Go figure

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:43am.

I filled up at a Flying J in Coulmbia, SC on Tuesday for 3.39 a gallon. I stopped at a Pilot in Mebane NC on I-40 and I-85 on Wednesday and filled for 3.59 a gallon. When I got home gas was 3.79 a gallon. Granted SC doesn't have the taxes per gallon that NC has but .20 cents difference in my own state? Mebane is 150 miles from here. Go figure.

When Bush was in office the price of gas was his and Cheney's fault. Now that the messiah reigns it is the fault of Wall Street and speculators.Again go figure.

The sad thing is that most Americans don't see through Obama's BS on the price of gas. They are too busy watching the Oscars for American Idol. Jesse Watters, a producer for Fox News proved that when he asked people who the Republican were running for presdient.

I never expected to hear anybody mention Mebane NC here or anywhere else, but I used to live their as a child. I loved it-went to elementary school in Burlington because my Mom taught school there (we moved to Albemarle when I was in the 7th grade). Anyway we had a great house in Mebane with a huge pond and had horses. So many fond memories!

I used to drive a truck and would pick up yarn at Wiscassett Mills in Albermarle. My grandmother's great grandfather, Dave Coble, was known as the patriarch of Stanly County. He had 32 children. I think everybody refers to Haw River and Mebane as Burlington.

Daytona 500

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:52am.

I know that many of you here don't follow NASCAR. The sycophant ass kissing media that covers it is all in the tank for Danica Patrick just like their brothers in the MSM are for Obama. It is sickening. There will be 42 other drivers that take the green flag in today's Nationwide series race and 42 others that will strart tomorrow in the 50. If you didn't know better you'd think that Dancia was all by herself. What really pissed me off with NASCAR was they allowed Danica to get the points from Dave Blaney last year so she would b eguarateed a start in a least 5 races. Dispite that crap Dave Blaney made the 500 on time. He worked hard last season to finish in the top 35 so he would be able to start the first 5 races without worrying abotu qualifing.. NASCAR lets Dancia have them to be politcally correct.

but she held her own quite well in the Shootout and she drove the Nationwide car to the pole. That's not saying another driver couldn't have driven that car to the pole, but her team owner finished behind her in qualifying, as did her Cup team owner, and a whole host of cup regulars. It's not just the equipment, she's obviously got some talent.

Secondly, the transfer of owner's points happens every year. You can bet they didn't come cheap and Tommy Baldwin probably felt the money, engines, technical help, or whatever combination of collateral was offered for those points outweighed a guaranteed starting spot in the first five races of the cup series.

I think we should giver her a chance. And if she needs any personal encouragement, I'm happy to offer mine.

In fact, if there is womens tenning on TV and I'm sitting down, I might check it out - there's quite a few fit, lovely ladies there - although I don't have the slightest idea how they score. gas is going much higher

Submitted by c5then on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:57am.

Two reasons:

1. The refiners are just about able to keep up with demand and that demand is going to start rising.

2. The ethanol subsidy has been ended by Congress but the regulation that requires it's inclusion into our gas at 10% by volume still kicks in starting in May.

I'm not even talking about Iran doing something stupid here. If that happens then we will all be wishing for gas to go back to $5 per gallon.

As far as the impact on the economy is concerned...it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Prices start to rise and people have to cut back on all kinds of stuff just to afford to go to work. The government will of course tell us that it's not inflation it is the evil oil companies.

The "little people" Leona Obama is supposed to represent.

Submitted by drsamherman on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 12:21pm.

About once a month, I join my church's medical outreach program, where several physicians from the archdiocese go out into the smaller catholic churches in the outlying communities of south and west Texas. The Archdiocese of San Antonio is geographically large and there are many smaller communities consisting of a church, bank, grocery store and not much else. We carry the medical mission of Christ to those in need.

