Air marshalls
Submitted by creekrat on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 9:32am.
My nephew, pilot for a major US airline paid his own way to become an air marshall following his layoff after 9-11.
Very quietly his ability to carry a weapon in the cockpit has been removed. He indicated that added regulations made it ridiculous to try and do so. All attempts to get some attention by he and other pilots were ignored.
That folks, is the way they are doing it, just regulate the heck out of it. Typical leftist nonsense, don't like guns, so make everyone get rid of them!

Washington Post Friday News Dump

Big News: CHA Tells HHS NoGo on Accommodation
This is, as the Deac says, “big news.” Compromise "unworkable"
If it seems written in benign fashion by the WaPo, and dropped late on a Friday in summer, Rocco Palmo explains why:
Coming in a five-page letter sent today by the Catholic Health Association to a top HHS administrator, the move (including draft proposals for an acceptable revision of the controversial Federal rule) follows months of tension between the US hierarchy and the association representing some 2,000 Stateside church health facilities, whose president, Daughter of Charity Sister Carol Keehan, stoked the ire of much of the hierarchy after voicing her approval of the White House’s February “accommodation” on the plan, which the bishops deemed as being insufficient.
Today’s letter was signed by Keehan, CHA’s current board chair [Joseph R. Swedish], and his designated successor.
Recall that Sister Keehan’s initial approval of the “accommodation”, like Dionne’s, was released via the White House religion press portal almost simultaneously with the WH announcement; it gave enormous political cover to the president, and helped him to divide a church that had — quickly and uncharacteristically — united against the HHS Mandate. Now, she’s walking it back.
A couple questions
Submitted by DontFeedTheTrolls on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 10:23am.
I'm wondering, is this attack primarily against the Catholic Church?
Is it because they have such a big footprint in the health care world?
Are, say, the Amish or Muslims (for example) supposed to provide birth control and abortions to employees too?
The law applies to all
Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 10:40am.
The law applies to all employers and religions, as far as I know.
Yes, it's a big deal for Catholics because of their footprint:
“The Catholic Church…operates 12.6 percent of hospitals in the U.S., according to the Catholic Health Association of the U.S., accounting for 15.6 percent of all admissions and 14.5 percent of all hospital expenses, a total for Catholic hospitals in 2010 of $98.6 billion,” he wrote. “Almost a third (32 percent) of these hospitals are located in rural areas, where patients usually have few other options for care.” All in all, “more than one in six seniors and disabled patients get attention from these hospitals.”
Correction: The Amish are exempt from the entire AHCA
Another example of imbalance, probably because they don't provide large-scale health services.
As a small example, in our
Submitted by celator on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 10:46am.
As a small example, in our town we have two hospitals, one Catholic and one not. Both are good hospitals and very busy. If our Catholic hospital were to close (and it would if the Obama mandate holds), it would bring chaos to health services in this and surrounding small communities.
Both hospitals have smaller satellite services as far as 50 miles away, where many elderly are served (the nature of the population of small towns). The non-Catholic hospital would be overwhelmed--longer waiting times, etc. Patients would suffer, no question about it.

The religous exemptions for AHCA will be the same as IRS exemptions. From my memory that includes the Amish and some Native American groups. The HHS currently has a committee to review said exemptions to coincide with IRS. So far, they have ruled that Muslims will be exempted but it has not yet come with final decisions. I posted that report a few weeks ago and cant remember where I found it. Will try to check to see if I bookmarked it. Catholics and other Christian religeous groups have been found not to be eligible for exemptions by that committee. *searching*
Edit: The Quakers and the Amish have already been found to be exempt. Under consideration by the HHS committee for exemptions are Muslims and Native Americans. A decision will be made by end of Jan 2014. Still cant find the original article. Still looking cause google aint helping me...duh

The Catholic Bishops Will Not Abandon Freedom of Religion for Tax Exemptions (published April 13 th!)
Maryland’s early history teaches us that, like any freedom, religious liberty requires constant vigilance and protection, or it will disappear. Maryland’s experiment in religious toleration ended within a few decades. The colony was placed under royal control, and the Church of England became the established religion. Discriminatory laws, including the loss of political rights, were enacted against those who refused to conform. Catholic chapels were closed, and Catholics were restricted to practicing their faith in their homes. The Catholic community lived under these conditions until the American Revolution.

The regime MUST control the Catholic Church.
Submitted by Newsbubba on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 12:18pm.
The church has a history of taking just so much from a repressive government, and then saying "NO MORE."
They begin to push back, and have historically been willing to go, literally, to war with a regime that is trying to supress them.
Liberals can't afford to have a strong Catholic Church that will stand in the way of their takeover of the USSA.
Other churches have a tendency to just roll over and die when they get pressure from government. With a little help from God, the Catholic Church will not, ... again.
Funny, but if you read history, the church has been standing between the Muslims and the rest of the world for centuries.

I think I saw that on a Brady Bunch episode (Cindy?), and I swear that's what came to mind. Then Ginsburg was taunting "nobody knows but those who know." Well, duh. How dumb is that?
And even though those articles say "without giving anything away...", I still feel like she did indeed give some info away. Now whether we can come to any correct conclusions from it is impossible to say, hence the gameplaying I mentioned.

