Bob Schieffer Asks Michele Bachmann 'Has the Tea Party Made Compromise a Dirty Word?'

By Noel Sheppard | January 29, 2012 | 18:31

Noel Sheppard's picture

Despite Democrats controlling the White House and the Senate, Obama-loving media members love to blame gridlock in Washington on Republicans.

Doing his part Sunday was Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer who asked guest Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), "Has the Tea Party made compromise a dirty word, and is that why Congress can't seem to get anything done?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

SCHIEFFER: But I am interested from all of you, and this thing that Sarah Palin said yesterday about it is the Tea Party versus the Republican establishment, and I am trying to figure out, what is the Republican establishment right now, Congresswoman Bachmann. This is not Mitt Romney's father's party. This is a different party, isn't it?

BACHMANN: The party has changed so much for the better, and I think that is what we are all thrilled about, because the Tea Party has infused the energy and the excitement and really is bringing the Republican Party back to its basic values, which is limited government, cutting spending, being smart and making the government more efficient.

That's what the Tea Party has done. The Tea Party is not about Washington. The Tea Party is a lot more about the Constitution, a limited government, growth and opportunities. And that is exciting, and again, this is a very small day-by-day process that we are looking at. And every day the media is looking for a new story.

But at the end of the day, what we absolutely know, it doesn't matter which wing of the party it is, we are united in purpose that we will make Barack Obama a one-termer.

SCHIEFFER: Well, I want to ask you, though, that is a very interesting take, but has the Tea Party made compromise a dirty word, and is that why Congress can't seem to get anything done?

BACHMANN: Not at all, no. The Tea Party is trying to make sure that we hold on to our core principles and values. The Tea Party has been only a force for good in Washington, D.C., because otherwise we continue to go farther and farther to the left, which is redistribution of wealth. That is why Obama will be a one-termer, because all he has been about is redistribution of wealth and the rise of socialist principles, and the Tea Party rejects that.

Something else to consider is that if the Tea Party is responsible for all the gridlock in Washington, why has it now been more than 1,000 days since the Democrats proposed a budget?

For some reason, this doesn't bother media members supposedly concerned about Congress doing its job.

Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

The attempt here was to smear the Tea Party but Michele now has enough experience and tv savvy to use the question to her advantage.  She was able to defend the Tea Party and push the idea of obama being a one-termer, and do it with a smile.  Bob could not have been pleased.

"has the Tea Party made

Submitted by ThePickle on Sun, 01/29/2012 - 6:59pm.

"has the Tea Party made compromise a dirty word,"

That depends on what definition of "compromise" you are using I suppose. The Liberals in Congress seem to be using the word "compromise" as a verb without object in its dealings with the Conservatives in Congress, in that they want us to "Compromise our Principles and agree with them."

If that is the sense in which the word is used then hell yeah we want it to be a dirty word.

If Schieffer is intimating that the Liberals are willing to come to a "compromise", using the word as a noun, then he is living in a fantasy world, as I have seen not one bit of willingness to come to a "compromise" on just about any subject in the last 3 years.

I support the Tea Party's refusal to compromise and meet in the middle. I don't want to compromise and accept "a little" socialism or "some" government growth. We must stand up for our principles, and if someone wants to say we are being obstructionists, we need to explain, "yes, we are obstructing those that want to trample tbe Constitution".

You're a stinking hypocrite, Bobby

Submitted by Slyrr on Sun, 01/29/2012 - 7:46pm.

Just the other day, ol' Bobby-boy was bemoaning the level of civil discourse and wailing 'We're better than this'.

Why not lead by EXAMPLE, Bobby-boy? Instead, you keep feeding the monster you say you hate. You're perfectly fine with hateful words, lies and slander when it's YOU and you're insulting people you don't like. You just want all the power for yourself - to be able to say anything you want to hurt other people, and force them to sit there and take it. You're really a sad, pathetic man and I'd tell you to look into your soul to see what you're doing wrong. Except you're probably an atheist who doesn't believe in souls.

Why do people even listen to this clown? He looks more and more like a combination between a stroke victim, a floppy muppet, and a zombie with each passing day.

Are liberal democrats keeping his corpse animated solely with taxpayer dollars stolen from our paychecks, and liquid hate?

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Not that I can speak for the above poster...

but from my point of view, negotiation to this administration, means the other side gives in. You know, "elections have consequences" and "but we won".

That's what has given many conservatives a dim view of "negotiation".

I didn't literally mean censoring the word. I meant to imply that "raising taxes" is akin to using one of the many politically incorrect words liberals have for all intents and purposes, had stricken from our language.

btw: order #270 was the order Stalin gave to all his people in WW2 to shoot Germans or be shot. I see it to mean fight or die.

"I just get upset when people suggest words should be 'stricken' from the English language."

Tell, me, mandrake, when was the word "analogy" stricken from your lexicon? It's obvious that it has been, or you would have recognized the poster's analogy immediately. "If this means..." That's called an "analogy," in case you're wondering.

Of course, you're not really interested in any of this, are you? Other than a source of your own amusement, that is.

By the way, how's that search for another source of amusement going for you. Remember, your 9 month time limit is running out, day by day.

How the dummos do it

Submitted by deadeyedan on Sun, 01/29/2012 - 10:36pm.

Here in the august state of Illinois compromise was reached, Democratic style.

For years Rod "Blago" Blagojevich kept on insisting that the state tax the corporations out of the state and the Democratic legislature felt that it would be better to tax the workers in those corporations out of the state.

Along came Blago's impeachment/conviction allowing Pat Quinn to take over as governor. So in order to compromise they decided to tax BOTH the corporations and the workers out of the state - simple.

Obama, Pelosi and Reid compromised on the thoroughly unpopular healthcare bill? Like the way that the leader of the Senate was telling the House --what kind of budget it had better submit to not be "D.O.A."?

How about, "I don't want the people who caused the problem [read as 'I blame'] to do a lot of the talking"? How about "I won"?