I had 17 patients yesterday, and a number of them had friends, acquaintances and family in the US armed forces. There are a number of military families who stay in the area due to its proximity to San Antonio and their relatives to help in child care, etc. While talking to one of my neurology patients, a lovely young wife of an air force enlisted man, the subject of Michelle Obama came up when the young lady said she thought MO was a "fake" and was disgusted that the assistance that was promised to military families in need has not been delivered. She talked seeing MO personally during one of her swings through the military bases in the last few years, and how MO promised a lot but delivered nothing. Like husband, like wife, I suppose. Anyhow, due to her family situation she had to move back to this small town with her two children and ailing mother to try to find work. She was able to find a part time retail job that doesn't pay much, but it is enough for them to get by. She is angry at MO for "breaking her promise" to help military families and she added that she thought all of it was just some kind of big thing to impress people for the election. She was also very angry because she says "Obama thinks we just vote for him because we're hispanic. Like we have to vote for him or else we're bad hispanics. My husband voted for McCain and we had a big fight because I wanted Obama. Now I don't want Obama. I want him to go away!"

After talking and treating this young lady, I could not argue with her point. Seems to me that this young woman's encounter with the bitter half exemplified so much of what the failure known as the Obama presidency has been to so many of the 'little people'--broken promises, excuses, blaming the victim, hobnobbing with the 1%, acting like 18th century French royalty right before the revolution, etc. You lose these people, namely those hispanics who work so hard to provide a better life for themselves and their families and those hispanics who serve their country proudly and whose families make sacrifices for the honor to do so, then you lose the heart of America.

Lasr summer Thunder Thighs

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 5:11pm.

Lasr summer Thunder Thighs and Jill Biteme came to Camp Lejeune and hosted a baby shower for pregnant moms whose husbands were in the Marines/Navy. As it turns out their little photo op didn't go over very well with some wives of military. See, the only ones invited were officers wives. Officers wives can afford to buy many of the gifts that were given out. Enlisted wives struggle most of the time to buy diapers, formula and baby things. Neither one of them is loved by the military around here.

Do you live in a city?

Submitted by CobraMan on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 12:45pm.

Do you live in a city, or in the "country?" Cities are known "heat bubbles," areas with higher than average temperatures. YOU may actually be the one to "blame," thanks to being a valuable heat source to those trees right outside your own window. What you need to do is a "bud count," counting the buds within a city and ones outside the city limits, in the "natural world."

Once you've done that, then you can speculate if it's just the effect of poorly insulated homes that is the problem or if it's a general increase in "global temperatures" that is the problem. If it is the "heat bubble" effect that is to blame, and I think that's what the "problem" is, well, there's a something you, yourself, can do to help mitigate it: stop heating your home! Stop creating a false spring! Stop tricking those trees! They are NOT amused!

KORE today - down at the

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 2:26pm.

KORE today - down at the beach!! Da Killa put new strings on his guitar yesterday, so it is ringing and chiming with a great fresh and lively tone!!! I've come up with about 3 new songs that I can throw at 'da KORE KREW', just to see if we can make them work - and I'm sure that they have something new to try also. We just 'jam', and see how things come out, and we've had some pretty good success.

I surfed two days ago, and the sandbar where the handicapped people go is in pretty good shape, with some small waves, so I hope that they have a successful time in the water today. It's cloudy now, but it's still fairly early, so it might get better as the morning goes along.

I could get into this gas discussion, but, as you know, we've been getting hammered forever over here - as part of the 'cost of living in paradise' sham that we always here about.

Aloha for now,

Killa

I just got back from KORE a

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 10:30pm.

I just got back from KORE a little while ago - it was a good day down there. The weather was calm and kind of overcast, which is OK for a day like this, because I remember the last time we did KORE, it was a blazer!!! And the sandbar has small waves, and it seemed like there were quite a few participants today - kids and adults - and some new ones.

We also had a very interesting ensemble, as it turned out. We had our normal 3 guitarist/singers, and the sax guy who plays with us, but there was a severly handicapped guy sitting next to me who had a box full of harmonicas, and he knew them well enough to keep us with us, which was inspiring, because he only had use of his right hand and arm - sort of!! But his brain was in gear, and he was a pretty cool guy,and we gave him a lot of solos.

Also, some gal showed up with a violin, or fiddle - depending on how to call it, and she did allright on a lot of the numbers - we just had to tell her when to 'back off'...........she's probably not used to 'jamming'. But then this older guy showed up (and I have a LOT of nerve calling anybody 'older'!!!) with an accordian, and he knew his way around the thing, so we managed to integrate that sound into our music. At times, it sounded like the damn German beer halls with the polka, and then he could also play some 'cajun' or 'Looie-anna' type of material too, so we managed to pull a few of those out of the hat too!!