A couple of "must-reads"
Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 11:02am.
from American Thinker.
Obama: Going Rogue
Obama's re-election scheme includes dividing Americans into mini-voting blocs, all perceiving themselves to be victimized. He promises college kids lower tuition interest rates. To secure the gay and Hollywood vote, Obama came out in support of gay marriage. To secure the hardcore feminist vote, Obama ignored the Constitution, forcing religious institutions and taxpayers to fund contraception and abortion services against their faith.
This was apparently written BEFORE Obama's "Dream Executive Order"
Obama Lurching Toward Tyranny
By executive orders, Mr. Obama both violates the law against his own American-citizen "enemies," such as Catholic institutions when it comes to abortion and birth control, and grants unlawful privileges for his supporters or potential supporters, such as his immigration amnesty order this week.
But for the guy who said he was OK with being a one-term president, it now seems that no pander is off the table when it comes to his reelection.
Here's what I don't
Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 11:12am.
Here's what I don't understand. Where is the outcry from the blacks over the jobs these illegals will be taking? I don't expect them to bring up the unconstitutionality of it. Unemployment among black men is the highest rated group in the country.
Yeah, they're really stuck
Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 11:21am.
Yeah, they're really stuck between Barack and a hard place on this, aren't they?
There's already friction between the two communities over "preferred minority" status, and now Obama drops this dilemma on them.
A lot of black heads will be exploding trying to work this one out!
And I'm not sharing any of my duct tape!!
I'm just getting my popcorn ready.
No problemo!
Submitted by Newsbubba on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 12:33pm.
Those unemployed people could already be working all the jobs that illegals will do, but unemployment and welfare and AFDC, etc, etc pay MUCH better, and you get to sit on your ass all day and actually have more kids so you can collect even more tax money!!
I predict that once the illegals become "legal" they will figure out quickly that joining the welfare community pays a hell of a lot better than actually WORK!!! (my best Maynard G. Crebs impersonation, please)
Then there will be plenty of time for them to join in the "voter drives" and get their asses hauled around from poll to poll on election day with the brothas, and vote early and often for Democrats!
Meanwhile, Republican "leadership" in Congress sit around with their thumbs up their ashtray, and can't seem to find the cojones to actually fight the RBFSOB on ANY of this.
And people say Obama's dumb? He ain't that smart, for sure. He just has no opponents.
Maybe the Catholic Bishops will kick his ass for us.

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 06/16/2012 - 12:20pm.
How appropriate that I re-found this today.....
I was doing "housekeeping" of my bookmarks, and came across this, which I watched again.
Sowell said that (and I'm paraphrasing here; there's no transcript) as bad as the Clintons were, they had the "saving grace of utter lack of principle." IOW, when they saw which way the political winds were blowing, that's where they would go, even if they'd said otherwise.
Obama, on the other hand, is hard-left ideologue, who would not be swayed by public opinion, but would do what he must to fulfill his vision.
Sowell said he thought Obama "really believes he can change the world" and that men like that are infinitely more dangerous.

So true. And as for the Clintons, who would think lack of principles could work in our favor? LOL. But yes, the Clintons will test the winds and adapt. They want to succeed. They are practical when they feel they must be.
Now as for O...I think his upbringing was filled with such a radical mishmash that he is just really screwed up -- but unable to unscrew himself from all those bad, weird, harmful influences. I think he has just copied himself after various rad ideologues. And look at the scary that brings us now. I feel sorry for him as a person, but I don't as a President because now he's tryin to make the U.S. his very upbringing.

Darn it anyway. Latest Rassmussen poll for Michigan has O at 50% and Romney at 42%. Romney needs to get up there. Out of all the states hit hard by the economy, you'd think Michiganders would be toward the top of the list in wanting a change because they see firsthand O's policies don't work. However, I'm afraid the GM bailout-beneficiaries and unions are going to fight hard to keep the status quo, which is just sinking sand for everyone else up there.

Usually, they poll over on the east side of the state. Detroit, Wayne County, Washtenaw County. They skip Oakland and Macomb, usually. And heaven forbid, don't poll the west side of the state, or anywhere north of I-96, except along the rust belt that travels north up I-75.
Edit: And I'm not buying that much of a swing in the polls, in a week.

Good point. I usually figure Rass to be better than a lot of pollsters, but it is dependent on things we just don't know that occurred. I think it was the big gap that really discouraged me...but yeah, poll anywhere on the east side only, and you may as well toss the results out the window. West -- and especially southwest -- that's an entirely different matter. Hope those folks come out to the polls bigtime.

