Tavis Smiley on Syria: Obama Should Take MLK's Bust Out of the Oval Office

PBS's Tavis Smiley had some harsh words Sunday for President Obama's planned attack on Syria.

During his Smiley and West radio program, Tavis said, "It’s one thing to honor Martin with our words in Washington one day, and then 48 hours later start making plans to dishonor him with our deeds in Syria...He ought to just take that bust out of the Oval Office if he’s going to dishonor Martin in this way" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

TAVIS SMILEY: It’s one thing to honor Martin with our words in Washington one day, and then 48 hours later start making plans to dishonor him with our deeds in Syria. Here you have a war president with a Peace Prize. Once again the parallel between King and Obama just doesn't measure up. He ought to just take that bust out of the Oval Office if he’s going to dishonor Martin in this way, particularly after standing where you stood on Wednesday.

And the President used the phrases – you recall, Doc, in his speech – he talked about the moral power of nonviolence. He talked about the moral force of nonviolence. Those are his words on Wednesday, and then you look up 48 hours later, and you’ve got these plans to go to Syria.

So I just want the country to be mindful of the fact that you can’t do justice to Martin’s legacy by talking about the moral force, that soul force of nonviolence one day, and then a couple of days later you want to do a 180.

If only the rest of Obama's media would recognize the hypocrisy and report it.

Bravo, Tavis! Bravo!