Somehow, on our last number (jeez, I personally played for 3 1/2 hours straight, before I even got out of my chair - I think I was the only one who played EVERY song!!) we tried our version of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' - we tried it once before, last time, and it came out pretty good...................and it managed to segue, after all the verses, into 'You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling'..............and then morphed into that Stevie Miller song about 'the gangster of love' - whatever it's called............and then it transformed into 'Hang on Sloopy'..............and somehow became 'Good Lovin', by the Rascals........and I think it might have finished with 'Twist and Shout', before we reprised a last chorus of 'Lucy'!!! And that took about 15 minutes - almost the whole side of an album!!! Hahahahahaha!!! And that included sax, harmonica, fiddle, and accordian solos!!!

Fortunatly, the cooks down there saved a little food for us, after they had fed all of the participants and volunteers. And there were a lot of beach people just cruising around checking out the scene too. It was a good day..............and I'm pretty beat right now. The surf on the reef was small, so I took a pass..............my neck is still sore from a wipeout I took a few days ago, so I'm chillin' like a villian, and waiting until 6 PM so that I can make a black cherry/vodka drink!!!

I saw various people with cameras and videos - I'm just not sure where these things end up.

Oh - TWO wheelchair bound physically and mentally challenged (an understatement!!) kids were near us today, and they were BOTH boppin' and jivin'!!! I'm happy when I see that!!!

Oh yeah, I was having trouble remembering all of the verses to 'LSD', so I made up this one about our scene down there:

Picture yourself on a beach by the river
With tradewinds and palm trees and tropical skies
All of the people are having a good time
And feeling incredibly high......................

Out on the sandbar they're having some fun
Riding the waves to the shore
Get on your surfboard and jump into one
And you're gone.........................

LSD............................LSD....................LSD...........................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

What scares me the most about this is that it's not in an area I would expect it to be in. I never knew that area to be a muslim enclave.

My husband takes his car to a mechanic who's a muslim. I used to take my kid's cars there for work. About two years I stopped. Right or wrong, I won't pay money to a man who belongs to a religion that has any part of sharia.

And,I don't know as it's a "Muslim enclave", but the judge obviously got elected.  There seems to be some dispute as to whether he's a Muslim, he claims no, that he's a Christian, but in the audio of the court case, he plainly says that he's a Muslim.  He also threatened contempt of court charges for the defendant, after the judge was notified that the proceedings had been recorded.  Seems his level of the court system doesn't record hearings, but the defendant recorded it, obviously good on his part now.

My oldest son and family live in Oklahoma, and you should hear the daughter-in-law, is she P.O.'d about the No Sharia Law  being put on hold by a Federal judge, as are most Oklahomans.  These morons on the benches in this country are lighting a fuse, by taking the people out of the equation and catering to their progressive ideas of what's right and screw the Constitution.

A Dallas County Judge has refused to perform any marriage ceremonies since it is against the law in that state for "same-sex" marriages.   She is Tanya Parker and  is an admitted lesbian.

So, because of her beliefs, she has chosen not to comply with an aspect of her obligations as a civil court Judge.  I am curious as to what will happen to her. Heaven forbid she should be "forced" to do something she does not believe in.

Today the grand marshalls are the mean lesbian Jane Lynch and Kate Upton. Nothing wrong with young Kate. I hope they don't bring Lynch to the booth to talk with her. If the TV and Sirius radio were synconized I could turn off the TV sound. At it is there is about a 30 second delay. Kinda of sick of hearing Darell Waltrip and his stooooopid boggity, boggity. Looks like a lot of rain headed that way. May be tomorrow before they get to run it.

What Dodd's research uncovered from massive education foundations and endowments still operating and influencing today, is chilling. It starts out slow, but stick with it. Parts 2 and 3 begin to draw the portrait.......

Is this a great day, or what?

Submitted by Newsbubba on Sun, 02/26/2012 - 9:11am.

I just got through reading the headlines on Drudge this morning, and thinking how screwed up the world is today!

I have been around a loooooooong time, and I don't ever recall so many things coming apart and flying off the axle so fast as they seem to be right now, except for WWII.

