Chris Matthews Wants Gingrich in Race Long Time: 'It Will Create Mishegas for the Tea Party'
MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Monday's Hardball comically used a little known Yiddish term to bash Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich.
"I'm rooting for Newt of course to stay in this thing. It will create mishegas for the Tea Party world and a compelling political spectacle for us" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Back to HARDBALL. Now to the "Sideshow." First up: resorting to nursery rhymes. Newt Gingrich may be saying he will carry on in the Republican race until the Republican Convention this summer regardless of how he fares in tomorrow`s primary. Well, that will make for a more exciting spring and summer for us, of course, but it's certainly rattling the world of the Republican establishment.
Here's George F. Will yesterday.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "THIS WEEK")
GEORGE WILL, POLITICAL COMMENTATOR: Time is not Newt Gingrich's friend, because the more time he has, the more he talks, and the more he talks, the more he says things, as he just did here this morning. He said, I would love to be civil, but I'm running against a maniacal liar.
Now, that's pretty strong language. I don't know if you have ever told Longfellow`s nursery rhyme to your 4-year-old daughter, Alice.
JAKE TAPPER, ABC NEWS: No, not yet.
WILL: There is a little girl, who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good, she was very good, indeed, and when she was bad, she was horrid. And we're at the horrid stage with Newt Gingrich.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
MATTHEWS: Well, that's the GOP establishment talking. And I'm rooting for Newt of course to stay in this thing. It will create mishegas for the Tea Party world and a compelling political spectacle for us.
For the Yiddishly-handicapped amongst you - aka goyim - mishegas means craziness or insanity.
That said, this sounded a bit meshugga coming from a Roman Catholic shmendrik that attended Holy Cross.
For those familiar with their Seinfeld, this didn't offend me as a Jew - it offended me as a writer.
So pass me a schtickle of flouride to rinse my mouth out with.
Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

Where was Matthews four years ago?

Rush Limbaugh had a word for what Chris the Wide Mouth Frog is proposing (two words, actually): Operation Chaos.
And MFNBC is the *news* arm of Green-Bee-Cee.

This is completely unrelated, but these two stories concerning Chris Matthews reminded me of Olbermann.
Who? Right. My point.
Whatever happened to Keith "It's dark in my bathtub" the Sports Boy, now that he moved to PC Current TV, where his ratings are within the margin of error.
I propose that NB put a "Keith Watch-Box" at the top of the main page. In it, show the number of elapsed days, hours, minutes that KtSB has not been seen or heard on real television or the real internet. Anyone?
It's about time for some "mishegas" in the GOP!

Good!
If it wakes the GOP up to the fact that they treat their base like redheaded stepchildren whose votes are already counted, more mishegas please!!
I couldn't care less about "party unity" at this point. If the GOP can't right it's own ship, it's time to move on for this Republican.
(PS- I'll vote for Romney if he's the nom, so don't give me any any of that "voting for Obama" crap. But it's high time this schism is settled.)
This guy can't keep his story straight.

It's as if he thinks every day the slate is wiped clean and nobody remembers the other things he has said.
Didn't he just this very morning talk about being unobjective with MKH....?
Now here he is publicly rooting for chaos in the GOP primary just for amusement.
I guess tomorrow he will be telling us again that the has no dog in this fight and he is not sure who to vote for.
What a maroon.

The GOP primary battle may be long and bloody, but the longer it takes, the less predictable the outcome, and hence, the less prepared is Obama's campaign to run against it.
The worst thing for Obama and his lapdog Matthews is a brokered convention where a previously non-participating candidate emerges without the battle scars of the primary season.
I'm not saying that will happen, but it could.
As for the Tea Party, Gingrich is not their guru. None of the Republicans are, despite the claims of Bachmann and others who've proclaimed themselves Tea Partiers. Gingrich can self-destruct (he certainly has the potential) and it wouldn't affect the Tea Partiers one bit.

I am shocked! Shocked to find campaigning going on in Florida.
Alana Goodman is not a Gingrich fan at all. Her stories are slanted against Newt, including cherry picking one nursing home's story to exemplify all the nursing homes' stories. It is risible she would write:
Most every candidate does the exact same thing, both Republican and Democrat. This includes Romney, who has this tiny peccadillo from his past.
What Newt said, albeit inflammatory, was correct per the story from the NY Post. It is even corroborated by Goodman, although Goodman's angle and Gingrich's tweak make for a chasm of difference in opinion. Romney started this muck and he deserves his fair portion of mud.
The real question is whether is was appropriated to veto a bill for $600,000 to subsidize Kosher food for seniors in nursing homes. Everything else is a propaganda war that Ms. Goodman eagerly participates.
You might as well get used to mud-slinging. Obama and Co. are going to be slinging it like it's going out of style. (A more apt simile would be monkeys and their poo, but I'm observant of sensibilities unlike the cracker-spewing flamethrower J Martin.) The Republican candidate must not only be capable of withstanding this coming blitzkrieg but also be prepared to dish it out in

What are you disputing?
Romney, in his capacity as Governor, vetoed a bill that would assist in providing Kosher meals. Regardless of his personal or professional opinion, vetoing the bill meant Jews might go without Kosher meals. They are on their own. The State will not help. Romney will not help Jews to continue eating Kosher meals. Where is the "caring"? There wasn't much.
But here is the rub: The State shouldn't be responsible for private citizen's food, especially anything more than it provides sustenance when it is provided. The State can help or not help. It's a business decision based on finances and public optics.
Personally, I don't think Romney did anything wrong in vetoing the bill, but he isn't inoculated against criticism in identifying he vetoed a bill that may have resulted in Orthodox Jewish constituents eating non-Kosher foods. That's politics. That's life. It's a fair criticism and a fair defense.
Newt got smothered by Romney's big money negative ads, Newt's diminished performances in the two debates prior to the vote, and the failure of Newt to effectively counter Romney's (often dirty) battle plan. The Romney campaign know how to push Newt's buttons. Romney's strength and vulnerability is that he is Disney's most advanced animatronic soulless robot created.
If Romney and Gingrich continue down this path, voters may decide Santorum looks like the adult in the room and boost him in the polls.

Santorum goes after Gingrich in new ad
Santorum sees this:
So Santorum stays in to see if Newt goes the way of the rest of them, thus he can become the last conservative standing. Now only Rmoney the moderate left to contend with, if he (Rmoney) hasn't already sealed the deal.
Check out 2008. It was a battle for the remaining 80% - RINO McCain beats out Huckabee, where Rmoney was at 15% and Paul at 5% in 2008. With better name recognition this time around, they have increased to an average of 20% / 10% in 2012.
So whether it ends up Newt or Santorum against Rmoney, conservatives need to stay the course and eliminate Rmoney one more time. Hopefully the last time.
