Warning: Hollywood's about to trash Christians again!
Submitted by Mary Louise Turner on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 9:19am.
I saw this on Yahoo! the other day and became greatly concerned.
Here's something that should frighten you: you have been warned. Director Paul Verhoeven ("Robocop") is about to make a revisionist (read: PC) movie about Jesus called "Jesus of Nazareth". He now has a writer and backing for this project, scheduled for 2013 or 2014. Get a load of the controversial (to say the least!) material in this proposed film: that Jesus might have been the product of his mother being raped by a Roman soldier, which Mr. Verhoeven said was commonplace at the time, that Jesus was a radical prophet who performed exorcisms and was convinced he would find the kingdom of Heaven on earth, and did not know he would be sentenced to die on the cross by Pontius Pilate. Vile, not to mention ignorant! If this stuff isn't offensive to Christians in general and Catholics in particular, what is? This idiot "researched" the subject for eleven years, supposedly. He's taking Martin Scorsese's awful "Last Temptation of Christ" (forget blasphemy - the film was just plain bad!) and kicking it up a notch. (By the way, "LTOC" is now available on DVD!)
If Mr. Verhoeven planned a movie trashing Muhammad, you know what would happen; he would get death threats.

That has been out there for many years by those that can't accept the virgin birth. It all boils down to sceince instead of a simple faith in believing the virgin birth. God made a jackass to speak so he can do anything including impreganting a virgin. I'm like mother, they'll probably release it during Holy Week.
"a movie trashing Muhammad" isn't necessary, ML.

His "followers" do that every day with their words and deeds.
I'm just glad that the Catholic Church has had the fortitude and faith to fight against Islam throughout history each time they have decided that the time was ripe for them to conquer the world.
I'm beginning to think that The Church may have to do it again this time since governments are abdicating.
On this day
Submitted by Tugboat Phil on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 9:24am.
23 June, I first raised my hand to swear allegiance to the Constitution of the United States. It was a mere 37 years ago and I was not quite 18. I flew from Beckley, W.Va. to National Airport in D.C., via Lewisburg, W.Va. and Roanoke, Va. Prior to that day I didn't even know there was an airport in Beckley. The aircraft was a DC-3 flown by Piedmont Airlines. Piedmont later became my favorite carrier. Sorry to see them go.
From D.C. I took a much smaller plane to Philly. I had to wait for enough others to arrive to fill the "limousine" that would take us to Ft Dix, NJ. The limo was a Checker Cab station wagon that had been stretched to have 4 doors on each side. It was a monster! We got to Ft Dix around 2300 and the Drill Sgts were very happy to see us. I don't think they stopped screaming until 0430 when lights went out. We got an entire 30 minutes of sleep before reveille.
The first thing we'd done the previous night was to pass in front of an "Amnesty Box." Any contraband could be dumped into it with no repercussions. It was a private deal so no one saw what you might put in. I was surprised at the amount of weapons and drugs that were in there. I don't know how often they emptied it.
Today was the beginning of a trip that involved getting out twice and coming back in twice, to the Navy each time thereafter. I learned that the Navy takes the kitchen, bathroom and your bed everywhere they go. There is one drawback in that your "house" does run the risk of sinking. But for a kid that didn't want to go to college and wasn't sure what to do, it turned out pretty good.
I never spent a minute in a combat zone during my time. I was in a shipyard during Grenada and on shore duty for Panama and Desert Storm. I had about one minute in Haiti, while in charge of a landing craft with a 10 man crew, where I could have started an international incident. It was the initial contact to put Arristide back into power in 1993. I was given radio permission to fire on a patrol boat approaching at high speed. We realized, at the same time as the CO of USS Harlan County, that their machine gun wasn't loaded.
I can't believe that was 37 years ago. Where'd the time go?
Happy Anniversary Phil

That was my "home" for 2 years. I was a truck driver and mechanic in an 8" self-propelled howitzer battalion. We had the M110A1. I got to fire it a few times when a gun crew was shorthanded. Nothing quite like it.
During my time in (75-78) the PT uniform consisted of removing and folding our shirts, then placing them on the ground. Then we'd uncover and place it on the shirt. We still wore the starched OD green fatigues. Many a Monday morning, the starch in my pants was the only thing holding me upright at morning formation.
America is very fortunate that we weren't attacked during those years. It wasn't quite as bad a Stripes, but not far from it. There was an Army wide survey of combat readiness taken just prior to my getting out. Of all the active divisions, the only two that were rated "ready to go," were the 82nd and the 101st.
I just want to say that I was skeptical after 9/11 of how our forces would fare against the bad guys. After years of PC and Oprahfizing our young men, did we still have to fighting spirit that our warriors of the past held? I must say that I am impressed with our warriors. They are much better trained and equipped, and when given a mission with minimal ROE, they are unmatched on this planet.
Thank you to all who have served this nation in uniform and those of you who have had to keep the home fires burning during their absence. I am proud to call you fellow Americans!
I don't usually even notice when this day passes by each year. I just happened to see it on the calendar about midnight, last night. I didn't realize how much of that first day I remembered until I thought about it.

where I was with the 11th Marines, we used to run Heartbreak Ridge and Sheepsh!t. The top of Heartbreak was exactly 1.5 miles from our barracks, so the daily three-mile run was a real bitch. Not overly steep in grade, maybe 10% or so, but a long steady climb to the top. They run a half marathon there now and a found a picture of the actual trail. This gives you some perspective. I remember it seemed like death trying to get to the top, but then the run down in formation was just as bad as you were tired and trying not to trip over the guy in front of you.
Sheepsh!t was a tank trail up and down along a ridgeline that, true to it's name, was grazed by sheep.