Between the exploding developments all over the Moooooooslem world, the almost complete financial collapse that is looming, the tipping point when over half of the citizens in the only "free country" left on the planet are dependent on government for daily existence, and having a Fascist wannabe dictator in charge of the USA, while his Clydesdale goes on her 50 vacation in 3 three years, I wonder just how the hell we will survive this disaster. Did I mention the almost certain war coming in the Middle East between Israel and the Arab world, backed up by a nuclear powered Persian camel-humper?

Congress has all but abdicated. The MSM has become the official house organ of the White House. The Supreme Court is so loaded with commie "unConstitutionalists" that one more appointment by the RBFSOB and it is officially a rubber stamp, and people sworn to protect and defend the Constitution are openly saying that they should, and will ignore it because it is OUTDATED!!

They overlook one problem (I hope). The US military is sworn to "protect and defend" that same Constitution, so when Congress decides that the oath is no longer "relevant" it will no longer be binding on the professional military forces. They may just decide to straighten things out on their own.

Like I've said before, sometimes getting old ain't so bad. Now off to the gym to stay in fighting shape, or as best I can at this age!

Difference Of Opinion

Submitted by stratman on Sun, 02/26/2012 - 5:36pm.

In an earlier thread, I mentioned Santorum needed to get a clue and use JFK's speech on religion and the Presidency to his benefit.  Seems Santorum has read the JFK religion speech:

Former senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) on Sunday defended a statement he made last October in which he said that he “almost threw up” when he read John F. Kennedy’s 1960 Houston address on the role of religion in public life.

[...]

Later in the interview, Stephanopoulos asked Santorum, “You think you wanted to throw up?”

“Well, yes, absolutely,” Santorum replied. “To say that people of faith have no role in the public square? You bet that makes you throw up. What kind of country do we live that says only people of non-faith can come into the public square and make their case? That makes me throw up.”

Golden opportunity lost.

For a guy who has been in the public spotlight for years, Santorum can behave like a rooky.  Throw up?  Sheesh.  And he misrepresents JFK's speech - that only those of "non-faith" can enter the public square.  No, JFK meant people leaving religion out of the public square, to compartmentalize religion away from decisions that affect all people of different and no faith, not bar those who accept religion into their lives.

Not ready for primetime.  We already have inexperienced ideology in the White House today.  I'd rather have someone who can navigate the land mines and logjams placed by the Left and push forward Conservatism legislation, even imperfectly, instead of someone who presides with best intentions over a stalemate.  Only one candidate has proven themselves capable of wrangling Washington:  Gingrich.

***ADDENDUM***

Just read Santorum took a potshot at Obama that I think again represents his problems with articulating his position:

"President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college - what a snob!" he said to laughter and cheers from the audience. "There are good, decent men and women who work hard every day who aren't taught by some liberal college professor."

I don't recall Obama saying people must go to college or else they won't be good and decent people.  Wasn't it Moochelle Obama, meeting with a group of women at a local day care center, who played the lowered expectations card?

“Don’t go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we’re encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond.”

Not exactly a "be all you can be" speech from MO.  While BO has been a snob on a number of occasions, I don't believe he was with his college comment

I think I get what Santorum means - a good, decent, just life can be had without a college degree - but he inelegantly trips himself again, this time with a hamfisted read meat appeal to the crowd.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Santorum is not a moron.  He is ham-fisted, strident (Laura Ingraham describes it as clenched jaw) and inarticulate at times, all as expressions of his inexperience in getting his points across.

I don't believe Santorum will co-mingle Church and State more than any other President.  He has said he intends to not force Catholicism on Americans, which I take him at his word and by his political record, and nowhere has he intimated a desire to implement a State Religion, a huge reason people came to America in the early days.

Even the Democrat icons FDR and Clinton praised God in public, wishing for His Blessings on America.

Obama is certainly a phony in his intermittent and selective references to religion. Clinton had this stink about him too, though he didn't plumb the depths as much as Obama.

I think Carter meant what he said about religion and I have no reason to suspect FRD wasn't serious when he invoked religion after Pearl Harbor.

Someone needs to make a nicely done spoof of this, using a white person instead of Obama, saying the same things but replacing "African-American" with "white" and send both all over the internet and watch how often someone yells racism over the "white" one, while the other is just fine.

We are so screwed up in this country. Obama can make a video like that, blatant, knowing that someone making a "white" one would get death threats.
