The hacker group Anonymous identifies itself with Fawkes imagery. (Guy Fawkes was a real person who plotted to blow up Parliament in 1605.)
Numerous comic book writers have joined this project, including Alan Moore and David Lloyd, co-creators of the original V for Vendetta comic book. According to Wired, Pizzolo said that, "It's fair to say that Alan Moore and David Lloyd are unofficial godfathers of the current protest movement."
Moore himself is a fan of radical movements, arguing of the 60’s protests: "And when the state started to take us seriously and initiated countermeasures, the majority of us folded like bitches. Not all of us, but a good number. We weren't up for the struggle that had sounded so great in our manifestos."
It is doubtful whether Moore and others have examined their own rhetoric. The proceeds from the sales of Guy Fawkes masks worn by protesters go to benefit the Time Warner corporation. Since the movement is ostensibly opposed to big business, the irony is delicious and speaks volumes. But the OWS movement has always struggled to define its goals, and Occupy Comics is no exception. The about section of its website states: "This is an attempt to add the voices of comic book artists and writers to the chorus of 'We are the 99%.' That's all we know so far."

And, NYU turns to the Occutards.

I found this gem this morning, "NYU's Department of Social and Cultural Analysis will be offering a course on Occupy Wall Street next semester. The class will cover a wide range of topics, including the dialectics of defecating on cop cars, the gender politics of female-bodied persons trapped in a male-bodied "persons' mic," and paid protesting for dummies. Professor Lisa Duggan tells Washington Square News, "Occupy Wall Street has done us all the service of illuminating [the fact] that the economy operates within the framework of political, social and cultural conflicts, and not outside them." And it's high time kids got college credit for it!
"The dialectics of defecating on a cop car"? It's high time kids got college credit for it"? These people are much farther around the bend than I thought was possible. Actually, it's reported that NYU will offer two under-grad courses and one post-grad course on the Occutard movement.

You do realize...

that the first paragraph is a joke. The gothamist is a snarky NY news blog. The class is definitely real, but they aren't covering topics like "the dialectics of defecating on cop cars".
Also, "It's high time kids got college credit" is also a joke. You can think the course is stupid, but don't lump gothamist's snarky journalism in with the crime.
Really, if they're covering the Occutards,

then I would guess they'll sanitize the course to eliminate that which most of us know really happened? An occutard did defecate on a police car, so that makes it a part of OWS. And, I realize that Duggan wasn't quoted, I picked up on that when I saw that "it's high time" remark wasn't in quotes.
Wonderful idea, this course, among others, but it appears this is actually only for the 1%. Seeing as how undergrads at NYU pay $1,156 per credit hour. These people go to the #2 most expensive school in the country, then wonder why they have massive loan debt when they either graduate or drop out? Brilliant!!
And,thanks so much for letting me think the course is stupid, which I do, with or without your approval.

DEMS MOVE TO BAN 'OCCUPY' FROM 2012 CONVENTION
I'm a little surprised at this, given the obvious connection between Obama's class warfare angle and the Occupy Movement. I wonder if the progressive organizers have signalled an inability to assert enough control over these crowds to guarantee a positive spin on any Occupy Charlotte gatherings.
I have my doubts that the city of Tampa is quite as concerned, however.
They could play it either

They could play it either way.............they've got some (purported) success out of the whole charade - or at least the average dummy THINKS they did, so the Dems can use that to further their propaganda, with willing help from the MSM. And the Dems don't want them coming around the convention, because they might 'bust' their whole sham by acting the same way that they did at these bowel movements. In fact - the Dems might have some stealth planning to get the OWS people to disrupt the Republican convention - I wouldn't put that past them.
Any way you cut it, the OWS WAS instigated and activated by operatives and supporters of Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Obama, and he DID put his support behind them - along with a number of other Dems - so we had BETTER hammer this one for all it's worth, because the MSM will poo-poo the whole thing and conveniently forget about the real origins of it.
