Andrea Mitchell to Obama Interior Secretary: 'I Appreciate' You 'Correctly Fact-Checking' GOP Claims
"I appreciate that you are correctly fact-checking the Republican claims."
MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell actually said this to Obama Interior Secretary Ken Salazar Wednesday in a discussion about oil and gas prices (video follows with transcript and commentary):
KEN SALAZAR, SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR: People who are running for office mislead the American people by saying that there’s a three-point plan or a bumper sticker kind of way of bringing down gasoline prices. The fact of the matter is that nobody can do that. The price of oil is set on the global economy. People who have looked at this closely and hard know that’s the case.
And so what the President is doing is being truthful to the American people. The political opponents are not. But the President's point of view is that we need to keep on the sustained program that we have been pursuing with an all of the above energy strategy to make sure that we get to energy independence and energy security for the United States. And that way the American people won't have to go through the kind of pain that they're experiencing right now or that they've experienced a number of times in the last 20, 30 years.
ANDREA MITCHELL, HOST: I appreciate that you are correctly fact-checking the Republican claims.
That really deserves repeating a third time: I appreciate that you are correctly fact-checking the Republican claims.
Now, in fairness to Mitchell, this comment came in the middle of a segment where she did question her guest about Politifact finding fault with comments President Obama has made about the number of oil rigs currently in operation.
At the end of the interview, Mitchell also noted that Presidents Clinton and Bush deserve some of the credit for how much oil is currently being drilled on American soil.
But "I appreciate that you are correctly fact-checking the Republican claims?"
C'monnnnn.

Thank you!! I told Cajun I was always disappointed not to have been born a Southern girl! There's no mystique about mid-Atlantic girls. I mean, who would ever forget Scarlett O'Hara or cease to wonder how Scout turned out?
Ok, back to the thread.

Ms Rad, being a southern girl is more than birth and geography. It's a mindset and attitude and thats why you are a friend.

Talk about being born in the heart of cajunland. You should be proud. My mom was from Pecannaire, my dad from Palmetto and my husband from Chaitaignier. I was born right on the Atchafalaya.

You're in if you can spell Tchoupitoulas, atchafalaya, and Thibodaux.

I can't spell!! I was the victim of a public school experiment called ITA which was a bizarre method of phonetics using a made up alphabet. So I need a new test.
Now excuse me while I file a lawsuit to become a protected class.

As you probably know, "Cajun" is a spoken dialect not a written one ... despite attempts to make it one.
As someone born on the bayou myself, I learned this at an early age hearing scary night-time stories of the "Rougarou" from my relatives.
When I once asked my dad how to spell it, he informed me you don't write in "Cajun" you just speak it. And it depends on whether you are from "up the bayou" or "down the bayou" anyway.
Incidentally, I later learned that Tthe Rougarou was almost certainly a corrupted form of the French "Loup Garou".

"Loup Garou" had meaning generations ago for those living "on the bayou". Today, loup garou has an entirely new but evolved meaning. I hear tell loup garou still exists in the basin and that James Carville may be a reincarnation.

I have a question for Salazar. Why is it that when the rumor of Obama's pending release of some of SPR, the prices on the market started to drop? When the administration said that was horse hockey, the prices shot back up and they say that the Republicans are lying. Seems to me that Salazar and Mrs Alan Greenspan are the ones that are feeding the American a line of crap.

"I appreciate that you are correctly fact-checking the Republican Claims". Totally laughable on the part of Lizard Lady when Politifact was actually fact-checking Obama's statements TO A DEMOCRAT about HOW MANY oil rigs are drilling.
And what is this "I appreciate that you are correctly fact-checking" from Lizard Lady? Are the People at M.S.S.R. (M-BS-NBC) TELLING government officials who to use when fact-checking and give them the instructions in how to do so?
