Stephen Colbert Calls Stephanopoulos 'A Political Operative,' Gets Twice the Airtime as Perry

ABC's George Stephanopoulos on Sunday proved once and for all what a joke he is.

Not only did the This Week host give twice the airtime to faux political candidate Stephen Colbert as Texas governor Rick Perry, he did so after the Comedy Central star called him "a political operative" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS, HOST: And here now for an exclusive interview, the latest candidate. Comedian Stephen Colbert rocked the political world this Thursday.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

STEPHEN COLBERT: I'm forming an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my possible candidacy for the president of the United States of South Carolina. I'm doing it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

STEPHANOPOULOS: Mr. Colbert, welcome to This Week. Down in South Carolina, your campaign seemed to hit a brick wall right out of the gate--

COLBERT: Excuse me, I don't have a campaign, George. I don't mean to correct you. I have an exploratory campaign.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Exploratory--

COLBERT: Finding out whether there's a hunger for a Stephen Colbert campaign right now. Don't force me into a campaign yet. I realize you're a political operative, but there are stages to this, George.

No better support for Colbert's accusation - albeit likely a joke - was that Stephanopoulos actually devoted about ten and a half minutes - almost one quarter of the show! - talking to a liberal comedian impersonating a Republican candidate.

By contrast, an actual candidate for president, Texas governor Rick Perry, was given less than five minutes to express what he would really do for the nation if elected.

How could anyone ever take Stephanopoulos seriously after this?

Who takes Stephanopolous seriously anyway?

Sometimes even liberal comedians can accidently tell the truth.

Or . . before this, for that matter.

George's Book

Submitted by Walker01049 on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 5:12pm.

I bought Stephanopoulos's book a few years ago. Couldn't get through the B.S. about 1/3 of the way through. I just threw it in the garbage. It belongs in a landfill, not my bookcase! Who can stand to watch this ass on T.V.?

Colbert's appearance on This Week . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 5:24pm.

. . . is emblematic of why I don't watch the program anymore. Stephanopoulus was bad enough; Amanpour made it worse; and now Stephanopoulus is back with comic guests. Maybe This Week us trying to blend in a little GMA format, and since little Georgie now has experience in both shows, he can blaze that disastrous trail.

The show hasn't been any good since Brinkley's departure in 1996.

George is ready.

Submitted by Thalpy on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 5:33pm.

When we begin to see Bill Clinton's infomercials for ED: Cialis, Viagra or Levitra, Stephanopoulos will emerge from his retirement as Mrs. Clinton's Cleaner and it will be once again time for George to "handle" Bill's women for Hillary. For years now George has been posing as an objective political analyst for ABC while always waiting in the wings to perform his real job: cleaning duties for the Clinton family.

Of course he's a political operative!!

Submitted by motherbelt on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 6:07pm.

Giving him a TV show doesn't make him a journalist, any more than giving him a restaurant would make him a chef!

The real deal is...

Submitted by almostacowboy on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 6:11pm.

that in the progressive mind being called a "political operative" by another prog/lib is the same as a black man referring to one of his black friends using the "n" word. It's a term of endearment.

Submitted by xfast on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 6:45pm.

Perry got less than 1% of the vote in New Hampshire to throw all of his campaign efforts into South Carolina. He's polling around 5%. He's lucky anybody wants to interview him at all now. He just can't keep his foot out of his mouth long enough to build any support.

They're both political operatives. Colbert poses as a comedian and Clintonopolous poses as a journalist.
