Troubled by Christianity, Iranian Regime Destroys Bibles

By Patrick Goodenough | August 26, 2011 | 23:28

A  A

A Shi’ite cleric affiliated with the Iranian regime has warned about the “danger”  of Christianity spreading in the Islamic republic. This come amid reports of an anti-Christianity propaganda campaign and the seizure of thousands of Bibles.

According to Mohabat News, an independent Iranian Christian news agency, Ayatollah Hadi Jahangosha expressed concern about “the spread of Christianity among our youth,” citing the availability of Christian satellite television programs, books and objects.

“Everyone in society should feel responsibility in this matter and play his or her role in spreading of pure Islam and fight false and distorted cultures,” Mohabat quoted him as saying during a presentation on Mahdism – the belief in the so-called “hidden” or 12th imam, prophesied to emerge at a time of future chaos.

Last week, Mohabat reported that authorities had seized 6,500 pocket-sized Bibles in northwestern Iran. It quoted a parliamentary advisor, Majid Abhari, as telling the Mehr news agency that Christian missionaries were out to deceive Iranians, particularly the youth.

“They have begun a huge campaign by spending huge sums and false propaganda for deviating the public,” Abhari said. “The important point in this issue that should be considered by intelligence, judicial and religious agencies is that all religions are strengthening their power to confront Islam, otherwise what does this huge number of Bibles mean?”

Mohabat recalled previous incidents of Bibles being seized, including one last February, when Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and security officials in a routine inspection of a bus near the Iran-Turkey border found 600 New Testaments, which they destroyed along with confiscated alcohol in a public burning.

A similar incident in the same area last October also saw officials seize and burn Bibles, it said.

In a third incident, in June 2010, Bibles were found in a town near the border with Iraq. Mohabat said the official IRGC Web site at the time accused the U.S. in neighboring Iraq of conspiring to smuggle Bibles into Iran.

The Barnabas Fund, an organization working with Christian minorities in Islamic societies, reports that Iranian authorities have been waging an anti-Christian propaganda campaign through state media in recent weeks.

“Last month, offensive caricatures depicting Christ and Christians were published in the [IRGC mouthpiece] magazine Javan,” it said.

“False and insulting stories about Christians have also appeared in government media. One such article that was published on the website Youth Online alleged that women evangelists were going into stores, using shopping as a pretext to enter into conversation with staff, and then suggesting sexual liaisons and insulting Islam.”

This could happen here

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 08/27/2011 - 12:11am.

As long as we are allowing Muslims in this country to dictate things, such as the 9/11 anniversary which pretty much as become a victory celebration for Muslims on its 10th year, we'll be seeing something like this.

They are already trying to get rid of God out of school prayer and so many other things as it is.  And they've made no move to stop the spread of Islam.

They'll go after Christians, but you liberals need to know that you'll be enemies as well to them.  No one is safe.

This isn't hate speech or bigotry, these are facts.

Jon, it is happening here!

Submitted by ThisnThat on Sat, 08/27/2011 - 10:17am.

In plain view. Troubled by Christianity, and in full support of mosques at Ground Zero, Mayor Bloomberg has banned all Christian shows of faith at Ground Zero 9-11 ceremonies. Any religious leader caught praying at Ground Zero will be subject to a fine not exceeding $10,000 and a year in prison. Imams and CARE representatives will be stationed throughout the 9-11 ceremonies monitoring the situation. "Trouble-making by radical Christians will not be tolerated", said the mayor, "the feelings of our real citizens must be respected". The fact that CARE representatives will prevent many 9-11 victim families from attending is simply "the luck of the draw".

Hadn't heard that

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 08/27/2011 - 11:51am.

Gee, I wish I could be surprised by that.

Bloomberg is a traitor to the people, that's plain and simple.  I wish there could be a rebellion or something like that against him, but what are New Yorkers like these days, are they still depicted as tough not-going-to-take-crap-from-anyone or are they going to meekly allow this to happen?  I'm leaning to the latter.

Sorry to those of you who are New Yorkers, but the political situation that you have, you have sown it.  To those of you New Yorkers who are more conservative and sane(as in not liberal=mentally disturbed), you might as well get the hell out, you're not safe there anymore.

You for real? The man is an idiot. If this is true I would contribute to a fund for any Christian leader that prays.

Well then, I expect to see

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 08/27/2011 - 1:22am.

Well then, I expect to see thousands of Christians out on the street, rioting, burning Qurans, torching effigies of mooooooooooooslems, waving anti-islam signs, and probably having a few dozen people die because of this terrible insult to Christianity!!!! Plus, there were cartoons and drawings ridiculing Jesus Christ and Christians??? Son of a motherless goat!!! I expect that some mooooooooooooslem cartoonist will be found dead in the street, stabbed and beaten because of this transgression and blatent insult!!! Oh.........wait...............I think that some moooooooooooooslems broke the hands and beat up another moooooooooooooslem artist and cartoonist yesterday!!!! And he wasn't even insulting Christianity!!!

Actually, I DO like what 'da boyz' down in Australia did a few years ago to the 'muzzies' that were harrassing people at the beach for not abiding by mooooooooooooslem dress codes - they went into the muzzie section of town and did some serious ass-kicking, and basically told the followers of the 'religion of peace' that this was Australia, and this is how we do it down here, and if you dont like it, then get the hell out of here!!!

Eye for an Eye"

Submitted by LaVallette on Sat, 08/27/2011 - 2:01am.

Let us do the same to the Koran and we would have World War III.
However when the troglodytes do it, everyone rolls their eyes and in the spirit of "well what did you expect" we are expected to ignore it if not apologize for the intrusion into the Dar U Salam.

In the Islamic lexicon this is known as Dhimmitude.

Kabul, Afghanistan
"Protests in response to a US pastor burning the Koran spread across Afghanistan for a second day on Saturday, killing at least nine people and injuring more than 70 in the southern city of Kandahar. On Friday, a demonstration in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif turned violent when an angry mob stormed a United Nations compound killing seven members of the foreign staff and five Afghans."