After a long day on the range
Submitted by ricklail on Sun, 06/24/2012 - 9:29am.
After a long day on the range or the other training areas you had to walk up Drag Ass Hill to get back to the Tank and the barracks. I've went up longer and steeper hills before that but not after baking in 90 degree heat on the range all day. Even if it got hot and we had to stop training we still had to walk back.
There are hills out on McAuthur Road that runs by the drop zones at Bragg. We never had to walk them. When the airborne jumped thye had buses or duece and a halfs to take them back. The difference between mech infantry and airborne was we rode to our objective, they jumped and walked. Much safer riding.

Two of my uncles retired from the AF. They told me not to join the Army because I'd be sleeping with my rifle. I assured them that as a truck driver, that would never happen. The first night I was in a foxhole with my rifle against my chest I thought about them.
I lived next to Langley AFB during my last years in the Navy. I had made Chief and wore khakis. AF folks know nothing at all about Navy rank structure (it took me about a year in before I did). I'd go to the BX or commissary in uniform and I'd have every other person saluting me. And since the Navy is factually superior to the AF, I allowed them that pleasure.
Thanks for your service!

Indeed, the AF does know nothing about Navy rank structure! I worked with the Navy when deployed and was introduced to some enlisted gal who introduced herself as "MA1" something or other...
That left my head spinning for days...
Not to mention the Navy's penchant for re-inventing the English language (for instance, the part of my pad upon which I stand and move around on is not called a "floor"; rather, it is a "deck". Huh? )

i thought a Navy captain was the same rank as an Army captain. My CO asked me one day to go to Gray Army Airfield and pick up a Navy captian. I told him I go get my jeep and go after him. I was told he was a Navy captain to get the staff car. A Navy captain is the same as a light bird colonel in the Army I found out. Still to this dayI can't reconize their rank. We have Navy chaplain in our church that is a Lt. Commander. That is the only rank I reconize.
AF, Coast Guard and Navy rank forget it. I live around Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune so I know Marine rank. That is all I need to know. .My wife's cousin just made E-9 in the AF. In the Army it is a SGT Major, has a star in the middle, or a Command SGT Major has a star and wreath. SGT Major of the Army has 2 stars but he is still and E-9. I have no clue what they it in AF rank..

Doubting Romney
Submitted by Agnostic on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 10:38am.
Many people have voiced that they would rather cast a 'protest vote' for a third party candidate than vote for Romney. This is their right and there is understandable reasons for not trusting Romney - especially if he is faced with a Democrat controlled House or Senate.
However, I would like to point to an issue and that is the selection of Bolton as a foreign policy advisor. If you think about this selection it shows a very strong directional decision being made by Romney. I was surprised when Bush selected the often outspoken and politically incorrect Bolton and he was already in office. For Romney to do so while still campaigning actually caused (forgive the 80s term here) a paradigm shift for me in viewing Romney.
Now Bolton is making comparisons between the foreign policy attitudes between Reagan and Romney. Arguments can be made whether this is a good or bad comparison but it is unlikely Bolton would make such a statement, given his past speaking engagements and articles, without couching it in plausible scenarios unless he believed it to be true.
This is not the decision of a politician eager to appease. Bolton has been a target for years. The only reason this target doesn't get put on display is that his knowledge (right or wrong) isn't just the understanding that comes from committee briefs but an in depth understanding of dealing with issues and frankness to blow off ‘catty’ comments - in other words, 'more than media egos want to deal with outside of heavily edited video.

We have a friend coming down today who is an excellent guitar player - for those of you who know anything about musical equipment, he is one of the original guys who developed the Mesa Boogie amplifier. He's got a guest house over here that he stays in when he and his family can get away for a vacation.................................so we'll be lookin' for some new tunes to lay down.
Sounds Fun!

Really, strat?? I've never seen anything...........although I probably don't want to see myself either!!! That harmonica player gets scolded by his wife for jamming with us, because he's supposed to be getting his 'therapy' in the water...........but I think he gets a lot of it right there with the musicians!!!
Like I said before, I usually downgrade my list of life's complaints after a day at KORE, if you catch my drift.
Yeah, You're A Rock Star Now! ;-)

Strat, I was born in Akron!!!
Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 2:42pm.
Strat, I was born in Akron!!! My mother was from there - her dad worked at one of the tire plants, and my father was a poverty-ridden refugee from West Virginia, who graduated from Akron U. (the Zippers???) But I can't tell you anything more about it, because I was only there for a year or two. My uncle Gene Woodling used to play for the Cleveland Indians, as well as the New York Yankees during their heyday of the 50's, and he also did a stint with the SF Giants.
OK, gotta go 'spank the plank'!!!
Well, Whaddya Know!

