Queen Latifah Makes Racist Remark on Late Show: 'Hammered or a White Girl, Whichever You Prefer'

By Noel Sheppard | July 11, 2012 | 11:13

Actress and singer Queen Latifah made a racially-insensitive remark on CBS's Late Show Tuesday that might raise a few eyebrows.

Talking about the pool at her house, she said there's a section for people to go "If you can’t swim, or if you’re hammer-wasted...Hammered or a white girl, whichever you prefer” (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Latifah and host David Letterman were discussing Fourth of July parties when she began talking about the great pool she has at her home.

“I literally took the pool from the Delano Hotel in Miami,” Latifah said. “It’s really like this small in the beginning. You can sit at a table and stuff.”

“My pool is like eight inches so babies can sit in there and stuff,” she continued. “And then it goes four feet. Got a basketball court in that section.”

“If you can’t swim, or if you’re hammer-wasted,” Latifah said, “go there.”

After laughing at this, Latifah added, “Hammered or a white girl, whichever you prefer.”

Latifah laughed again, gave too thumbs up to the crowd, and said, “Good times. Summer time.”

Was she suggesting that white girls are all "hammer-wasted," or that they're only allowed in that section of her pool?

Regardless, imagine for a moment a white entertainer saying he or she has a section in his or her pool if you’re “hammered or a black girl.”

I don’t imagine Letterman and his audience would have laughed, and the resulting outrage would have been huge.

Will this incident bring any negative attention on the woman starring in the new animated film "Ice Age: Continental Drift?"

Stay tuned.

That said, I zinged bal because I am sickened by the efforts of liberals in giving  the melanin-enhanced (or the nasterisks, h/t newsbubba) a smarmy ideological pass when they exhibit THEIR racist toro-merde.

But even though, IMO,  Disqus suqs overall compared to the way NBs was; it is a good venue for observing a far greater number of the crazies in one place.

It is the same thing...racist. Reverse the remarks by Latifeh to a white person speaking and it would be deemed racist. See, matthew's point is that only whites are racists, never blacks, according to the double standards of liberals.

You made no point, and I saw no "explanation" from you.

The majority of the posters on this site don't share your view --- so what, exactly is the 'point' you are trying to give birth to now?

Everyone who posts a comment or replies to one is part of the "give and take"; or are you suggesting that through some type of liberal mojo that you have made my posts invisible?

So I attack from an entrenched POV, eh?

Are you implying that as a lefty lib you maintain only the highest of righteous ideals and gentlest of methods in promoting them?

That is a laugher.

Or do you actually expect, when you post liberals bs phrased in simple-minded verbiage - whether declarative or interrogative - on a conservative site, to be praised rather than debated?  That is even funnier.  Who on these threads does NOT have an entrenched point of view?  Leave it to a liberal to claim he is being 'attacked' after invading the oppositions turf.

Do you have a persecution complex, bal; or are you just a pantywaist?

as the following  - "Or do you actually expect, when you post liberals bs phrased in simple-minded verbiage - whether declarative or interrogative - on a conservative site, to be praised rather than debated? " - was a question to you; not a declarative statement in furtherance of a back and forth, give and take type proposition wherein we engage in trading ideological jabs.

"Invading", reference liberals on a conservative site; h-mm, perhaps "infesting" would be more accurate.

Do you determine whether or not a 'serious' question is a "set-up" in the same way you divine what it was that Latifah meant with her words?

One's opinion is not exactly an infallible determinant factor in assessing what the intent or meaning behind another person's words actually is.

I think there is a lot of positive about Queen Latifah and they way she has handled her career so I don't see getting upset about this one misstatement. However, if would only take one statement like this from a conservative of any color to have the media making queries like, "How much will this hurt her? or "What impact will such disparaging remarks have upon her fans?".

“Hammered or a white girl, whichever you prefer.”

the white-lib double-standard is alive and well

Submitted by lotr on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 1:10pm.

<laughter> <applause>

Actually, it's not completely clear to me what "it seems she was saying" -- it's kind of ambiguous, especially with her follow-up comments "whichever your prefer..." and "good times"... which should indeed lead to "raised eyebrows" for the racially sensitive.

Even if balboa's interpretation is the right one (which I don't fully buy), the question remains: What kind of comment is that? That "all the white women are hammered"? Is she implying that "white women" are a bunch of drunks? What if it were the other way around? What if she referred to "Native Americans" instead this way?

So sad. I think the Queen is a talented, beautiful woman. Now she's gone and spoiled me dreams with all this white girl in the pool talk. And the dumb old white folks just pat her on the head and say that's ok, Queenie, you be black and therefore not responsible for your words or your actions. Man, if I was a black person, I'd be p-o'd at all this nonsense. It's like when Mom and Dad go away for a weekend and the kids are left to do whatever they damn well please. Naturally, they go on their worst behavior. Maybe if we had a mature adult leading the country, the kiddies might have a role model to look up to.
