Matthews on Roberts' ObamaCare Ruling: 'Must Be a Strange Feeling Down in Texas Right Now in the Bush Family'
Chris Matthews on Thursday made a very cynical observation about the Supreme Court upholding ObamaCare.
Appearing on MSNBC Live shortly after the ruling was announced, Matthews said, "There must be a strange feeling down in Texas right now in the Bush family that they created a Chief Justice" that ruled this way (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
As the segment began, Matthews was asked about how the GOP is responding to the ruling.
“The Republicans were counting on a 5-4 decision against this law,” Matthews answered. “They were hoping they could high five today the way the President's high-fiving by saying, ‘We’ve been saying all along that this President’s illegitimate, that he’s behaving unconstitutionally, that the Supreme Court has now ruled that we were right all along, that we’ve been proven right.’”
“Today they have a different result,” Matthews continued. “No one predicted a 5-4 decision for the President with the Chief Justice, appointed by George W. Bush, by the way, ruling in the majority.”
“There must be a strange feeling down in Texas right now in the Bush family that they created a Chief Justice,” said Matthews. “By the way, here was Bush coming in because of the Supreme Court led by Republicans. Here he is basically responsible now by having appointed John Roberts to the Court to be Chief Justice.”
Matthews continued, “This is a strange day, and is clearly a strange day in favor of the President. The President now knows he goes in the history books as having been the first Democratic president, in fact any president of either party going back to Teddy Roosevelt, to achieve healthcare. And he’s now got it in the books ratified as constitutional. That is a fact that's going to outlive this election, outlive all of these discussions.”
Think the man that gets up thrill up his leg whenever Obama speaks is happy today?

When you wake up after your zesty session with your inflatable Obamao love doll, you'll realize that Roberts upheld the commerce clause and outed Obamao as a lying weasel. Obamao just gave away his reelection.
50 years from now, they'll also give obama credit

This is not the first time the Bush's have screwed up on Supreme Court Justices, Sr screwed up also. These clowns need to stay in Texas-first Bush gave up Clinton and the second Bush gave us nobama. Great track record. They certainly don't represent me and I thought I was a Republican

All of Reagans appointments weren't exactly hardcore conservative either. For what ever reasons most justices seem to move left and those on the left only solidify.

The Supreme Court just sealed Obama's defeat at the polls in November 2012. Go Left Justice Roberts, just go the hell Left.
To more fully comprehend the Left, one must read “Leftism As Psychopathy” by John Ray, M.A., Ph.D. Caution, it might scare you a little bit.

How does this man continue to breath with so very little intelligence.
Does he talk merely to hear his own voice?
Can anyone remember the last time he said anything intelligent?
How about anything factual?
How about anything remotely associated with honesty?
Has he ever had any credibility?

Today's SCOTUS decision will boost Obama's popularity 5-7% in the coming days, and a poll of likely voters will show that a majority now favor Obamacare.
It doesn't mean that Obama will necessarily win reelection, but it has removed a major arrow from the GOP/Romney quiver. Obama will tout that he was right on Obamacare, and he's right on the stimulus if we just have the patience to see it through.
The deciding votes in both Kelo (Justice Kennedy) and Obamacare mandate (Chief Justice Roberts) are thanks to GOP-appointed justices.
Thanks, GOP.

i wouldn't get discouraged at all just yet. the general public despises Obamacare. i personally don't see this getting too much traction.

When the Supreme Court gave it the green light, I think at least some Americans went from ney to yea, even if the latter was merely an acceptance of the fait accompli.
The risk to the GOP is that continuing to promise to repeal it will run up against the Dems' promise to sustain the "Constitutional" law, and the Reps will waste to much pre-election time on it. If it gets the GOP off its jobs message, the Dems might even take back the House as well as re-elect Obama.
Cantor promises to put a repeal up for a vote in the House on July 9. If the Republicans don't already have a solid alternative to offer at that time, this repeal vote will not only be pointless, it could be suicidal.
sadly agree

Regrettably I agree with you Gal. Within 6 months ObamaCare's entittlement reality will join Soc Sec and Medicare and that Third Rail that is dragging us to an economic abyss will be larger and wider - making every politician cowards in daring to challenge it. It too will be a problem that gets the kick-the-can treatment by both parties and we who see its dire implications will be ignored by those raising cash for their reelections.

Yep, we sure can. Now, we can clearly say that he lied to the country.

It doesn't matter one iota what Obama said . . .
Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 06/28/2012 - 3:55pm.
The mandate has been determined to be Constitutional, and that's all the matters. The MSM will return to praising his wisdom and leadership, and it may move enough swing voters to make the difference in close-call states.
However, that's if the economy doesn't get worse. If we take another dip and unemployment rises dramatically, this SCOTUS decision probably won't matter much.
Well its Ironic

Betcha many more Conservatives actually watch and read Chrissy's drivel here and on other Conservative forums than sheeple and Libtards that sit down to watch him on M(arxist) S(ocialist) NBC on their television sets.
Guess if he didn't exist, we would have to invent him for the sake of our ongoing amusement.
I can still remember when he, Olby, and Maher were actually quite sane and lucid. Guess Liberalism really is a "progressive" disease after all.