Akron is a hop, skip and a jump away from me. Akron was a real powerhouse of manufacturing back in the day. Now it has some great medical facilities and terrific research. The University of Akron is a darn good school. (yep - the Zip's!) I had a rotation at Akron Children's Hospital which overlooked the ball park and was near the University campus.
I remember the name Gene Woodling. His time with the Indians was before I threw a baseball, but my father probably saw him play many times with the Tribe and the Yankees. From his obit in the New York Times:
I can see your uncle in you. He's smiling upon you from above. :-)

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 10:03pm.
I remember Uncle Gene beng about as straightforward as anyone you could ever meet, and I think he had a lifetime batting average (over many years in the bigs) of around .300, with a World Series average of about .318 - and he played in at least 4 or 5 World Series, I think, so he wasn't boasting about being able to hit any pitcher. I saw him play in the old Baltimore Memorial Stadium, as well as whatever park the Senators used to play at in Washington, DC, in the late 50's, before we moved to Hawaii.
You know, those parks were located in the 'dark' side of town, and you could park there - at somebody's house, slip them a couple of bucks, and when we came back, the care was safe and un-bothered, and my Dad would probably slip the guy another bill - and it was all cool. We had to walk to the park from where we were parked, and that wasn't dangerous or anything like that - it was normal for the era. Try that these days, huh???
Just came back from KORE - played for 4 straight hours!!! There were little waves on the sandbar, so I think the participants had a good day too, and it wasn't blazing hot, which was nice. We had another musician today, and he was quite good, and loved playing!! For some reason, we got onto a Wilson Pickett jag, and managed a pretty 'Killa' version of '99 1/2 Just Won't Do', which was a lot of fun. But we started goofing off on the 'Land of 1000 Dances' riff, and ended up getting it going pretty good, and when we were doing the 'na na-na na-na; part, a couple of the autistic kids, and some other participants, jumped in there to help us sing - which was quite cool!!! It doesn't take much to get to them - in fact, the simpler the better!!! I think they understood the words!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!
We also did some pretty stuff, and pulled a few out of thin air, which is always interesting - especially if they come out well.
I'm beat, but it's too early for a black cherry/vodka over here in Asia/Hawaii!!!

So go ahead and enjoy your treat.
The obit I linked from the NYTimes is pretty good for some stats. Your uncle was one helluva ball player. Would have liked to have seen him.
Daggone. 99 and a Half Won't Do. Woah! Never heard anyone play that out. Pickett. About as cool as cool gets.
Check out You Tube for the KORE videos. Some nice licks and a little foot stomping.
If I ever get wanderlust I'm heading to Hawaii and check you guys out. :-)

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 06/24/2012 - 1:01am.
Well, Creedence Clearwater Revival did a pretty authentic cover of it - John Fogarty can sing and play!!! But that is a Wilson 'Wicked' Pickett/Steve Cropper song, and Pickett did it first. It was a lot of fun to play - first time we'd ever tried it, and it came out well enough for somebody to ask us to play it again a little while later!!!
Hell, strat - we even tried 'What Becomes of the Broken Hearted' (Jimmy Ruffin) today, with decent results!!! And a rousing version of 'Long Tall Sally', where our guitar player friend set a new standard for KORE solos!!! Hahahahaha!!! I'm glad I'm just the singer/rhythm guitarist!!!

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 1:39pm.
'Common sense', just like many other of our basic truths and principles of life, has been under attack by liberalism and progressivism for years - to a point where some court has to decide it for us, and that's not a good scenario, as has been demonstrated many times!!! 'Common sense' is for the 'common man'...............it's not 'nuanced', or 'brilliant', or 'subtle' enough for the high-brow libs, and it can't be 're-calibrated' or 'evolved' into whatever they want it to become.

Last year our GA passed a voter ID law only to have Dumpling veto it. I think they are on the verge of overridding that veto. As soon as they do here comes WithHolder and his goons. Did you read last week that WithHolder has sent 10 FBI agents to Sanford Fl to interview people about thought crimes that Zimmerman may have committed. This POS SOB needs to go and go now. Can't wait until January if there is a new president.

The UN's plan for EU.
Submitted by Newsbubba on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 5:18pm.
Since pitting different interests and ethnic groups against each other has worked out so well in "multicultural" Amerika, the UN is now going to try to turn all of the EU countries into boiling pots of "diversity" so that they will destroy themselves, and the Workers of the World Communist Party can just walk in and pick up the pieces.

"How many of you called home to ask your dad to send you a copy of the US Constitution since swearing allegiance to that document gave you goose bumps?"
"How many of you that served and were deployed to a UN run operation order a copy of the UN charter to see what the "coalition force" you were a part of was defending?"

Copied from her website, "Knives are also routinely confiscated at Joe Biden’s dinner speeches, but that’s to eliminate any chance of audience members taking their own lives". This was in the article about the Secret Service confiscating knives and forks prior to Baracka's speech to a Latino organization. Hmm, confiscating knives, sounds like profiling to me.
