SC State Senator Slams Martin Bashir: Rick Perry’s Got a Better Understanding of the World Than Maybe You

A South Carolina State Senator on Tuesday put MSNBC’s Martin Bashir in his rightful place.

As the host attacked Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry’s lack of knowledge about world events, Sen. Larry Grooms (R-S.C.) marvelously replied, “I think he’s got a better understanding than maybe you” (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

As the segment began, Bashir listed various reasons for Perry’s fall in the polls. He then introduced Grooms as a former Perry supporter that is now backing Rick Santorum.

After a brief discussion about Voter ID laws – which Grooms supports and Bashir obviously doesn’t – the Senator voiced his respect for Perry.

This didn’t sit well with Bashir who responded, “And yet, sir, you have now publicly switched allegiances away from Mr. Perry to Rick Santorum. Is this because you finally came to the conclusion of many that Rick Perry lacks an even rudimentary understanding of the world?”

Grooms replied, “Well, I think Rick Perry’s got a pretty good understanding of the world.”

Bashir then rudely interrupted his guest mid-sentence saying, “You do? You think he’s got a good understanding of the Haqqani network in Afghanistan? He has a good understanding of Turkey as being an important member of NATO? You think he has a good understanding of Pakistan?”

Without skipping a beat, Grooms responded, “I think he’s got a better understanding than maybe you.”

My dog has a better grip on the world than Martin.

Not surprised Martin needs glasses. That squint he developed must be from his continuing problem of rectocranial inversion.

I suspect Martin's

I suspect Martin's world view has already expanded as a result of Sen. Grooms shoving a great big dose of reality up the Marxist-media host's rectum!

Understanding?

Submitted by Newsbubba on Tue, 01/17/2012 - 5:33pm.

Martin's "understanding" seems to be limited to the Islamo-fascist corners of the world.

Too bad he doesn't see the USA as part of the "world" and get a clue about it.

That would severely limit his line of questioning, wouldn't it?

I would have loved to have seen what Bashir had to say after that.

Perry seems to know

• Prime Minister Erdoğan endorsed an Al Qaeda financier.

• Turkey also helped supply Al Qaeda in Iraq.

• Erdoğan had repeatedly embraced Hamas and acted to supply it.

• Under Erdoğan’s watch, the murder rate of women in Turkey has increased 1,400 percent.

• Under Turkey’s Islamist government, press freedom has plummeted.

Bashir seems totally clueless.

Just wow

I know Newsbusters has posted segments with Bashir before. But I've never really watched one. However, watching this one showed me how outrageously out to get Conservatives is. It's okay to disagree with a guest. But what this a-hole did was clearly try to put words in his mouth and slander the Governor of the most productive state in the Union.

Granted, it's MSNBC, so I suppose I shouldn't expect better. But that was disgusting even by liberal standards (assuming there are any).

Mr. Bashir himself is

Submitted by big.league.slider on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 2:16am.

Mr. Bashir himself is clueless about Rick Perry. During his USAF service, Rick Perry flew numerous humanitarian relief missions in west Africa, and likely got to know those peoples first hand.

Hay, Bashir

"You think he’s got a good understanding of the Haqqani network in Afghanistan? He has a good understanding of Turkey as being an important member of NATO? You think he has a good understanding of Pakistan?"

Hay, Bashir, as a State Governor, Perry actually sat in on briefings about these very subjects, just as Bill Clinton, as a State Governor, did years before. ALL governors receive weekly briefings directly from our federal intelligence services, just as they have since Reagan took office as President, at the very least. The number, and subject matter, of those briefings increased after 9/11, as a consequence of the Congressional investigation and recommendations. Where were you when Perry was receiving those briefings? Oh, that's right, you were still trying to immigrate to America.

I'm glad to see little by little, these media types getting slapped down in public, on an increasing basis.