I highly recommend it to you, and your kids. They need to know this stuff.
... and Da One says we were nothing special? Keep electing him, and we won't be.
"Public education in America in 1941 was the best in the world, and dedicated teachers led by rote, by repetition, and by discipline mixed with a healthy dose of tenderness and the knowledge that the hand that rocked the cradle truly ruled the world. A high school diploma was a hard-earned document and those young Americans who received a diploma had language skills, writing skills, citizenship skills, geology, biology, physics, Latin, Greek, and an expansive list of books read. According to 1940 census only 24.5 percent of Americans received a high-school diploma in 1941, and less than 5 percent completed four years of college. All in all, well-educated, even erudite and mannerly, young men and women came out of high school, ready to go out into the real world and contribute to society.
"America in 1941 was a do-it-yourself enterprise, despite the welfare state created by the New Deal. People still looked to themselves to solve their own problems. "

You know, it's kind of hard to know when Joe is "on script" and when he's off...but one thing is for sure -- the O Administration is just all over the place trying to figure out what votes to go after. He has been catering to the gays which represent about 2% of the population. Then he is really pushing the anti capitalist agnostic group which represents about 15%, the Latinos which is about 14%. Then he angers the 12% blacks by supporting gay marriage and amnesty for illegals. Then he angers the 20%, the rich, that pay most of the taxes, then he angers the 53% middle class that pay taxes by ending the bush tax cuts.
If you intend to divide the country into groups and then make them believe you are looking out for them, it seems that the best course of action is not to anger the majority if you want to get elected. But then again, what does he know that the majority of Americans do not?

I'm gonna get creamed for this post, I'm sure- but I just want to say that I've come back from almost 5 straight hours of surfing in beautiful, clean, sparkling, over-head waves - on June 16!!!! We rarely get any surf out here on the north side of my little outer island in Asia/Hawaii, so it is a real treat, as well as a surprise!! And, even though it's a beautiful Saturday, there was basically no crowd whatsoever, so I could catch any wave that I wanted to.
Needless to say, my arms feel like they have lead weights attached to them, and I was hypoglycemic when i got home from not having eaten anything since last night!!! But the reports say it will be even BIGGER tomorrow, so I'll have to wake up, watch some EURO soccer qualifying matches, and then go do another 4-5 hours of surfing!!
And, speaking of the EURO - to quote Monty Python - 'the Greeks shall inherit the earth'!!! Yes, the lowly Greeks beat high touted Russia today, eliminating them, and sending the Greeks into the next round!!! And so there's a lot of talk about how this is good, since things are so bad in Greece - and I'm sure that's true. I actually lived in Greece for 2 years - when I was 7-8 - so I guess that is why I might have a little interest in it.

However.... Surf along Maui’s east coast is expected to range between 6 and 8 feet through Monday night. Just maybe the wind will die off... No trade winds on Maui, that's a laugh... Finally got some rain here, (was way too dusty for this time of year). Still 72 ゚F, up here on the side of Haleakala, away from the trades...

This is not exactly word for word:
"Presdient and Mrs, Obama are at their Hyde Park home for the first time in 2 years. The president is resting from campainging." It was mentioned that they had attended the wedding of Valerie Jarrett's daughter. They damn sure got that straight. He is not worn out from being president and meetings with Congressional leaders over the economy and jobs.

Rep Trey Gowdy was on Huckabee last night. He was sick and tired of Holder's games and didn't feel like he deserved a break. The contempt vote needed to go on as scheduled for Wednesday. This has been going on for 18 months. Holder's time is up.

I feel for this Marine's family, and all the families. They're over there to die for a tie. Baracka has no intention of doing anything in Afghanistan, other than play out the string and claim he won. Much like he took credit for the Bush Plan to exit Iraq.

The Big 100 coming up any day now (if he's not out on the course right now!).
I read somewhere yesterday that he has wasted the equivalent of 3 months playing golf, but this Washington Times story says it's actually 4!
Add in the time he's spent doing fundraisers, and he's probably wasted another 4.

On Thursday I discovered that Direct TV was showing a mix of players. One channel featured Phil, Bubba and Tiger both Thursday and Friday. They followed them the entire round. They only cut to commerical when they were walking. Yesterday they followed Tiger and Jim. Today they'll follow Jin And Graeme but they don't tee off unitl 6:10; I went to sleep watching last night. Didn't wake up unitl 12:30 so I didn't know what happened. I'll try by best to stay awake tonight until the end.

Lots of pushing the envelope horse action...gun play, dust clouds, even tobacco smoking, burning stuff without a permit,, fun drinking scenes.

Funny thing about beer, makes my neck too weak to hold my head up. Slept during the 2 hour ride home. 'Probly should have had the margarita instead. Sure tasted good in the heat tho and I slept great.

I feel bad for Furyk, but you have to make the shots to win a major, and he blew it on the 16th tee.
And I gotta hand it to Graeme McDowell, who staged probably the best back nine comeback I have ever seen.
Thank God there are only four majors a year, else I would probably be dead by now.

So Michelle slams corporate jobs, big paychecks and perks? That coming from an elitist snob who had a make-work position dumping patients at the University of Chicago health system solely because her hubby was a Senator? That coming from a woman whose greed, avarice and envy have her soaking up every available budget dollar on designer clothes, expensive vacations at taxpayer expense, her mother living in the White House for free AND all of the psychotic delusions and pretensions of being an "inspiration" to young people? Grab the Zofran, you might just vomit at the picture.
