GOP Congressman Tells Chris Matthews 'By Your Standards the New York Times Is a Right-Wing Newspaper'

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Tuesday asked a Mitt Romney supporting Congressman, “Why do you call the Washington Post a liberal newspaper?”

After the Hardball host told his guest, "It’s the most hawkish paper in the country," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fl.) marvelously responded, "By your standards the New York Times is a right-wing newspaper” (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

The segment began with Matthews asking his guest about all the negative ads his candidate is running in Florida.

Diaz-Balart responded, “This is a tough game, and if anybody thinks that this is tough, wait until you run into the close to a billion dollars that Obama is going to be throwing out in all negative campaigning. Remember that already the Obama administration has been called out by the Washington Post - not exactly a right-wing, you know, publication – where they gave it four Pinocchios, the top Pinocchios for their claim that the Republicans were going to destroy Medicare as we know it.”

This led Matthews to ask when the Congressman finished, “Why do you call the Washington Post a liberal newspaper?”

Diaz-Balart replied, “Well, I’m saying it’s clearly not a right-wing newspaper. It’s definitely not a conservative newspaper.”

“Well, it is by my standards,” Matthews responded. “It’s the most hawkish paper in the country.”

“But Chris,” Diaz-Balart shot back, “by your standards the New York Times is a right-wing newspaper.”

“No, no,” said Matthews, “the New York Times is a liberal paper and almost always right.”

Anything else you need to know about what Matthews thinks is conservative or liberal?

Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

If every single even semi conservative person that goes on one of their shows just gets off just one zinger it's more pushback than they have had in years. I'm really starting to see a glimmer of guts here and some major signs that us great unwashed have just about had it.

Expect more "Rubio" types out of south Florida, you've just been introduced to yet another.

And on a VERY SAD NOTE.....the idiot Florida Legislature (controlled by R's!) has just redistricted Allen West OUT....he's going to run in Florida 16, whose incumbent is going to run in a new district. Which will, I suppose, leave me with yet another Little Debbie clone, as Florida 22 has been relegated to a democrat wasteland, once again.

is the most impressive of the new crop of conservatives on the scene--attractive, extremely articulate, and well-situated geographically and demographically as a V-P choice.

I was listening to one of the electoral "experts" this evening speculate on the uphill battle Obama would face against a Romney/Rubio ticket in November. He backed it up with some persuasive data which was difficult to challenge. If the election were today, I would definitely give R&R the edge.

How can anyone waste time

Submitted by Captain Repus on Tue, 01/31/2012 - 7:52pm.

How can anyone waste time watching this arrogant, overbearing left wind political assassin. He is one of the most hate-filled pseudo-intellectual pundits on the most hate-filled political wings of the democrat party (MSDNC).

The saving grace is that when and if Romney becomes president, there will be a 4 or 8 year period in which neither Romney or any of his staff or cabinet will EVER appear on this phony news network.

The Washington Post's Endorsements

Submitted by SMGalbraith on Tue, 01/31/2012 - 8:35pm.

The Washington Post endorsed Barack Obama three years ago for president. And they'll endorse him again this year.

And before that they endorsed John Kerry for president. In 2000 they gave no endorsement between Gore and Bush. But before that they endorsed Clinton twice. And Dukakis. And Mondale. And Carter.

And yet Matthews' thinks the Post is a "the most hawkish paper in the country"?

Chris Matthews is just silly.

MATTHEWS: "Why do you call the Washington Post a liberal newspaper?”

MATTHEWS: "  “Well, it is by my standards, It’s the most hawkish paper in the country.”

The Washington Post isn't even 'most hawkish paper"  in Washington DC.  The conservative paper in town is the Washington Times, but it comes as no surprise that this boob wouldn't read it.

I would challenge Matthews to name the last Republican candidate for Federal, state, or local office that got an endorsement from the Washington Post. I've lived in the northern Virginia suburb of DC since 1993, and I can't recall them ever endorsing a Republican over a Democrat.

Did ol 'Thrills up my pants' Matthews get caught in the rain or something? He looks like someone dragged him to the studio on the bumper of their car.

Matthews is a walking talking disgrace, he's so openly delusional in regards to what's good, what's left or right, it's utterly remarkable he hasn't been fired for being such an embarassment to his liberal overlords at MSNBC.

He's a rambling trainwreck of illogic and delusional rationalizing... he can't ever admit, the right every did a thing right, or a liberal was ever wrong.

a friggin disgrace.

Make sure you save this comment because Matthews will probably call the paper middle-of-the-road and rightwing a dozen times by the end of the year (assuming he hasn't done so already).

I'm glad people like Matthews, Behar, Maher, and every Hollywood celebrity are the main outspoken mouthpieces of the socialist platform. If you think Obama's bad, imagine how bad things would be if that collectivist philosophy found advocates who were actually intelligent?

I love the fact that finally Republicans are holding their interviewers accountable for their own bias. Remember the days when all elite media used to deny their bias?

Even THEY know that dog won't hunt anymore!

Example: Chris says he's an objective journalist. EVERYONE is laughing at that one. Some in public, some in private, if you get my drift!
