Former SC First Lady Tells Chris Matthews Notion of Racist Voters In Her State 'Stirred Up By the Press'
As NewsBusters reported Tuesday, MSNBC's Chris Matthews accused Republican voters in South Carolina of being racist.
On Thursday's Hardball, former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford told Matthews this depiction of her fellow residents "is absurd and nonsense and frankly just, you know, stirred up by people in the press" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Why do you think people like Newt Gingrich bring up issues like food stamps in these discussions? I haven't heard that phrase in years and all of a sudden it's all over the place with Newt talking about President Obama being the best food stamp president in history and how people are going to, let's take a look at this tape from a Newt Gingrich event yesterday, and I want to get your thoughts on whether race is a factor the way Gingrich is talking in South Carolina. Let's listen.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNKNOWN SPEAKER: I would like to thank you, Mr. Speaker, for putting Mr. Juan Williams in his place the other night. [Applause] His supposed question was totally ludicrous and we support you.
NEWT GINGRICH: Thank you very much.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
MATTHEWS: Why do you think, Mrs. Sanford, that the voters of South Carolina, at least those there that were cheering this comment by this woman, this regular woman that Juan Williams of Fox News should be put in his place?
JENNY SANFORD, FORMER FIRST LADY SOUTH CAROLINA: You know, I think that politicians can be known to pander to certain audiences or segments on certain issues. But so can pundits. And I think that the press likes to make issues sometimes about things where there are no issues. I mean, I for one live on the coast. My congressman is an African-American named Tim Scott, a Republican of whom I'm very proud, and my governor is an Indian-American woman named Nikki Haley of whom I'm also very proud. So those for both people that were elected by the electorate here in South Carolina. So the notion that we have a racial electorate here in South Carolina is absurd and nonsense and frankly just, you know, stirred up by people in the press. And I think that that's, you know, I think that people in general are sick of politics as usual and part of that is they are sick of the press stirring thing ups with an angle. And you know what, I think that woman is right. People should be cheering.
MATTHEWS: Who in the press do you know has ever brought up the issue of food stamps, ever brought up the issue of how as Rick Perry said the other day in that debate on Monday that South Carolina is at war with the federal government as is Texas, bringing up these old states' rights issues. The press doesn't bring them up, the candidates do.
SANFORD: Oh, I think the press brings up all sorts of things. I mean, I think that this race in particular is one as I said that's long on rhetoric and short on substance, long on the sensational if you will. So, you know, we have 24/7 news these days where we have just a proliferation of channels each one seeking to find things that they can sensationalize. So, if you look hard enough at all these candidates, you can find all sorts of things to sensationalize.
One has to wonder if Sanford was directing her comments right at Matthews.
After all, he's been all over the airwaves since Monday's debate in South Carolina crying racism.
If only he'd get the point.
Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

Chris the Wide Mouth Frog has been calling Republicans and conservatives who opposed TARP, Porkulus, Obamacare, etc. racists because, ultimately, they opposed the president, who is half-black. In fact, CTWMF has had a continuous Wiener bulge since the inauguration waiting for an assassination attempt. He's mentioned the danger of racial animus against PBO for 3 years.

did a similar character to Matthews many many years ago. The character's name was Charlie Bratton the Loudmouth. Trying to find a clip of it but so far no success.
Since he's only half black, are we just half racist?.....

Geeze, Chrissy, do you think it's 'all over the place" because people like yourself keep repeating it as often as possible? You and the rest of your MSM buddies repeat something ad nausum and then complain about how often it's being said! You're like the teenager who can't stop cutting themselves and then complains about all the scars! You're psychotic!

That pretty much sums up the definition of racist by the MSM. If you stand against Obama and his policies your are a recsit. Can't seem to find that definition in any dictionary.

On a local Myrtle Beach talk radio show yesterday morning the Conservative pointed out the fact that the media is the main antagonist in the race issue and the Marxist-media male half of the show reluctantly agreed!

needs to tell Chrissy, that after a certain age, looking down while on camera is not a good thing........I'm showing my age, but if anyone remembers the show "Soap", there's an episode where Katherine Hellman gets on her hands and knees on a table to show her sister what a woman's face looks like from that perspective. Chrissy, put a mirror on the floor, assume the position, and look at those jowls darlin', yechhhh.

Take this as a cautionary tale and mind your manners the next time you attempt to roll over a Southern belle. In fact, the lady doesn't have to be Southern when it comes to dealing with Obamabots like you. Most Americans of any stripe are sick and tired of the media agenda and the next time she may not be so gracious. (Come to think of it, certain Alaska belles are pretty good at this as well.)

Perhaps I'm having a Mad Hatter moment, but I wonder how the former FLOSC Jenny Sanford came to be on Prissy Chrissy's show?
Since I don't watch the POS show -- don't give them another viewer for Ad Revenue -- I don't know, but I have a hunch. . .
Remember that the former FLOSC Jenny Sanford's husband -- the disgraced "walking the Appalachian Trail" liar -- was actually diddling his Brazilian newsie instead of being at work.
Prissy Chrissy was prolly all lolly about asking Mrs Sanford for her reaction to Marianne's full-frontal assault on Newt, but, since Prissy Chrissy's favorite FAX to grind is his half-full deck of race cards, he went with his Darn-ole Trump suit. This gave the former FLOSC Jenny Sanford the chance to skewer Prissy Chrissy as seen above.
Prissy Chrissy was too clueless you understand that Mrs Sanford was zinging him in the face, like that "IRONY" clip from this week on The Daily Show.
On a break, they must have told Prissy Chrissy how the former FLOSC Jenny Sanford had made a newsie out of him, and the former FLOSC Jenny Sanford was shown the door before Prissy Chrissy could grill her about cheating husbands.
I don't know if this was what happened, but I can easily imagine it happening this way!

Obama is the President, record numbers of Americans are unemployed and underemployed plus getting food stamps, it's an election year, and Matthews is surprised someone brings this up??
I think he is trying to fool us, but he is only fooling himself.
