Joan Walsh: Limbaugh 'Like Crack' to GOP - 'They Need More and More of it to Get Them High'

Not surprisingly, MSNBC has spent much of the day trashing conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh's apology to Georgetown University law student and women's rights activist Sandra Fluke.

Doing her part was Salon editor-at-large Joan Walsh who appearing on The Ed Show said, "Rush has been like crack for the Republican Party, and they need more and more of it to get them high. And he needs, he personally needs more and more outrage and more and more abuse and misogyny to get himself excited" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

ED SCHULTZ, HOST: Are Republicans afraid of Rush Limbaugh? What do you think, Joan?

JOAN WALSH, SALON: Oh, I think they’re absolutely afraid of him, Ed. You know, I think Rush has been like crack for the Republican Party, and they need more and more of it to get them high. And he needs, he personally needs more and more outrage and more and more abuse and misogyny to get himself excited. And they just keep tolerating it.

You know, when President Obama became president and he wished he would fail and he said he didn’t want to have to bend over backwards and forwards and got into all kinds of sexual weirdness about the president, you know, people wouldn’t say anything about it then. And every time he says something horrible, Republicans are asked to separate themselves, and they refuse. They need him to rile up their angry base, and they’ve been living with it, and he’s really, seriously hurting them now.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Makes you wonder who Walsh is to throw civility stones at anyone.

In just the past six days she trashed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's faith, called the GOP "the party of old, white men," and published an article with the disgraceful title "What's the Matter With White People?"

Frankly, this woman lives in one of the biggest glass houses in the country.

Obama is crack for Democrats.

I know you are but what am I.

And of course, anyone who said that on TV would be considered by the Left to be racist.

Does anyone else think we're going to have to fight these people one day soon? I mean seriously, how much worse was it before the Civil War? We're essentially two separate countries now. One is full of God fearing capitalists and the other is comprised of government worshiping communists.

I really believe this thing is going to come to a head if there is a big enough crisis. Let's face it, they despise us and the feeling is mutual.

I agree

Submitted by GregE on Mon, 03/05/2012 - 11:34pm.

Who knows what such a conflict would look like. Neighbors literally next door to opposite-thinking neighbors.

These people are not the majority. They seem like they're bigger than they are because they're so loud and demanding, and want to undermine our Foundation.

Without Devine intervention (which if that were to happen, anything could change for the better quicky), nothing is going to change for the better. The crap is getting worse. The culture, the economics, the mindset, the apathy, the stupidity, etc etc. Politicians feed on it, and when the wrong poltician comes along, that person (who may exist currently in politics) could use his or her power to bring things to a place we never thought America could go, and it won't be pretty. He could be our current President, who knows. If he wins 4 more final years, with the mindset of ripping out the Foundation completely and only having 4 years to do it, he could say damn the torpedoes and force us to a place from which we'll never recover. I believe we are ripe for a "one false move and ......" situation.

People talk about things having to change. It's not happening. People want politicians to work together? Not happening. Debt grows, everyone says they want it to be reduced, but there is no agreement on reduction methods, so nothing happens and debt grows, and the more unstable that situtation gets, the more the Left seems to like it. Those who want chaos and competely overhaul of our foundation want NOTHING to do with reducing debt. The bigger the debt, the bigger the crisis, and the bigger the crisis, the easier it will be to create total chaos and bring it all down. They think that will allow them to rebuild it, when the reality is, they'll get eaten too and then wonder why it happened.

Totally agree with your assessment. These people want to bring us down, no doubt in my mind. If we sit back and do nothing, they succeed in turning this into a 3rd world dump and the media will place the blame squarely on conservatives.

There's a reason that gun sales are going through the roof. A lot of other people believe the same thing. The good thing for those of us on this right is that we've got the military on our side. I don't think they'd ever turn their guns on American citizens on behalf of a liberal Democrat.

MSNBC

Submitted by HudsonRiverGirl on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 7:04am.

Joan, what does it say about you that someone who incited a riot in Harlem that set Freddie's Dept. Store on fire and left several people burned to death inside.

What does it say about MSNBC that that same low life piece of garbage perpetrated the Tawana Brawley hoax on NY that led to a polilce officer committing suicide and ruined the lives of others falsely accused.

Is that what it takes to get the left high? Just hiring people who call white businessmen 'interlopers'.

Sure seems that way.

True, HRG....the left can't

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 8:25am.

True, HRG....the left can't name a single instance where Rush Limbaugh's comments have led to riots or death (in spite of Bill Clinton's wild and erroneous accusations re OKC).

Don't forget his exhortation that the Jews should "pin back their yarmulkes and get it on" with him, OPENLY inciting violence against them!

But liberals believe in "redemption."  For liberals, anyway.

For conservatives, not so much.

As long as MSNBC is employing Sharpton, they should just shut up about anyone else's sins.

wrong, Joanie. It is "Crackheads for Obama." Listening to Rush is like a breath of fresh air. If you want to silence him, you're going to have to silence all of us and there are a lot of us out here that are sick and tired of the direction this country is being dragged by Duh One and his Band of Merry Socialists. You think if Rush goes off the air that our opinion will change and we'll fall into line with your distorted liberal views? Dream on, woman. If you think that, you've got oatmeal for brains.
